The character as Goering is a perfect fit.
Very true
I was looking in the comments for that. The actor is a real doppelgänger of the real Goering.

I’m sorry sir! No one passes until I have authorization.
You'd think these guys constantly checking their watches and looking in the direction of the meeting place wouldn't be a great idea.
The actor playing Theodor Morell, Hitler's doctor, certainly looks like the actual person.
Morell was also drugging Hitler up with all kinds of powerful cocktails lol
Low-key That guy acting Goering diffenetly looks like the same person

This has something that the Tom Cruise version of this story did not have-PEOPLE WITH ACTUAL GERMAN ACCENTS SPEAKING ACTUAL GERMAN. Yeah, I know; Wow!
This is a QUALITY Production.
True!
I feel this inner need to watch this daily because it's one of the biggest laugh riots ever! A real treat.
Although portrayals of Hitler apart from Granz are good, I feel that the reason why Granz's stands out is because his portrayal was not one dimensional: it didn't present Hitler as a ranting, cynical dictator that everyone feared. It portrayed him not just as a dictator but also as a human being who despite his rants, would have spells of calmness and peace and was admired by people, instead of being feared (he was feared...but only by those who disobeyed him or betrayed him) He would also laugh, cater to the needs of his close ones and take care of those loyal to him. This human side of Hitler is absent in all other portrayals.
Ruwail Ali Ganz
Agreed
Haven't seen the Granz piece, but even his enemies would tell you, that in the right mood, Hitler could be quite charming.
Apparently, after 7/20/44, this became less frequent, and as the Russians were coming into Germany, even less frequent still. But even to the end, on occasion, he could seem like a harmless 56 year old man, at times.
Just in case somebody reads this and misunderstands, I am not, nor do I think Mr Ali is, defending Hitler. One of history's worse villains.
Agreed 👍👍👍
A world War 1 hero...still being bombed in assassination plots.
God damn that table leg
German engineering the best.
I would say was fate cuz perhaps if hitler would have died that day someone smarter that him could have made better choices to lead the troops .
If the original stone-walled venue for the meeting had still been used instead of the late change to a wooden hut, the explosion would’ve killed all inside. As it happened, the weaker wooden walls blew out, dispersing the force. Amazing how many attempts on his life Hitler managed to evade over the years.
Not a "leg" it was a heavy oak table with thick rectangular supports. That is why the blast was deflected.
In 1968, when we were ten, my friend and i got caught shoplifting at TG&Y. Something called Bachmann Mini-Planes. We were taken into the office and told to call our parents. My friend went first and told his Mom. I went second, and pulled the Checkpoint One scam. But it all went bad later when my buddy`s Mom called my Mom...

Anthony Hopkins did a great portrayal in 1981's The Bunker. He and Glanz have been the best I have seen so far. Appearance wise they are closer to AH as well.
I thought the HOPKINS Bunker film was very amateurish, as was this film. Bruno GANZ in 'Downfall' gave the best HITLER performance I have seen of any.

I watched a DVD Movie "Valkarie" awhile ago about this incident. More detail is in the DVD regarding the events that took place staring Tom Cruise.
On the third barrier officer was adamant. Staffenbarg called Hoffer,an officer he flattered and cultivated in Rastenburg and lied-General Fromm is waiting for me at the airport. Tell the man to let me through. The order was given .
These high ranked leaders which ,casually, sentenced their loyal German troops to a massacre ,with nary a thought, actually shuddered in abject fear of their own ,individual, deaths.
Shaking in their own cowardly selves.
Not cowards, many were in the army as career officers, or had served in WWI.
The first series ( Winds of War) was shortest but way better than next series
Nothing more infuriating than seeing Hitler stagger out of that bunker, still alive…
ScorpioBornIn69, the mini-series was 12 parts.
Two things about this attempt have always intrigued me. First, von Stauffenberg only had enough time to arm one of the explosive charges he and Werner von Haeften were carrying. Had both of them been armed I wonder if it would have been enough given the meeting had been moved from the bunker to another location. Second, even if only the one had gone off, had it been placed closer to Hitler, would that one explosive definitely had killed him?
The funny thing is, Stauffenberg could have place both charges and just arm the one of them; the detonation of the armed one would have caused the unarmed one to have detonated as well. Additionally, the meeting was going to be held within one of the concrete buildings of the complex before being moved to a wooden cabin; had it been held in the concrete building, the explosion would have been reflected off the walls and been even more deadly.
@@MrThischarmingman2 Simple answer is we dont know. Hitler had a great deal of luck and avoided many attempts against him.. he also was careful not go out in public much in latter years and to change his plans frequently... One of the soldiers at hte meeting also moved the case because it was in his way and put it further away from Hitler
@@MrThischarmingman2 the type of explosives used in the attempt required a detonator cap which is why the used the British Time Pencil, negating the need to have a manual detonator. Simply having the other charge in his bag when the first one detonated would not have set off the other. The original plans were designed with the meeting taking place in a concrete bunker, as it had on a previous visit to Wolf's Lair. With no windows, the explosion would have been contained and the combination of overpressure and shrapnel would have done the job. Unfortunately when Stauffenberg exited the room to take the phony phone call, another staffer took his place and placed the briefcase behind one of the heavy legs of the conference table. This absorbed much of the blast effect.
@@jeffburnham6611 I didn't know that about the explosives. Interesting.
You have to wonder though. Did he arm the 2nd bomb? I would think he did. Reason being what if the first one was a dud, the plan would have evaporated immediately. You have a backup bomb. There was already one instance where one bomb failed to detonate on a plane carrying Hitler. I seriously doubt he didn't know of the failed bomb. My guess is, like MrThischarmingman2 said, perhaps the first explosion knocked the detonator from the 2nd bomb. But that also begs the question, why didn't the blast detonate the 2nd bomb. You only have a couple of millimeters of plastic separating c4(or whatever the plastic explosives were) from making one big brick of explosives. History's mysteries are fascinating to think about.
Hugo Boss is credited for the SS uniforms

I just came by this in my suggestions. I’m sorry, but I feel like the actor of Stauffenburg is too loud after the blast, he just said what he said around some people who could’ve heard him, and in the car they’re whispering lightly enough where the damn driver could hear. Did Hitler even know it was Stauffenburg...?
a missed opportunity , a most daring act of honuour , and a courageous resolve by one man to eliminate a bastard, and save Germany. Stauffenberg the hero , and martyr to freedom, but only to fall into unexpected fate. What an irony to what many had hoped to take place , at the Ukraine or Prussia headquarters.
He is an idiot. If he really cared he would have sacrifice himself and see that the bomb was in the right place and not moved. But he escaped like a little girl.

The plot was flawed because of the absence of a super dedicated bomber who is willing to sacrifice himself to ensure that their mission is accomplished. Because of the failure, the plotters entire leadership were decimated and more people died due to the prolongation of Hitler's tyranny.
Yeah. At these times, believing in virgins in paradise would be a game changer.

There should be a remake of WINDS OF WAR and WAR AND REMEMBRANCE.
I don't think Hollywood today is capable of equalling the flawed versions we already have.
@@wtk6069 A mini-series on this monumental scope would be too expensive to make today. Did you ever see the 1990 TV movie THE PLOT TO KILL HITLER?
2:22 and 2:27, Stauffenberg addresses the officer in charge of the barrier as "Leutnant", which was wrong in two ways.
First, going by the on-screen uniform, the man's rank was Obersturmführer.
Second, the rank "Leutnant" did not even exist in the SS (which the man was in). The SS, SA, and other Nazi Party military and paramilitary organizations had a rank system that was totally different in its nomenclature from the ranks in the traditional German military armed services.
Now, Obersturmführer is the SS equivalent of a First Lieutenant in the US Army, or in the Heer (German Army), Oberleutnant. The equivalent rank in the SS to Leutnant (Second Lieutenant) in the Heer is Untersturmführer. Maybe Stauffenberg was understating the man's rank to bully him, or to make a political (anti Nazi) statement.
Or maybe in the German military an Oberleutnant is called "Leutnant' the same way that a First Lieutenant is called "Lieutenant" in the US Army - the preceding qualifier is dropped for speed.
Even if that were true, by addressing him with a rank used in the traditional Army, rather than the more correct (in this case) rank used in the SS, it's still possible Stauffenberg was rejecting the Nazi Party rank system.
But then at 3:56, Stauffenberg addresses the man in charge of the 3rd checkpoint with the correct SS rank of Scharführer, the equivalent of Sergeant in the US Army or Unteroffizier in the German Army.
This inconsistency doesn't make much sense. At the first checkpoint, Stauffenberg uses Army rather than SS rank nomenclature in addressing the officer in charge, and arguably uses the wrong Army equivalent rank on top of that. This time around, he uses SS rank, and the correct one.
