Went for a driver fitting yesterday. Tried Ping, Cobra and TaylorMade but the best was the Callaway Ai Smoke - I was getting at least 20 yards more than my current driver (TaylorMade Stealth Plus). So bit the bullet and ordered it.
@@hcopenhagenh I am cynical. I think a person could go to 5 different fittings and be recommended 5 different shafts. I think the recommended brand would be of a preferred vendor of the fitter. They may have 150 different shafts, but I would guess they overwhelmingly steer people towards a select few.
@@Chris54321 It isn't about recommendations for high speed guys. It is about numbers and feel. They know what they like. They will be $350.00 for what they like from any manufacturer. We are talking about a 5 handicap that thinks they are good but sucks.

Idk, I have the same driver for the last six years, (that im still happy with).. went for a fitting last week to make sure i wasn't losing out on the newest bestest driver that could add 20 more yards to my drive..... NOT ONE.. not even one could add more noticeable distinct. A few went an extra 3/4 years here or there but nothing absolutely nothing has passed be by in driver improvement over the last six years.

But that's for the % of golfers that are delivering a straight face to ball path, the forgiveness will help, if you are hitting it high/low heel/toe with a straight face to path. What they can't fix is a bad open/closed face. So high handicap players with a bad swing will not benefit one bit. In saying that if you have a favourite tuber that reviews drivers, check the latest Callaway/taylormade/ping they are reviewing then go check them out with the same brand of driver from 4/5 years ago.. I bet you won't see much (if any) difference in side spins drop.
I agree. No matter what driver I have, I'm scoring with my wedge and putter. When I quite trying to hit my driver super long my scores went down. I have buddy's that bomb it past me, but they can't beat me. Just saying.

@@peace_in_golf I will say I prefer Version 2 Kirkland Golf Balls over the new version. New ones feel like Rocks when you hit them. I have tried them over last 3 months and have noticed just don't hit them as well. Love there Wedges..
Never really got on with Cobra drivers but over the years they have delivered really pretty drivers, this year they have excelled themselves, definitely for me the prettiest driver out there
I got the Cobra with Ventus and Callaway Smoke with Ventus, Cobra is killing it. I think its just a feel thing for each golfer, I had Paradym last year and this Cobra is killing it as well, same shaft in all of them, distance and dispersion is better. I will keep last year Callaway though just in case LOL
It is totally dependent on the player and the shaft. Most importantly is the player's swing, when does the player load/unload the shaft? Also, one manufacturer's "stiff" or even "x-stiff" may have a cpm within a couple of cycles of another manufacturer's regular shaft cpm. @SoapyD @@homeofinventions
I agree it depends on the player. I’m in that 90 to 95 mph range. But I find more fairways and can square the face better with my stiff shaft. When I play with a reg shaft I get a few extra yards but my dispersion rate is not as good.
Sounds like that new Taylor Made Driver is making some Noise and the New Ping Driver is getting very good reviews. But they are all over Priced at almost $600 for Single Club.

I am 77 years old and shoot my age, but like Short Gamer, I cheat a little too, using a custom Fuji Velocore R flex that will deliver my Ping Max G430 driver while using the Maxifli Tour X CG an easy 235 down the middle up here on average... I live in the Southern Rockies near Santa Fe, NM. Where we play year-round,,, With winter roll, can get near 250 here at my 6000' altitude...Life is Good for grumpy old men if they are using a forgiving driver. PS I machined the standard weight down 4 grams to get a lighter swing wt. Now if I just had a forgiving wife?
The best driver by far is last year's model selling at the discount store for half the price of this year's model.

The best driver is a driver that always hits the ball in the middle of the fairway. Unfortunately, that driver will NEVER be available.
350 dollars for a driver shaft is wild. I'm not saying it's good or bad.......just wild.
For high swing speeds that is the norm.
Just upgrade your shaft to whatever head you have

That was the 10k. He just said the wrong name. You can tell because of the line on the head and no movable weight. The sign behind him says 10k

I tried them all today and I’m keeping my TSR 3. Nothing felt as good off the face.
Nothing is as forgiving while maintaining performance that I've seen with tsr3 and tsr2
