you could put a big paddle wheel in the midle of the ship. you could put a protective structure over it and radar on top . typical battleship shape . turrets in front and back . boy this could be a gimmick for a custom faction.
Weirdly, I don't hate that idea, because the superstructure could hide the wheel. Putting it in the middle would also avoid the problem Borderwise is having here with pitch control.
Add some side-mount exhausts and you've got a rat rod boat!
It’s him!
@@8cto289 it's him?
Wow, Hi Patch! I didn't know you played FtD!
Watching that paddle wheel eat resources was maddening but funny
Man, this reminds me of a long time ago when I tried making a paddleboat. This was before these articulated paddles - I haven't played in a long time, just watch your videos from time to time.
Anyway, I was doing some experiments trying to get the thing to go at a decent speed. At one point the paddles lifted the whole craft out of the water, flipped it over backwards, and sped off running on the surface of the water at like 120m/s. Then it hit land and just flew apart. Was the funniest thing I've ever seen in this game.
Spin blocks are absolutely broken and always have been. Love them things
I made a compact version too, basically a spinblock on a spinblock to keep the paddles horizontal and push the ship. It can outperform steam props...
Ahahahaha
Now I want to see the Crossbones get overclocked
now picturing giant spider/crab ship, called the sea strider basically walking on water with paddle feet and eldritch intent thanks to drag/lift.
2:17 me when a ship I worked on for a whole day capsizes.
Loved the video @Borderwise! Can't wait for the next video man! The Dreadnought Hulls with the Water Wheel might be a Good Idea for a Custom Faction. You could have up to 4 Small 3 by 3 Water Wheels moving the Ships around while the Citadel to Protect all the Vital Areas beneath the Waterline is made of Alloy to save on weight.... Maybe the Faction could be Named the Steam Slayers, the Water Wheel Guards or something to do with Steam Engines and/or Water Wheels. The Faction that Focuses mainly on Naval Warfare with a Pretty Radiply Developing Aircraft Carrier Fleet with the First Two Carriers having been Converted from Battlecruisers from a War before the Player Joined the World like the American Lexington-class Aircraft Carriers and their More Modern Design at the Start of the Custom Campaign are Carrier Designs like the American Yorktown-class Aircraft Carriers and an Air Group Size of 18 Fighters, 18 Dive Bombers and 12 Torpedo Bombers like the Sunday Punch Idea. Aside from that they have a Decent Battleship, Heavy and Light Cruiser and Destroyer Fleet to Support even Amphibious Operations by the Amphitazwa Alliance that you're Working on. And We can't forget the Supply Ships or Transport Ships or even the Fleet Tankers!
In theory, in order to squeeze the maximum out of the paddle wheel, you need to cut out the middle, leave the ring, and place this ring on the ship in such a way that the lowest part is in the water.
With normal paddles you can make “paddlefoils”, by putting water wheels on each point of the ship, they lift it out of the water at very high speeds, it’s pretty fun
Hmmmm... a paddle-based battleship sounds like a great idea. Arm it with PACs if you make one 👌
11:57 wonder if you could make an arm that swivels down towards the water to counteract the force lifting the nose, kinda like the rear swing-arm on a moped. Keep the nose down while keeping the paddlewheel the optimal 50% in the water by pushing the wheel down as the nose lifts up. Kinda like a rear swing-arm on a moped.
Add spikes on the bottom and on the wheel itself and ram smaller ships as you push them into water
Kinda like the submarine with sawblade in middle, but upside-down
Need to modify a Marauder and make Speedboat Marauder.
You should make a Cram brawler with a juiced up paddle wheel as propulsion. Get in close quickly and blast them at a range where Crams cant really be dodged, while running circles around them 💥.
Should have turned that ship around, put the wheel all the way to the front and covered it in spikes. Propulsion and a weapon!
That... might actually work! I tried something like that a couple years ago and it didn't go very well because I was trying to make the classic wide paddlewheel. Borderwise's skinny one could be more effective. I'd probably install a turning prop to keep the wheel moving back and forth for maximum destruction. I'm going to go try this now.
I like the encased wheel idea. You could make an amphibious vehicle that has 4 encased wheels that work on land and while floating.
I bet you could make a water skimming drag car with this. Just make the ship look like a car and give it two paddle wheels in the shape of tires.
Still remember the update when spin blocks got motor drive.
They forgot to limit it on the DWG craft and the Marauder would nyoom around at like 40m/s~
Still works if you load one in and crank up the setting.
Oh yes, I think I remember that. Good times. 😊
It's fine, it's behaving just like a boat getting on the plane... mind you those boats are usually much smaller.
Paddle boat campaign when? Lol
Another great science video. Speaking of unconventional movement types, I wish we had waterjet propulsion.
Also have you tried a small cram-mortar jet bomber? Two to four mortar would be cool.
time to make an encased paddle based battleship
remind me to make a paddle powered hydrofoil PT boat
Should put one of those on the front and name it after that prehistoric shark forget the name
How well does this propulsion work with small diameter wheels? Depending on size there could be a couple dozens wheels. Which would help with Redundancy. If you make them out of rubber you could also drive on land.
The main thing is that they have to be big enough that the top half of the wheel is out of the water at any given time. Aside from that, it can be as small as you like!
Wait what?paddle boats!
damnit now i have to build one using this idea
Could you put the paddle wheels on the side and make the side of the wheel facing the enemy armoured? I wonder how fast you could make it go
Hey man love the videos, was struggling with the Leviathan in WF can you make a most wanted on it?
nothing to see here, just a warship going as fast as a bugatti
So hear me out... paddle wheel on the front and cover it in rams
What if you attached hydrofoils to keep the hull in the water
drag would severely slow it
Did you see that the devs are gonna add missions to adventure modes??
Yup... the people who like adventure mode must be thrilled by that. 😛
Can you put Spinnblocks on spinblocks?
tbh, this kind of cheese is why i really want to see spin blocks reworked to require engine power by default, relative to the desired speed and total weight on the spin block
First :)
2:25 boat- “please… kill… me…”
Put it on the front and tip it with a bunch of melee weapons to get a buzzsaw.
Last ship reminds of Ironclads and converted river-barges of the American Civil War.
