As a one person film crew, I am always looking for new gadgets to film my adventures. The DJI Mavic 3 is proving to be that equipment, despite all the hate on the internet. (Do check out our Report on the Mavic 3) This ActiveTrack 5.0 may end up redeeming the bad reputation of the Mavic 3.
The previous version of ActiveTrack was quite rubbish, but this New Activetrack and Obstacle Avoidance is much smarter and is a lot more capable of piloting the Mavic 3 to shoot cinematic tracking shots, while avoiding "MOST" obstacles. 🤞
However, I don't think the Obstacle Avoidance is bulletproof, because it took us Humans at least a few years as babies to learn what we can or cannot walk through. Things like mirrors, glass and fine objects can still fool the Obstacle Avoidance, and sometimes us humans. And like I said in the film, I doubt that DJI had put a processor strong enough to deal with all the image processing, object identification and machine learning to make the Mavic 3 a flying camera that can autopilot and evovle.
So... it's best you take it to Wide Open Area and still Fly with Care, and if you're worried if it will hit the odd object here and there, Obstacle Avoidance has got you covered. Maybe 80% of the time?!?! Otherwise there is always DJI Care Refresh....

Really enjoyed this video, subscribed! Greetings from Papua New Guinea! 👋
Hello PNG!! Welcome to the channel. 🙏 We hope we can continue to keep your subscription.
I got the Mavic 3 for its amazing imaging capabilities! The biggest bonus is that it comes with great obstacle avoidance and active track feature!
Agreed. It’s pretty awesome when we took it to the Motocross track. How is your experience with ActiveTrack 5.0 like? Do you fully trust it?
Nicely tested. Right now active track has some bugs. and it works 50%. DJI said they will improve it in the next firmware and it will be fixed and improved another 50% and make it faster
Thanks for tuning in. I do share your optimism and hope DJI will do the right thing for the Mavic 3. Can't wait till the next update. 🤞
That's a Sick Video!
Glad you liked it!
great video !
Thanks for tuning in. Glad you enjoyed it and a Happy New Year to you. 🥳🥳🥳
That’s sick
Awesome tracking features! It needs improvement, but the technology in there is impressive already!
Yup, it’s pretty spectacular. I am just glad that it dodged a few obstacles without me knowing. 😅 hopefully they release a new firmware update soon.
Funny how my f drone has stereoscopic vision...but not me (I'm stereoscopic blind)
It is very sad that Active Track can not be used to track a steam train. There are more big vehicles than cars only.
I have both drones: A Mavic 2 Zoom and a Mavic 3.
And all i can say at the time beeing, tracking and obstacle avoidance works better on my Mavic 2 (
Thanks for tuning in and sharing your thoughts. Hopefully there’s more room for improvement in the M3. I really hate it if they make us buy a Mavic3S in the next 6 months.
where did you get that mickey hat ,? is so cool ...
will active track work with the new cruise control?
Thx for the great video and perspective. You have good sense of humor. I’m looking for drone to use in Moto Vlog. Which do you recommend Mavic 3 or Skydio 2+ for this purpose? Active track 5.0 has me a little nervous.
In America, where they sell Skydio... definitely go with the Skydio. But as i have tried to illustrate in the video, but failed... a lot of the Stereoscopic vision relies on the CPU and AI recognising what is an object. And when CPU run out of processing power, because they can't just do spatial recognition, because they still need to stabilise the drone, and other stuff... both drones can still get very confused.
nice vid thanks
What a great, explanatory video. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
We are able to take photos when active tracking is on?
Yes.
dual processor would solve the issue
More cores, More Memory and make it smaller and cheaper! - Yea Greedy humans right? 😏
Skydio 2 is so much better at tracking :)
I agree. I wish some one would hook me up with one. They don’t seem to supply it here in Australia. Which country are you from? And how did you get one? (If you don’t mind me asking)
@@JeremyToh Europe neither :(
thank you. very good
Thank you for watching. 🙏
Hey Jeremy nice video on AT man. I have a question, how did you setup RTH when you tracked the car with AT? If the drone lost connection will it try to go back where you started? Will it hover? or did you setup dynamic RTH?
Thanks for tuning in. When you go in to the settings in your RC during the flight, under the "Safety" Tab, scroll down to the bottom and select "Advance Safety Settings". From there in the Signal Lost section, you get to choose if you want to have the drone RTH, Descend or just Hover. So if you're launching from a boat, we would recommend that you select Hover. That way if you lost connection, the drone will just hover in place until you make connection. Hope that helps.
@@JeremyToh thank you man. Appreciate you taking the time to get back to me.
I like your video formats, informative, scientific, but very entertaining.
Glad you enjoy it! Thanks for tuning in.
Cool!!! Looking forward to more Mavic 3 upgrades in the coming firmware updates.
Bring on the new Firmware Updates! @DJI
@@JeremyToh haha! I think everyone wants to have the update soon!
