Dustin, Aloha!!!!....great review. I do love the VTOL aspect of this drone but gosh it really needs a MUCH better built in camera with image stabilization.... especially at the $1100+ base price. I wouldn't consider this at that price until they include a better native camera. Parrot's camera was awesome for many of the reasons you referenced in the video (ability to pan up and down (and sideways (with mod), great stabilization, etc.)..How is it that no one has been able to duplicate what Parrot did with that camera (what...5+ years ago). I wonder if it's possible to mod this to use 4G/5G as the control signal and FPV feed like they did with the Parrot Disco. I'd like 4G as an option for really long range cruising...The 3-5km (with NO obstacles) spec'd range just isn't far enough for my needs. I'm guessing that this is a closed source OS and it won't be possible to do the 4G/5G mod...but I hope someone proves me wrong. I look forward to seeing many more videos of this bird. Aloha.

Interesting flight. Change your VTOL altitude settings so they are less than 30 meters and you will not use as much power changing modes. At 2.4 miles it has plenty of range and seems to handle 15 mph winds with no problem. Nice aircraft and flight demo Dustin as always. Thanks for the demonstration.
I just received one of these from HEQ and it does not meet the time nor the distance specs. It only flies in airplane mode for approximately 18 minutes before it goes into emergency battery voltage mode and forces a landing into trees or whatever happens to be under it and you cannot take control of it once it goes into this mode. It does this with both new batteries even though they fully charge to 17.1V. And this is with only using a very small amount of the battery to quickly climb vertically in copter mode and then switching to airplane mode for the rest of the flight. It is also in very calm and ideal conditions so it should fly for the full 60 minutes which they advertise. The other problem is that the DJI FPV system that mine came with does not work further than about 200 meters or 600 feet before it begins pixelating and then around 700 feet completely goes blank even in clear, line-of-sight conditions. I'm way out in the country away from all 5.8GHz interference so there's something wrong with the DJI Air Unit or the DJI Goggles. This combo cost $2,060 (incl shipping) so I'm terribly disappointed in it. I'm currently waiting to hear back from HEQ to see what they'll do to remedy the problems.

That units could be unified, but you're right, you could see your feet in the next update. Interesting drone, I think even DJI could do a V-tol. And You don't need wings, you can do a gyroplane just moving the rear rotors to the center and angle the front rotors 90degrees to the front. It could do cruising more efficient and quicker. Thanks for review, Have a nice day.
Hey Dustin, the little white icon on Mini 2 that shows where you are in relation to the drone (bottom center of the controller) the one that looks like a radar, is not working... Do you know something that I can try to get it working again?
Great fun video as usual Dustin. If this drone sells in volume, which it should, perhaps the developers will integrate a 4K camera in the next version. Maybe because of the wide range of movement this drone has to be capable of, a gimballed camera might suffer. Even just being able to move a camera left right up and down would be enough. The range capability looks great but might be constrained by the wireless limitations. Dustin’s upcoming range test will show what it can do.
Why should it? I don't think it'll sell well at all. It's heavily overpriced for what it is and many other cheaper things do everything it can do but better. The only real thing it has going for it is its unique design.
@@flightevolution8132 There are several different models of this drone, one is made for mapping with a camera on the belly and another model has a 3 axis gimbal camera. They have already sold 82, 714 units as of 12/09.

Can you show us the apps that come on controller? How's the screen brightness for viewing? Is there an included app for mission planning on the controller?
@@DustinDunnill Mission planning with autonomous capacity are requiring much more developpement (taking wind drift into account to adjust bearing... etc.) and a very complex flight controller.
That would be so cool and I hope they make one. I’m sure they’ve considered it, but I imagine the market for plane photography is much smaller than drone photography.
Please, no! We don't want another aircraft that's unable to take off just because DJI marked the zone you live in as a no-fly one, even if there are no apparent reasons to do such, even if flying a drone is 100% legal and safe there. Fuck DJI, they step up on your freedom while bullshitting you on “safety”, which is, again, proved to be not the case with DJI selling your data here and there without your permission. Get this one, or wait for a new Parrot, but man, never a DJI. They have THE CAMERAS, but that's just about what they do have compared to other vendors.
Have you actually figured out how to do missions? I don't seam to be able to find out... Also i have trouble with the Remote not showing the actual Aircraft or its Geofence on the screen despite it having full 3D fix with several satelites. Super weird....
The mission app was super clunky when I tried it and it messed up parameters so I had to reset drone to factory settings. Haven't tried missions since 🍻
Dang! Sorry to hear that! 😟. Haven't had a flyaway yet but did have prop fly off at about 390feet. Was able to retrieve with slightly bent wing and broken prop.
This is great thanks for the review! It said on the screen, " may effect control range" with wifi tethered. It made me wonder if its the same for the Disco. what do you think?
Great video. 2 questions. How did you do the screen record of the controller. Does it have that function. Does it have the ability to program in waypoints.
It would be nice if instead of using the FPV camera footage on the Ground Station you could use the GoPro Stabilised imagery for FPV. A bit like the stabilised video on the Parrot Disco. Having said that, it’s a pretty decent Drone this one.
@@DustinDunnill when you say overall flight distance surely that must mean controlller aswell or how would it get that distance or am i just being thick lol
Thanks man. Was waiting for that. I'm not gonna get it like I thought though. It's kinda ugly and probably too loud. Question: You never did a range test on hubsan zino 2?
@@DustinDunnill I'm waiting on you to flight plan one before I buy it. You did a helluva job with the Parrot. I'm quite for sure you are going to 4G this model.
Parrot did something similar with a mini drone. It looked like a little x wing i bought for my son. Was very hard to fly like a plane and was just as hard to fly as a quad due to shape and weight way worse than this swan but was great fun for a little thing. I wonder if you could modify a disco with an extended boom tail to do something similar but probably create more problems and solve none as taking off is the easy part 😂
I hope someone will do a 4g mod for this plane, then if you put solar panels on the craft it would virtually have unlimited range, charging up it's batteries on the ground facing the sun then taking of when they are full.
I like this machine. It reminds me stuff from the old Star Trek space ship designs. And the motors and propellers resemble the old Phantoms. the possibility to mount cameras on it is nice. There are a mix of many stuff going on that VTOL. And I think that VTOL is beging and screaming for MODS! lol. Puting new FPV system, 4G flight like the Parrot Disco, better antennas and maybe better transmission and reception, more powerfull batteries and so on. I am very curious about people doing things for that model.
After all the huffing and puffing, hokey-pokey and tippity taps on remote controller, connecting to wifi on the phone, repeating a few times, this thing actually flies.
Loss of video: more than 3 kms out at that altitude, your craft must necessarily have been behind the small trees we saw close to the field. What I do in my metric universe: 5 meter high trees 100 meters away equals 50 meters altitude per km to keep my radio line above them. Doing the same thing in imperial units would probably require a calculator, but I find it's always worth doing, especially when flying that low.
Some 'hairy' moments, but it all worked out a-okay. I think had you familiarized yourself with the manual, you might have had fewer 'gotchas' , like burning up power in hover mode. Once you get some time on this machine, it will be interesting. Like you, not a fan of metric displays .. they need to update that. The current installed FPV will not get anywhere near the 15000 meters (9.3 miles). Not sure you can get around that. The AIO camera/VTX setups are not that great either. The video from the GoPro was nice .. but the auto-exposure could do with some adjustment. Looking forward to seeing what you can do with this new bird ... lots of possibilities. Hopefully the next video will be in lesser winds. Mahalo!
The A & B button on off modes are not synced with the software. So for example; if it returned to home from an auto failsafe like range limit without pressing button B you need to press said button twice (turning mode on then off) for it to be synced and turn RTH off. Kind of funky and confusing which is why I was having issues. Holding in seems to be hit or miss also and is kind of the same as just tapping once apparently. Same goes for the Multirotor/fixed wing mode button A 🍻
@@DustinDunnill Wow .. sounds like a LOT of issues with the App software/craft firmware. It's pretty complex & should have spent more time in development ... but, like a lot of drone manufacturers, they apparently decided to let customers do most of their 'Beta Testing' for them. Recent releases by Fimi (Xiaomi) & Hubsan had similar issues with App/firmware. Hopefully, updates will solve this, as this craft looks promising. Mahalo!
Indeed. Most of my issues were discovered on my own and not covered in the instructions. For example also; holding still for yellow box first while calibrating compass. Refinement is definitely needed. In other news... I'm working on antenna upgrades for long range. My stock range test didn't go far enough 🍻

I wonder if you could modify a disco with an extended boom tail to do something similar but probably create more problems and solve none as taking off is the easy part 😂
what nags me.. how is osmo pocket flying in the air? shoo I must've missed an update or two lol
Really did seem to fly nice and smooth in airplane mode, sure would’ve loved to see a low flyby, unfortunate. Who’s flying your chase drone?
Hi mate did you review to hubsan zino mini
In the process 🙂🍻
@@DustinDunnill 👍
How did you enable or side load screen record on the controller?
Found it: AZ Screen Recorder
The android device in controller has an internet browser you can search, download install Android .APKs easily 🍻
Outstanding technology. Amazing the thoughts and design to our fingertips.
Can you make a review on cfly faith 2?
Wow, I didn't realize they were building breathalyzers into drones now. Probably a good idea though, don't drink and fly kids! Lol
😂
Please, Can some recommend me a good camera for this drone ?
That is impressive! You may want to try parabolic reflectors on the range test; looks like you'd run out of transmission before battery range.
Excelente video!
Speaking of The Disco, did that thing ever turn up? The one you lost!!
Never found the one I lost but I have a few others as backup 🙂
Nice job
What's the real flight time?
Great VTOL but I wait for version 2 with gimbal and better onboard camera.
That would be a good improvement 👍
After all the huffing and puffing, hokey-pokey and tippity taps on remote controller, connecting to wifi on the phone, repeating a few times, this thing actually flies.
Loss of video: more than 3 kms out at that altitude, your craft must necessarily have been behind the small trees we saw close to the field. What I do in my metric universe: 5 meter high trees 100 meters away equals 50 meters altitude per km to keep my radio line above them. Doing the same thing in imperial units would probably require a calculator, but I find it's always worth doing, especially when flying that low.
Good strategy 🍻
@@DustinDunnill I can hardly wait to see your 'antenna upgrades' (recalling how you upgraded the XK X380 TX .. not sure if you upgraded the VTX antenna). Yeah, I remember the calibration snafu. Hopefully, they'll watch your video, read the comments, and make some updates. Cheers!
Been waiting for this, before deciding on parting with $1400
The VTOL ability is really the only advantage over say a Disco but that ability really makes flying it anywhere possible 🍻
@@DustinDunnill I honestly think I'll pass on this one. Doesn't really appear to work as an efficient wing flyer. And I'm more then happy taking off and landing within 20 meters. Close, but no cigar..😉
yeh nice unit, but I still love the disco. but age range was great!
And great vid again, thanks.
cool drone
Thanks for sharing
Dam, I want one! But Australian drone laws would restrict the use a lot. Cant use any drone outside of visual range. 😔
Actually... you only have to use drones outside of Police visual range.
@@tuttoto haha good thinking
Very impressive
Are you planning to do a range test on this?
Thumbs up 👍 👍 👍 from the Philippines.
It’s like learning to fly a drone all over again. 😁👍👍✌️
Long Range please
👍
Awesome I want one😁🤘🤘👍👍
