7th overall pick in year 3 being on second team against backups in the preseason? There should NO bad tape.
Our collective expectations for Neal were "can you atleast hold your own against players the Jets are going to cut next week?
Neal answered with a resounding "Not really & my ankle hurts..."
Excellent breakdown Falato!
Thank you!
Just move on from this colossal bust. To be fair to Schoen, literally everyone gave him an A or A+ after this pick, so sometimes, it just doesn't work out, and no one could've seen it differently.
But in my mind, we've got AT - Runyan, Jr. - JMS (who needs to step it up, TBH) - GVR - JE. That's eons better than what it had been, and we can always upgrade GVR in the draft or FA.
The fact it’s even a conversation is a bad sign. He was going against 3rd stringers.
True
Nice review. I agree, move him to guard. He’d be great!
Thank you!
@NickFalato, when I look at these plays, it seems like he's struggling with indecision about where to position himself. His feet appear slow to catch up, making him look off balance and on his toes. This choppy movement often leads to poor balance, causing him to be easily pushed back. I don't see this working at RT. It reminds me of when Justin Pugh mentioned he struggled at right tackle-maybe he just needs to move to the left side (obviously not taking Andrew Thomas's spot, but to your point, moving to guard). I enjoyed the video, thanks for the excellent breakdown.
thanks, Alex, and that seems to be one issue with him. He's threatened by speed and isn't fleet of foot, so he's not confident on where to be and how to handle speed vs. power based on his set.
Can’t anchor because he is unable drop and flex hips. He’s a stiff.
Convert him to a defensive tackle especially on goal line stance or a blocking tight end run blocker
Has zero lateral speed, but also has trouble anchoring. Guy is going to get bulldozed if he goes to guard. I look forward to seeing him “flipping burgers” in the near future.
Not sure if he can play guard but there is no way Neal should be playing tackle in the NFL. With better coaching maybe he can improve to a point but it isn't fair to any QB because he Can't beat speed rushers who are good, let alone third stringers. At guard he can at least use his size to better effect. Even then he has to prove it. Being a first round pick isn't enough to justify him playing though I expect them to stick with him to a point. At times he can run block so make him a guard.
I think the decision to keep him at tackle comes from up top, joe schoen
Evan Neal doesnt lack talent, he lacks heart. He shouldn't be playing tackle in the NFL.
So Evan Neal with help is good, I.e combo block as long as he goes against 2nd and 3rd stringers. Got it.
Neal is trash...he either moves to G or cut him.
It would cost them $8 mil in cap space to cut him. Just keep him on the roster and hope he doesn’t have to play.
Neal needs dance lessons... the merengue in particular.
helped Lynn Swann
Will that help his flipping game?
8:43 this could be the play where we as a fanbase said "Okay, enough of Evan Neal at Tackle!"
I still have a bit of hope but never returning last year and missing majority of camp hampered development.
