John5 is an example of what happens when you mix intelligence with true individualism (how many rock stars can say they don't do, feel the need to do, or acquiesce to doing, drugs) and talent. What a seemingly fantastic person.
Totally agree with you about John 5. The guys got a great attitude. Plus he's a pretty frigging killer guitar player. Without the B.S. primadonna crap. And he plays a Telecaster. Sweet.
John 5 is an anomaly in the music world. No drugs, no alcohol even. Virtuoso guitarist and a down to earth guy. Humble and respectful. He is an amazing person. Much love to you, John!
John 5 is living proof that you CAN create music while you're sober. SRV once stated back in '88 when he went thru rehab that he was afraid to try to write music and play live because he didn't think he could do it sober (without drugs).
Rick Jones , me too. Awsome interview. I was not aware of him as I really dont like Marilyn Manson. Like Rob Z though. Jhon 5 is a cool bloke and an amazing guitarist. Cool as.
I am extremely impressed with Eric, what a great interviewer. He let's the artist talk, actually knows what they are talking about and asks relevant followup questions. Great interview. Cheers!
it's also good to see a famous musician do an interview without all of the cursing and swearing. John 5 is a very underrated guitarist and improves non stop! Love to listen to John 5!!!
gombis666 Agreed. MM's music just doesn't sound the same since he left. I saw them live during the Gods, Guns and Government tour. That was the best era MM I think. Not even Tim Skold could sounded that good.
Yeah don’t get me wrong John is a really good player, but a lot of mm songs were big before he even got there, and I’ve heard that twiggy came up with a lot of the riffs and John was more of a live player
it tripped me out hearing him say he was influenced by watching Roy Clark on Hee Haw my dad used to be Roys manager,Roy gave me my first guitar when i was 13 years old, a 1964 Fender Jaguar gold metalflake.
Take a bow Eric, that has to be one of the best interviews I've ever seen, you did your homework, you toss the ball to John and he hits it out every time, it wasn't about hearing you talk, you didn't interrupt, well done. John 5 is pro's pro, to hear him lay out his career and getting into work ethic and how to succeed was great.
John 5 is such a classy guy. I was at the Sacramento show with MM and Hole, because Hole was great and Manson sounded awesome. I saw them 5 times and that was the best that I heard them sound.
Holy crap what an awesome interview! John 5 is a respectable guy. I have the same attitude towards listening to people that are more experienced in my work field.
What a lovely person. I don't know of many other "Rock Stars" that have such a perfect understanding of what it is that they do> On one hand I find it kind of funny and on the other hand kind of disrespectful and absurd that Jon 5 was actually asked to leave "Marilyn Manson's" band because he DID'NT DRINK OR DO DRUGS..LOL..this has to be a 10 plus on the ridicules meter...I'm glad that he is doing so well and seems to be so happy and content in what he is doing.one of the greatest guitarists alive!
MANSON IS A NO TALENT CUNTY EX ROCK JOURNALIST , HES A MUSIC IMPOSTER AND A FRAUD , JOHN 5 WAS GREAT ON DLR BAND , AND I JUST FARTED TO THE " SONG ALL OVER TOWN" by april wine
I myself am a die hard manson fan, but i totally agree. I mean they kick out Gidget Gein because hes to high, then john 5 because hes never high. I love him, but whats the logic there? Especially with two amazing musicians!
tes420 Yes indeed my friend! He comes across to me as an "Old Soul...Very articulate, at ease and calm and not to mention a freaking genius Guitar God...he really is freakishly awsome...also I like the shirt John 5 is wearing cuz the Frankeinstein Monster is staring at you:-)
John always seems like one of the most genuine/sincere rockstars I've ever seen or heard in any interview. ever. I'd love to meet the guy, most PEOPLE aren't so nice let alone famous rock guitar players whos resume speaks for itself. ALL HAIL JOHN 5!
you are an awesome interviewer. not busy trying to show your guest you "get " them, letting them answer questions without interrupting. you;ve done your homework and engage your guests, and audience. respect. doesn't get better than that.
I saw John 5 on tour with k.d. lang on her All you can eat tour. It was her best tour ever. She had Donnie Hathaway's daughter on background vocals. John was shirtless and wearing silver pants. Love it!
does john 5 explain why he named one of his solo albums "God told me so".Hopefully his answer wasnt Becouse Gold told me to but had another reason you could share please.
Totally relate to the guitar image taking hold. Jimmy Page and Ace Frehley impacted me with those beautiful Les Paul’s and that’s the ultimate guitar for me
I think the interview is this good simply because the interviewer gives John time to answer properly, and he asks good and serious questions, doesn't dig for drama and scandals. Love it.
J5 is absolutely beautiful inside and out. It's so interesting how he thinks (and obviously has) learned so much from his idols, when from what I can see, one or two could learn a heap and from him. Such an amazingly talented, lovely, down the earth man. What an interesting interview. The best J5 I've seen so far. Well done Eric Blair.
i met him earlier this week and asked him for an autograph. he is hands down the nicest guy ive ever met. stood there and talked for like 5min took pictures signed autographs. hes a great guy
I am a pro session player from Nashville. I never really dive into these guys out in LA that are playing "crazy" type music. But this cat is a really good player that deserves some credit. I am a good judge of character, and he has got a wonderful personality and outlook on everything. Plus he plays a tele which is always a sign of a guy who really loves the instrument. Props to John, I wish him much success.
This is possibly the nicest guy in the world, because he's never really suffered. He has no resentment, no anger, no deep hatred, because he's been given or earned everything he could ever want. There's something to be said for being great-looking, rich, and talented pretty much from birth.
BorisQueue I get the same impression and they he seems so glib and unfettered. But it's probably just the way he is and he's got a positive vibe about him that's infectious. Most of the greatest artists have been through hell and or drugs, bad relationships, hate the government etc etc but John 5 is kind of refreshing and I don't think it's an act. He is a true professional it shows in his music and his attitudes
Eric, starting at 5:24, you ask very personal, spiritual questions which most interviewers do not ask. You went outside the envelope in taking the chance to ask these questions. Being a Christian and a John 5 fan, this was very interesting to me. I always wish to know the beliefs of my guitar gods. John 5 is on the right track with his answers. It all comes down to faith. You have to believe...Again, fantastic superb interview, Eric.
Believe it or not I found this while looking up country guitar lessons online. LOVE Johns playing especially his country playing! Eric Blair had done an AWESOME job with this interview! I will check in on more artists he interviews. Very pro and John looks comfortable which must mean he really enjoyed being interviewed.
great interview and great guy, just wish he had been asked about the Loser era, they were a great band who made a fantastic record that seems to be lost in the past.
I had no idea how sweet John really is. I thought he was this air head metal player. I am so glad to now know that he has real depth as a person and as a musician. An inspiration and a professional. Thanks for the post.
J5 always sound's killer on That Metal Show. I can't say the same for other "guitar legends" who have played on there. Great player and equally cool dude!
Saw J 5 and the creatures at Hard Rock in Pittsburgh. Great show. I’m a drummer by trade but started playing guitar because of this guy. Plus he likes Halloween and my kid was born on the 31st of October. Just a great person and musician.
Hey Eric! What a PHENOMENAL conversation! John 5 is the Real Deal, no doubt about it...and so are you! This show of yours is really something special, and having just recently "discovered" it, I'm gonna have a BLAST catching up on the past episodes! ROCK ON!!! Don't ever change!!!
Damn! That would have been soooo amazing, if he had re-recorded all of the guitar on Mechanical Animals. :( That's one of my favorite albums. Now I'm sad that they didn't get to do it.
Check this out. I'm working at the susquehanna bank center in Camden, NJ for Ozzfest a few years ago. It was the year they first reunited black sabbath for the end of the show and I was pissed that my boss couldn't get me into the pit to see them. I storm through the gate and run into John 5 on the phone! I asked him why he wasn't on a bus full of groupies and he says he's going back in to see sabbath because I quote, "I have MY heroes, too, man." Mind Blown. Coolest guy ever.
Great interview! John 5 is not just an incredible musician, but a very sincere person. This was very cool and inspirational to watch. Awesome interviewer! I'll have to watch more of your videos.
I have been a fan of Mr. Lowery's for years even though I can't play guitar. My friend has an entire room dedicated to John 5; I think he even has some autographed pics somewhere in the safe in that very room. Being a heavy metal enthusiast, Lowery's guitar riffs have actually inspired a couple of my newer and darker synthesizer playing.
John 5 is always such a nice guy. He is soft spoken and polite. And he is a superb guitarist. I also play guitar and I really enjoy watching him play. I don't mean for this to sound cliche or anything by using this phrase but he is a very well rounded guitarist. He is the type of guy who can play many styles. He's versatile. Any band would be lucky to have him play guitar for them.
John5 is an example of what happens when you mix intelligence with true individualism (how many rock stars can say they don't do, feel the need to do, or acquiesce to doing, drugs) and talent. What a seemingly fantastic person.
AnnaElisavetta Vonnedozza I was just about to write a comment but I noticed yours and could not agree more ❤️
John 5 is so cool . I HOPE ONE DAY I MEET HIM .
agree 100 percent!!
Very well said Anna!
Totally agree with you about John 5. The guys got a great attitude. Plus he's a pretty frigging killer guitar player. Without the B.S. primadonna crap. And he plays a Telecaster. Sweet.

I absolutely have a new respect for John 5. Specially for not drinking or doing drugs
Caesar Roldan And he is vegan!
+Caesar Roldan And for being able to put up with Manson for 6 years.
+Lexxi Starr agree
@@TheNavarro6767 how do you know?
John 5 is a class act.
This guy is great... I wound up watching the whole interview... John 5 is awesome- a new fan
Rick Jones , me too. Awsome interview. I was not aware of him as I really dont like Marilyn Manson. Like Rob Z though. Jhon 5 is a cool bloke and an amazing guitarist. Cool as.

Ladies and Gentlemen, this man is the very definition of a CLASS ACT.
What gratitude! He deserves all the best in life. I have more respect for him.
it's also good to see a famous musician do an interview without all of the cursing and swearing. John 5 is a very underrated guitarist and improves non stop! Love to listen to John 5!!!
These comments are amazing, I hope John 5 sees them, he deserves all these nice sentiments.
John5 is a great example of how a super good musician can make an entire band better. His effect on MM was so profound.
gombis666 Agreed. MM's music just doesn't sound the same since he left. I saw them live during the Gods, Guns and Government tour. That was the best era MM I think. Not even Tim Skold could sounded that good.
well said and so true. they have been SHIT since his departure. the best they ever had.
+Eternal Primate your opinion...
Yes and no, i mean, Marilyn Manson already had released big hit albuns, antichrist superstar and mechanical animals before him getting into the band..
Yeah don’t get me wrong John is a really good player, but a lot of mm songs were big before he even got there, and I’ve heard that twiggy came up with a lot of the riffs and John was more of a live player
I am really impressed by his down to earth attitude, his playing is phenominal.
John 5 still continues to be a huge inspiration of mine.
he's so honest and gentle
it tripped me out hearing him say he was influenced by watching Roy Clark on Hee Haw my dad used to be Roys manager,Roy gave me my first guitar when i was 13 years old, a 1964 Fender Jaguar gold metalflake.

such a humble dude!
John is a true gentleman, cant not have ALL the respect for everything about him, a true professional in every respect.
How can you not love this guy? Awesome guitar player and a humble person.
Manson "the live" act we're never the same once he was gone. I never heard a band as tight as they were during "Mechnical Animals and GGG tours".
now rob zombie s band is tight.
I wish he played on Antichrist Superstar. Zim Zum eh, he was average at best.
i literally saw him at ikea a few weeks ago, i had to stop myself from freaking out lol love him!
Really???? Wow :O
Most respect John 5... down to earth dude...
Holy crap what an awesome interview! John 5 is a respectable guy. I have the same attitude towards listening to people that are more experienced in my work field.
I truly am enjoying this interview . JOHN 5 IS SO COOL !!!!!!
John 5 is so awesome! Great talent and puts on an amazing show live! He's my inspiration to play guitar! :)

I agree, Azrael. Not only is John5 just such a monster player, he really does seem like one of the nicest people one could ever meet.
I myself am a die hard manson fan, but i totally agree. I mean they kick out Gidget Gein because hes to high, then john 5 because hes never high. I love him, but whats the logic there? Especially with two amazing musicians!
+Azrael Astrum He reminds me a lot of Devin Townsend personality wise...Both very humble and excellent song writers/Guitar players

Holy Wood is still my favorite Manson album. John's guitar work is phenomenal

good to see an interviewer who actually knows his stuff and also lets his guest speak without butting in
Walked away knowing a little more about John5 than going in....a very good interview...tied up a lot of loose ends.
From Rod Stewart to Rob Zombie. John 5 can work with them all. Pretty Amazing.
Super cool dude. I hope to meet him one day.

Youre shitting on him for being a nice guy. I know plenty of people well off and good looking that are cunts.

I get a child like enthusiasm frome him most rockstars don't have that and that's why they self distruct
This guy has gotten to play with the two best Rob's in metal, Halford and Zombie. How awesome is that?

great interview and great guy, just wish he had been asked about the Loser era, they were a great band who made a fantastic record that seems to be lost in the past.
Me being a guitarist, I seriously wouldn't imagine myself "altering my state of mind" with drugs... I don't want to ruin any possible career.
What a wonderful chap. Very down to earth and humble. 🇬🇧
I had no idea how sweet John really is. I thought he was this air head metal player. I am so glad to now know that he has real depth as a person and as a musician. An inspiration and a professional. Thanks for the post.
Saw him live two days ago, at stage im shocked to hear he wasn't high, he's fucking amazing

Blair - you do some great interviews. You ask good questions and know your shit. keep it up hombre
ps John 5 RULES
That was an awesome interview, it was quite refreshing to not have all of the usual questions that he usually gets asked.
Seen John play multiple times before I knew who he was. He is really good I was always pleased with the performances I saw
fucking amazing interview!! I love that

Great questions Blair, never knew about this interview
Great interview, great interviewer. Love John 5.
Is it just me or he looks like Zoolander's Mugatu in this interview?
Great conversation.
What a great interview....wow!
Yeah, it really demonstrates John's awesomely strong and developed rhythm skill.
Probably the best interview I ever watched. Props! Learned a ton!
That is how you interview someone. Love John5 too, great vid.
really great interview! Thanks so much, John is a great guy.
This is an amazing interview, great questions and it's very interesting listening to John 5!
Awesome interview
Rob knows he is the frontman but be assured he know he has gold when John 5 is his guitar player. Manson stupidity was Zombies gain.

Favorite Episode, John 5 is pretty awesome and would be great to interview.
What an impressive individual. Total class. Now I must hear his solo stuff.
Great interview
