Yeah,,,,, you’re so very right. Brian Carol is the exact same way. Absolutely over-the-top true. They spend so much time by their selves working on their crafts, and they cut the cloth from such a good family background that this is what they have to offer. Buck Owens perhaps? lol
John is such a nice, respectable guy. I’ve been a fan of him since I was probably 10 or so, I’m 22 now, and he’s just such a great guitar player and better person. I met him a few weeks ago during his solo tour. So nice and respectful, loves his fans and talking with them
And EVH himself agrees with that. When David Lee Roth released the "DLR" album, the album on which John played Eddie commented by stating "In Lowery, Roth has finally found somebody who NAILS that vintage Van Halen fun factor." High praise indeed.
Jimi Hendrix and Eddie Van Halen understood that the electric guitar was not just a musical instrument but a piece of technology and I think John 5 understood that right on point too, very underrated guitarist.
Buckethead is masterful though so who gives a shit. There is a bit more soul music influence in buckethead's playing. That's not a mark against John 5, they just have a bit of different styles, I love them both! @Mr. Meatballs
I agree. I met John, and he was a incredibly nice person. It was not like meeting someone new. I wish he was my neighbor, so he could tell me about all his guitars. What an amazing guitar player. Yes.. it's great to see his love of guitar. I have much respect for him after seeing his instrumental only show at the Tacoma guitar show.
I got to meet him in person at a Horror/Monster movie convention in Burbank years ago, he stopped to talk to someone at a booth my girlfriend and I were checking out. I turned and said to her in a hushed voice "Dude that's John 5 he plays in Zombie's band he's freakin amazing" He overheard me, smiled and introduced himself and we talked about Monster movies for a good 3-4 minutes and was happy to let me take a picture. A genuinely nice human being and fantastic musician.
He is good. But literally every interview I've seen of him playing he plays the same 3 things. That Buckethead sounding jam he plays at the end, Chicken pickn the same old "heavy riffs" and the same solo with a few notes off. He's creative but a bit overrated, all I see is a country boy with some old hair metal riffs, and classic rock tunes in his pocket. He can definitely play lots of covers and it makes sense as to why he makes a living playing other people's songs for the majority of his gigs.
I love how enthusiastic John 5 is. He doesn’t behave like someone who is just doing a job or is worn out. Look how he lights up when he plays his favorite riffs. I’m so excited to finally get to see him play live in just a few weeks.
John 5 is SICKLY UNDERRATED. I remember seeing him on 'That Metal Show' 5 or 6 years ago, and he blew me away. I'd heard of him, but didn't know he was THAT good. He can play ANYTHING.
Arthur Bishop is he really underrated?i don’t really pay attention to who is being praised but if he is underrated that is sad.he is amazing and he seems like a real great guy
John 5 rules. Hard to hate him. Just too damn likable and so very talented. All the guitarists in these segments make you want to play more. You see that it's not practice for them...it's the pure joy of playing. Nikki you're the man.
I loved the conversation, especially when John told us he starts teaching by finding something the new student can play right away that they love. I think that translates to learning anything, if you can approach it through your interests then you're probably going to put in the time and become good at the thing. I think it's such an important idea and I don't think I've heard it expressed any better.
I agree 100 percent with this. Now to try it for myself and see if I can play anything on a bass guitar or something like that cuz I only play stereo dial now but I love Rock. Am 64 in October.
I’ve heard of John 5, and knew he played with Manson. But I never knew he’s such a cool guy and very humble, I wish him the best and am now a complete fan of his!
John 5 literally is the perfect guitar teacher, most guitar teachers just teach you basic boring shit that makes you uninterested when you’re beginning. I like his approach when teaching people to keep them picking up the instrument
But that's the point of beginning guitar, the basics are the most important thing to learn, come on use your brain 😂 you think a teacher is gonna teach you sweeps or legato on your 2nd/ 3rd lesson 🙄🙄🙄
@@nemesis8626 I think it's more of a thing of J5 and his passion about the instrument and playing in general and seems to be the kind of guy (that if teaching) would keep it interesting and explain (with passion) the what's , why's and where's of the basics and technical side and keep the budding guitarist interested!. Maybe I'm a bit jaded, but I took lessons (briefly) from a few people and I could never make much of a connection with the instructor, or they bored me, or idk..They just weren't good teachers that would use and waste the lesson fooling around on their guitar and then give me some homework lessons to learn as there wasn't much teaching going on during the session!.. As a dude who grew up playing this way until high school where I began to read guitar music, I just wanna say how much I appreciate people learning to play without reading music. I can read music for almost any instrument now, and it has its own place in music, but being able to play by the sound of your instrument is just as amazing and it inspires so much creativity from artists to be intuitive to their instruments. This was an awesome segment, and it made me proud to be a 10 year veteran musician.

That's one I've watched over and over. How cool are two happy, sober. engaging musicians who still recognize their heroes and influences? I have no doubt that John 5 would play for minimum wage the rest of his life if he had to. and he'd be happy. Mr. Sixx has become kind of a metal renaissance man now that he's come out of the other end alive. I like how they treat music like a verb, or a torch to be kept lit.

Em Elle John 5 May have been a small part to Manson’s overall catalog, but his contributions are (obviously my own opinion) my top favorite Manson songs/albums. To my ears, there is a very noticeable difference before, during, and after John 5 left. To me, John created a very specific period for Manson’s work from his presence as part of the band. I wasn’t much of a fan of Manson until Holy Wood, and LOVED Golden Age of Grotesque, but I was not keen on Eat Me, Drink Me, and Manson has been very hit or miss since for me. It was only after randomly hearing Fiesty Cadavers that I learned who John 5 was and how he was the missing ingredient to what made those Manson albums stand out for me. Fan of John ever since.
You guys seriously deserve more views. Great content as usual. I like John 5, he's cool, he doesn't just talk about what he likes but plays each riff right off the bat. Show and tell. :D Hope he'll make another appearnce soon and brings more tunes to listen to. :)
In the 80's, I just liked a few of the Crue's songs -- but seeing this series has made me a fan of Nikki Sixx, and thus a Crue fan -- I also like John 5 a ton too.
Dude is a dude, alright John 5, welcome to the Crue... That you're not another jaded rocker, that enthusiasm gives me hope for the future of heavy metal... Rock on my friend...

It was only after randomly hearing Fiesty Cadavers that I learned who John 5 was and how he was the missing ingredient to what made those Manson albums stand out for me. Fan of John ever since.
Same here
Same lol!
@@kidwajagstang Yeah those two albums are the best! He was going to redo all the guitars on mechanical animals but ran out of time
Ha ha take that mason yer lil bitch pmsl
That was simply amazing. Chills and smiling ear to ear. Thanks 5&6!
Dude the end when he kills like every riff is the greatest shit ever. It was like a DJ guitar player. So sick!

This the the best interview that I’ve ever seen. John 5 is so authentic and seems to be genuinely a good man. Kudo’s!
Very cool, Nikki! This a great program! I love it!
Love John 5! Seen him live with zombie!! When he plays the solo and national anthem with his teeth best part of the show!
19:25; "Put 'em together in a blender and out comes John 5". Well said, the man's a walking encyclopaedia of music.
Awesome!! Cant wait to see him throwing down with Crew!!!
You guys seriously deserve more views. Great content as usual. I like John 5, he's cool, he doesn't just talk about what he likes but plays each riff right off the bat. Show and tell. :D Hope he'll make another appearnce soon and brings more tunes to listen to. :)

John 5 is such an inspiration!! LOVE My Favorite Riff!!! ROCK LIVES!!!!!
vicious. Thanks, guys. Love the passion.
In the 80's, I just liked a few of the Crue's songs -- but seeing this series has made me a fan of Nikki Sixx, and thus a Crue fan -- I also like John 5 a ton too.
FYI...
Black Cat riff was played by Vernon Reid from Living Color on the Janet Jackson song. 🤘🏻😝🇨🇦
Dude is a dude, alright John 5, welcome to the Crue... That you're not another jaded rocker, that enthusiasm gives me hope for the future of heavy metal... Rock on my friend...
John’s stock went up 10,000% when his said “AC/DC”, I officially have a man crush on this cat
Considering the life these two men have lived and are able to sit there conversing like friends in a basement is amazing! They are both very humble, on the princess side of manliness and just downright cool dudes...hands down!
Would love to see him with the Creatures. Saw him with Rob Zom bike back in 2011. He's phenomenal!
I saw John 5 in Las Vegas in 2019... It freakin rocked big time..
John 5 is cool as fuck
John can fuckin shred man. You can tell he has a genuine passion. Dude is seriously gifted. Love that he's such a huge kiss fan too. This is the coolest thing I've seen in a while. I thoroughly enjoyed this. He's mind blowing
Glad to know UFO was an inspiration to Nikki sixx!
What amazes me is how he flows so effortlessly from one riff to another. Seems like a real down to earth guy too.
