  • The world of driver shafts can be a very confusing place.
    There are so many different weights, flexes, kickpoints, models and manufacturers to choose from that it is hard to know where to begin.
    In this video David Cunninghame (@D_Cunninghame) will try and help clear things up for you as he puts KBS’ TD Graphite Wood shaft to the test.
    For this test he chose KBS’s first driver/fairway wood option thanks to the sheer wealth of options available and the excellent mid-launch / low-spin performance it delivers.
    One of the most innovative golf shaft companies, and the go-to choice for many of the world’s top-50 golfers, KBS now offers 25 different shafts through the bag with the KBS TD Graphite wood shaft offering the same feel, efficiency and playability as its wide-ranging iron, wedge, hybrid and putter shafts.
    Each and every KBS shaft is designed to fit the broadest range of golfers - from global stars to accomplished amateurs and even juniors.
    To carry out the test David visited SGGT - Tour Performance Fitting Studios in Edinburgh.
    This state-of-the-art facility is one of, if not the finest custom fitting facility in Scotland, making it the ideal location for such an in-depth test into drivers shafts.
    Watch the video to find out how switching flex and weight can impact driver performance and what happens when David goes from one end of the weight and flex spectrum to the other.

    Very informative and well done. Interesting to see how the numbers vary for the same golfer based on the various shafts.

    Brilliant video thanks so much - wish there was somewhere local that I could try out loads of these shafts

    This was really interesting. The other thing which would have been good to see would be the impact the stiffness has on dispersion. I am sure a lot of people have certain assumptions on it

    • @bunkered
      @bunkered  4 года назад

      For me the stiffer the shaft the tighter the dispersion. Unsurprisingly the 40g A-flex was all over the shop, while the 70g kept getting tighter as I moved up from S to X and onto Tour-X. Changing weight and flex though will impact different golfers in different ways so that's why getting fitted is all important. DC

    Do ALL Graphite shafts come with a spine? I hear so much about aligning the spine to get the correct kick out of the shaft.

    Very informative and good. How does 8 yards make a huge difference in driver yardage? I’m confused.

    • @bunkered
      @bunkered  4 года назад

      I don't know about you but for me 8 yards longer on average with every drive is a pretty big advantage to have. You would almost always be approaching the green with one less club in your hand and that would make a big difference. DC

      bunkeredonline i’m seeing your point now, at your handicap it’s about how close you can get to the pin. I’m learning all the time even though Iv been playing over 25 years. Gapping from wedges to irons and irons to rescues and which fairway wood is best for mid to high handicappers. People just carry a 4 iron for the sake of it and chose a three wood because pros use them.

    Hi, that’s my average shot details according to trackmam simulator, I’m using a 60 g aldila rouge stiff flex in a Taylormade M4 driver,
    do those numbers give you any information that would maybe help you recommend a better shaft for me in the kbs range

    What’s the difference between X shafts and Tour X shafts?

  • @davidyang5131

    It’s also important to note that, you get these distance, you must have a certain ball/swing speed as well. Choosing the stiffest might just make your game worse.

    I've got a question for you im swinging about 95 to 100 with my driver its a 5.5 gram 60 riptide shift every time I try give it a rip I pull the death out of it just recently had new irons and I've gone for 120 grams and I love the heavy feel could my driver feel to light

    • @bunkered
      @bunkered  3 года назад

      Weight can be a tricky one to get right. It's real a personal preference when it comes to fee. If you prefer the feel of heavier shaft and can get one that performs well for you then it could be ideal. Get fitted and see what works for you in terms of feel and the numbers. DC

    I am debating between choosing the kbs tgi 70 r shaft for my new irons vs the kbs max graphite 65 r which I tested briefly a year ago. Currently game the kbs tgi 90 in my current irons. With lockdowns etc impossible to test so any thoughts or advice as to what to expect in the difference between the two shafts.

    • @bunkered
      @bunkered  3 года назад

      Unfortunately I've not tested those shafts myself so wouldn't be able to give you clear advice on them. If you can I would wait until restrictions allow for fitting locations to open back up then I would. Only way to know for sure is to test both shafts properly. DC

      @@bunkered makes sense. Also as additional options include the Mitsubishi mmt and the Accra I series.

  • @conalsands4748

    But I thought a lighter shaft ( 55G) produced a faster clubhead speed and then more distance?

  • @krusher74
    @krusher74 4 года назад +2

    It would be better if you tested this again with an average swing speed 90/95 and then we could have also seen the effects of a shaft that was to heavy and too stiff. but you been any the top end of the range with only saw one side of the effects. As many men pick stiff or X when they don't need it.

    • @bunkered
      @bunkered  4 года назад

      Unfortunately I can't conduct a test at a slower swing speed. I couldn't consistenlty try to knock 15-20mph off my clubhead speed and make the test at all accurate. Hopefully the video has shown that weight and flex can have a big impact on your driver performance and as always get custom fitted to make sure you have the right shaft for your game. If a shaft is too heavy and too stiff for a player then generally they will see too low a launch angle, too low spin and asa result less carry and less control. DC

      Can only speak from own experiences that custom fitting has always proved really beneficial for me. I'm sure most other golfers get a lot from a custom fit session. Hopefully you're next one is spot on and you get the correct set-up. DC

      Did the 70 gram perform best for you at the fitting? did you take your old driver to compare?
