      Time is my biggest one! I have successfully posted every Sunday for 3 months now. Which is a huge achievement for me. And your tip #2 is so relevant. I leave a tripod and light set up at all times. When I had to move them, it made everything that much harder because they're tedious to set up in a small space. Set and forget, and it makes the workflow so much better!!
      My next biggest barrier is trying to refine my script and make it engaging and impactful. I've been using AI for assistance, but it's so time consuming, but I feel like this is one of those areas where it's worth putting in the additional effort. Editing is easy for me as it's my part time job and has been for a while. But scripting and developing a story is HARD. Would love to know what you guys do when developing a video concept and script if you guys could share that process somehow?

      My biggest barrier was and is (aside from my day job and RL responsibilities taking all my time) perfectionism. I loved writing in school, so after Let's Plays, which were stress relief only, I did a few scripted videos and loved it. But, as I wanted to do more of that, my usual perfectionism set in and I struggled to finish scripts at all. It's been a general problem of mine with any project I perceive as "big" and it always creeps up as soon as I "take something seriously".

    Not gonna lie; this is still very disorienting as I legit thought this "set" was Nate's home/dedicated filming space. 😐 Either way, thanks for showing us the different setups and behind-the-scenes. THIS is what I think A LOT of viewers would like to see : You've got a fantastic setup, looks to be a good multi-thousand dollar set up (which is awesome!), however, I think a lot of us would LOVE to see what could be done with a minimal budget, say.. if I have less than $100 dollars to initially invest, just a cell phone or cheap camera that I already have... What could be the potential there for lighting and setup? Go farther and assume we don't have a grand office space to record in, (I record a lot of my videos in my car - but when it's 105ºF outside.. that's not practical)... I think THAT would be a VERY helpful video.
    Comments: Where did you get the metal topped riveted desk?? that looks wicked cool! And I caught the hint on that shiplap wall of a different style of... channel. Cannot wait to see what you have brewing there!

      Also, I would LOVE to hear your favorite camera options (especially for folks on a tight budget). I've been using iPhone forever, especially since having the HDR option on iPhone 12. Currently, I'm using an iPhone 14 Pro Max, and I love it. As a drummer, I can film my playing for over an hour without issue, Airdrop the file to the computer (without the SD card mess), and then I can drag that video file right into Logic to sync my audio, and I'm good to go. The biggest issue I've had with DLSRs is the short maximum filming length (usually 15 minutes at 720p), but I would love to find a good DLSR that ups the visual quality of my videos.

    For me the biggest barrier is being enthusiastic about creating a video that does not get viewed. But I think, there is always room for improvement in all aspects.

      I made two vids that I thought were my best and they have struggled to get any traction. Others that I feel are rather flawed have 150k 200k, 300k, 350k and 950k views. All are 25-35 minutes long. Getting miserably-poor views on something I've put a lot of effort into is certainly a bit of a downer, but just because it's about something I find fascinating, doesn't mean others feel the same. I know that if I put in less effort, that vid would probably get the same number of views despite the less-polished result and I could spend that time making more videos instead of getting that single vid to be as right as possible.

    My biggest barrier in the last five years has been boundaries that other members of the household don't respect, such as turning up the TV to deafening levels when I'm recording, or by knocking on my door when I'm live streaming, the other barrier is having to set up the recording area over and over again, so I tend to do batch recording to compensate. Videos about bare bones (and inexpensive) setups in small spaces would be great if that is within your wheelhouse. How do people without offices and spare rooms and garages do this efficiently? My biggest barrier is being pushed out of the spaces I set up by family members. Most recently I've been working out of a 4' x 4' corner in a converted shed. If I lose that space I'm not sure what I'll do. It's a real struggle to keep a work area that doesn't have interruptions, noise, or stored junk. (There is legitimately no space in my bedroom or in the house.) I realize mine are not common problems, but I think they're relatable to other creators who have very limited space.

My first video actually had only 3k views up until June and after two years it started to get a lot of action. I think its up to about 140k now. I guess never give up on a video. My shorts have done really well and are the primary reason for the channel growth. The trick seems to be converting shorts viewers to long form viewers. I started adding my shorts to TikTok and they have preformed even better over there where I have close to 200k followers now. TikTok just came out with a creativity bata and I was invited to join. This program for me has about a $1.00 RPM but only for videos over 60 seconds long. I posted my first video there and it's actually making decent money. • @tunnel.vision.x
      @tunnel.vision.x Год назад +4

      I would love channel makers to cover this. Why do some videos get shown a lot more than others at the very start? My 4th and 5th video boomed (by my standards - out of nowhere) and every video since hasn't don't even half as well. In the first few hours, they had the same level of views, I woke up the next day and video 4 and 5 suddenly had 15,000 impressions to people and did decently. Most of the videos since are lucky if they get more than 1.5k impressions. Similar CTR, so percentage wise they're very similar. I just don't understand this element of RUclips.

    • @archvaldor
      @archvaldor Год назад +2

      It is extremely unfair...everyone has (in my case many) videos like that. I'm pretty certain what the issue is though with your title. "Life and legacy..." is not going to get you any search traffic and probably not many recommendations either. I imagine most of your viewers are coming through search. If you test it with tube buddy (there is a free version) you'll see that your title scores poorly on search while something like say "Abraham Lincoln biography" scores high.

    • @SageandStoneHomestead
      @SageandStoneHomestead Год назад +2

      Sometimes the ones that go further have picked up on a trend. Even if you don't realize it. Trending keywords spoken or in titles and thumbnails can push the algorithm into seeing it as something that will do well so it pushes it out further. If nobody clicks the impressions given, it does halt the exposure though. So titles and especially thumbnails are very important too. Nate has videos on this but I can't recall what he called them. It's one of his videos where he draws on the desk.

A tip I can pass on - I'm moving so it is crazy right now and I decided to use a photo of a place I normally film in front of and Canva's greenscreen background remover. It honestly did a good enough job that I could film from in front of my computer desk and stick the photo as the background and you really couldn't tell. But could you also do a few adjuncts to this one - what to do when you are moving (I'm in a major move interstate right now including Airbnb's along the way) and barriers for creative channel makers (sewist here - it just takes so long to do the tutorials). Video editing is also my biggest barrier as it takes me forever. I use Davinci Resolve 15 (18 is too much ram for my older computer) and I'm getting better (combining it with Descript right now) but I just am a one woman band and it takes me so long.

Then, when you're ready to derush, start at the end and look at your sound graph to cut out mistakes (the bit behind the two sound spikes). It saves me quite a bit of time, and as a bonus I get to clap at my own mistakes.🤣

    My barrier right now is having terrible hay fever! Nobody deserves to see me in this state. I found I was making excuses about it being Too Hard to set up for filming, so I set up a studio in a spare bedroom, with an electric powered rise and fall table, wall-mounted lighting booms, ceiling-mounted microphones and an IKEA Kallax backdrop with backlighting, then ran up some curtains for the walls and for a bit of sound treatment. I bought an old Sony a7s II that I have set up as a permanent 4k video camera for the studio, and use my a7 IV with a gimbal that's always ready to go for action shots, my phone for those sudden opportunities and a second permanently-installed a7s II for shots in my machine shop. I have an old ZV-1 that I use for second-angle shots. In another room there's my electronics assembly bench with a rigid inverted-U frame with a Noga-style arm and Arca-Swiss quick detach fittings so I can pop the a7 IV on it for overhead macro shots without any prep. I have wall-mounted lighting brackets for a pair of LED panels and a 100 watt brolly LED diffuser, plus a few adjustable spots. There's still a pile of work to do with sound treatment, I need some acoustic blankets and wall panels too. I use cheap 17 inch HDMI screens as monitors for the cameras, mounted on wall arms, plus I use remote control apps for the lights and cameras. That has taken away almost every possible excuse based around equipment, space and facilities, so now it's down to fighting my personal demons about not being good enough at sound, editing, presenting, scripting, business negotiation with sponsors and the need to get occasional sleep. Oh, and I need to finish setting up my electrochemistry lab, laser cutters, 3D printers and sheet metal gear in the second workshop and a metalcasting area, TIG/stick welding and grinding zone, plasma cutting and hydraulic press shop in the barn. Oh, and there's flights to book for the next visit to a manufacturer for a collab video. I'm sure creators who get videos out more regularly must have a team to do all this stuff. I have to do the housework and cooking and shopping and the Day Job as well, but my excuse for not getting a video out two weeks ago is hayfever, or the side-effects of the meds. Or something. Yeah, I need to stop making excuses and just get stuff done.
