I was wondering if anyone did this. It would be cool if it became a popular photography style. I feel like you film guys are next level when it comes to gear.
@@ZachTigue oi tudo bem?
I have the Panasonic G9 with the 24mm anamorphic Len’s and intend trying it for photography. Unlike the GH5, there is no anamorphic preview, so I bought a Feelworld bright monitor. This support various crops and de-squeeze ratios, one of which suits the 1.33 squeeze whether shooting in 3:2 or 4:3. It also does the 2.39:1 for de-squeezing 16:9 video.
Similar setup for me. I just hate chucking on a monitor as I like a smaller kit for ease of use. Hopefully all these camera brands see what Sirui is doing and implement an in camera desqueeze!
I truly enjoyed this video. I think anamorphic photography doesn’t get the credit it deserves. I recently got the Sandmarc anamorphic lens for my iPhone and am playing around with taking stills with it. Loving it so far.
I wanted to try anamorphic photography for 2 years now. Recently I saw that Sirui produced really affordable and convenient anamorphic options. For a full frame camera, what would be a nice focal length? Most of the time I shoot with 50mm, but how does this compare to a 50mm anamorphic like this Sirui?
The Sirui 50mm Anamorphic lens will have a HORIZONTAL FOV of 56mm in FF terms, so the 50 may be a good place to start! Just make sure you're comfortable with this being an APS-C lens
I have really been thinking about doing this myself now that there is a 35mm, I just love the look an anamorphic lens gives. Not crazy at all in my mind! How sharp are the images @ f/1.8?
Loved the pictures. How did you get rid off the circle edges in photography mode while using an anamorphic lens? Did you get rid off those in post too?
This is great! I love the character anamorphic adds. You can adjust the aspect in the geometry setting in LightRoom (mobile too) but my testing shows that it crops the sides off a bit. It does work in a pinch for getting out shots to social media from your phone. Sometimes I use Affinity photo to resize and then adjust that output in LightRoom.
On my iPhone I use an app called Desqueeze (free) to desqueeze my images then I go into Lightroom mobile/Snapseed to edit the photos. Quite an easy and useful workflow for iPhone anamorphic images.
Hey! I use Affinity to crop to 21:9, which is close but you could easily crop to 2.35:1 or 2.4:1. If you use Photoshop, this can also do it. You may also be interested in cropping to the Hasselblad XPAN ratio!

Thanks! I wish I had more free time to experiment with it.

I just purchased the 4 lens suite of Sirui lenses for my Sony a6600. I’ve taken some videos and photos as well. I like both very much. Nice video!
This video is so zen
Thanks so much!
I have ordered mine today and going for 24mm. I will be using with A6600 for street photography.
Watching this as a Canon guy… I’m jealous and want to shoot anamorphic as well :D Great shots, man!
You're in luck! Sirui has announced a FF 50mm anamorphic lens
thanks for the video. helped me decide :)
cool photos! and idea with fotoshoots. not only for vids, i guess
What’s the focus gear you used
If you search Pergear TPU focus gear that’s what I use. Idk if they still make them
Great photos and lovely editing! It is because my bank account doesn't allow it, but you just sold me a Anamorphic lens.
Whenever I get a day off, I'm taking them back out for another photo session! Thanks for the kind words 🙂
@@ZachTigue i’m thinking of renting a lens for the weekend. I just hope I don’t get hooked, because my bank account still won’t allow it :p
@@pdebie1982 it's quite addictive. Watch out!
@@ZachTigue Yeah I'm probably gonna fall for the bait..... :P
This might be an obvious question but could the Sirui 50mm lens work with the Fujifilm XT30?
Absolutely! Works with any interchangeable lens Fuji camera in the X mount line up
Not stupid at all. I do it too. You get so nice cinematic shots at night in the city. Looks like a scifi film.
I need to try a night city shoot!

These things are super sharp to me. I havent pixel peeped them by any means but this lens has constantly impressed!
imagine i just put this lens in my cart then removed the previous the one .. this will be my daily lens
As much as I love this lens, I don't think it could be my daily driver. You're brave!

@@youfollow_ You sure will! Try modding it for even more anamorphic-ness!

oh man these shots would have looked 10x better during golden hour

I cropped in just that liiittle bit.
good eye
shoot 3:2 and after desqueeze it will be a nicer 2:1 picture (1.99:1) as when you cropped down to 2.37 ratio it can be a bit much
I've grown to liking it, I think due to my UW monitor, but you are right. It's a drastic look, especially when vertical.

Not sure on Darktable but I couldn't do it on LR!

how to desqueeze on lightroom?
I had to use Photoshop. If you find a way to do it in LR, let me know!
