- I finally got a chance to see how fast our Darkside 2020 BMW K1600 GT was with the new Brentune (BT-Moto.com) ECU flash. They do BMW, Ducati, KTM, Triumph and more. Wow, does this thing pull!
We are running a 205/50-17 BF Goodrich Comp 2 AS at 40 psi. Rock solid all the way up!
What a beast! I don't think there's to many bikes out there that big and comfortable that will run like that
There really aren't. There are Gold Wings and Triumphs and Indians, then there are a few Ducatis that perform better but you can't tour 2-up with them across the country. The closest competitor is of course, another BMW, the R1250RT. But you still lose almost 30 hp and torques in the process.
That looks like a really nice bike. I rode my R6 back from Alaska to Michigan and wanted to stop around the first 15min 😅

Watching the video, I was like hey that highway yard looks familiar! 20 from 15 over to 89 is a fun little road. Spend a few weeks every summer in Panguitch.
This was his last bike video. He passed away in October.

You should get the European version of the GT - it does 260 kph aka 160 mph +/- speedomoter deviations of course.
You cannot really compare BMW K 1600 to a Honda Goldwing because they’re totally different motorcycles, BMW is more of a sports tourer and The Honda Gold wing is 100% comfort tourer.
Well, yes and no. You can ride the BMW like the Honda and then they are very comparable. You just can't go the other way around. :)

My speedometer is off by about 2.5 mph, did the flash fix it or is yours spot on - the same as the GPS/Phone?
GPS actually said 143. Forgot to mention that.

I have been eyeing the GT lately but my worry is the cost of maintenance for the BMWs,. Can you weigh in and provide your feedback on you experience so far. Someone in comments in another video mentioned he paid 1500 for brake work. That is what is keeping me from pulling the trigger. thanks. 😎
So, brake pads through Caltric are - get ready - SEVEN dollars for the rear, and $13.00 for the front. They require removing two screws to replace and takes all of 5 minutes. Rotors are available if you warp one, but I've not had that issue with my 65k mile 2012 and I ride HARD in the mountains around Salt Lake City.
There are independent motorcycle shops that are way less than the dealer, or you can do some of the easier tasks yourself. I have a bunch of how-to vids right here!

For anyone in the future that sees this Maintenance is not bad. You can do a lot of it yourself. The big ticket item is valve checks because there are so many but the common wisdom is no one ever gets them checked because we have never seen them need an adjustment.
So just regular stuff like oil, brake fluid, filters and you are good.
Is it mph because it's too slow for a 1600cc???

It would be about 228 kph I think.
I don't think this is a top speed because i also have bmw k1600 gt 2019 and the two of us easily get to 250 km/ h on speedmater
Remember, this was at 6000 ft altitude with a large winshield.

No it isn't. That is for the Big America model with the top case. GTL is now limited to 227 km/h (140mph) on the autobahn. GT model (without top case) will go 260 km/h (160 mph) drag limited.

You don't buy a Ferrari or date a stripper because they are reliable and inexpensive. Some things are about more than low cost. :)
Just sold my 2020 Goldwing. Excelente bike. Bought a 2022 K1600 GT. Three are two different bikes for two different tastes. Goldwing nice and comfy, K1600 nice and wild. Neither is better than the other.
