Can you believe...I sit in Australia and watch this. After 3 laps it started looking familiar and then I saw "Zwartkops" Bring back some good memories on a CBR1100XX! Nice to be able to run around the other guys...Enjoy!
Firstly. You rode that bike, that big heavy bike, like a boss. Well done. Secondly I cant believe how many riders sucked in that group. Thirdly I cant believe they let guys on the track there without leathers. Wouldnt happen here in Oz. Impressive video. Well done
Absolutely. But I was really riding at the limit...if you focus on engine sound you will hear many times as I start to bring the bike up on acceleration, rear would slide. Front wheel would also skid slightly (easiest to spot those moments is when you see screen going left right when bike is leaned over). I like to get the feel for bike on the track - then you know the limits when you take it on the road.
what an interesting video. I did track days but it was always we a lead and a tail ensuring the group stayed cohesive - it was about techniques, not including passing. We also had to tape up anything glass including our speedometer and mirrors and we had to remove our panniers (luggage) including Top Cases. It if was built in then it was ok as long at they were secured nicely. What i learned during those days was SMOOTH IS FAST. Mr Mirage GP is smooth!
Hi Richard, on normal track day we would do the same but this was BMW dealer sponsored track day, that's why you see top boxes and mix of bikes. Thanks for the compliment, I was actually riding with pillion, son of my good riding buddy. All 3 of us felt very brave that day! ;-)
This bike is so fast and handles very well for its size, extreme fun. It is surprisingly nimble in city traffic once you realise how well balanced it is and you've gained its trust. When you park it just be careful of pebbles, sticks and oil etc under your boot. Just relax and think ahead.BTW, it handles the dirt roads with confidence too. Tight U-turns in the city are a snack as long as you provide a smooth throttle and not afraid to lean.
Great video. Great riding. Great bike. I'm in process of getting a GTL right now. As good as the K1600 performs, a good rider on a sport bike will eat it's lunch... but they can't ride 280 miles with luggage, cruise control, and Bluetooth sound system :-)
One must have on-track experience before ever attempting this on any sport touring machine. This is a seriously experienced rider. Nice and impressive. I've read that the newest 14-15' K1600gt's have no trouble keeping even wi 1000 cc sport bikes from 0-100 mph. The GTL versions are a full sec slower but still. The 15' K16GT clocked a 0-60 mph of 2.6 sec and 0-100 of 5.2... Amazing. The Concourse KZ14 Kawi was the 0-60 and 1/4 mi king till the 14' or 15' K16GT came out. That Kawi Concourse did 3.4 sec 0-60 and 10.8@131 in the 1/4 in 12'...
08turboSS Of course, it's not just about acceleration figures... I did my best to do it justice and I think track is the perfect place...engine, brakes, suspension - everything is put to the test.
I just purchased a '15 GT, my first experience with a 6. All I can say is OMG, smooth and powerful! You don't notice the weight once you get going, in fact it instills a little confidence on the highway because you feel 'substantial'. The only time I feel the weight is when I'm putting it on the center stand...
Bike is heavy but it rides well, I agree. I was hoping for a lighter version but nothing yet from BMW and they have presented their line for next year already. Can't wait to try new XR.
OK, I'm impressed :-). I test rode on of these as a potential replacement for my K1200GT and I thought 'pretty amazing how chuckable it is for how heavy it is, but it's too heavy for a daily all round ride, and I bet it all goes wrong if you start having too much fun'. I still think it's a bit of a lump for nurdling round town on, but judging by this video, it really can boogie like a sports tourer, can't it!!!
Looks like great fun! Whats it like around the corners? I can imagine it being a bit like my 7series hehe, got all the power in the world but feels heavy. Once owned a bmw F 650, really agile small bike.
Saw this K1600 vid and your 1250RT. Which is more capable on track? Also please take an R18B on track (not R18)🙏 would love to see how you push her around 💪🏽🏍
Hello mate - I haven't been riding for a while now - had an accident - look for Anatomy of the accident video in the channel. RT is more capable, any time.
They don't compare at all... I have ridden XR on the road only (there is a video in this channel) - K1600GT is much more supreme tourer than XR. Even GS tours better. XR is predominantly sporty ride.

miragegp Yes, it's a nice bike, I enjoy riding it. But until now, I never rode it on circuit, though. And it's limited to 106 HP, it costs a fortune to register it otherwise, unfortunately :-(

Therefore, I figure you are an experienced roadracer. I never 'got' your line for Turn 2? (Right hander with 'tower' on the left). It doesn't seem 'right', unless..you normally back-it-in?. Do you have a vid of you using this line on a SuperSports or DOT tire class (or is it a 'slick' line). I've never seen that track, nor have I raced in years, so forgive my impertinence. ;-) Questions... How did it feel - Obviously, you pushed it near 'a' limit. Was it your limit of comfort on the bike - until it felt out of place; an intangible (the owner was watching/you just bought it); or, what on the bike told you 'enough'? I assume you had the suspension full-hard, and the t/c and ABS at least-intrusive settings? I'm obvously NOT looking at this for a 'race bike' - but this is the first video I've seen of one of these 'tracked' by a competent rider - and I saw a lot I liked. Is the power controllable/usable? Will it lift the front tire, or just spin the back? When you spun the back tire a little, there didn't seem ANY drama, the back barely looked like it moved wide - nor did the bike seem to 'chop' the power and want to throw you over the bars (correct?) You did most of your braking upright. Will it brake and turn in without feeling like it will plow? Does it warn you it'll do that? Did you invoke the ABS? Did the brakes (or rather how much did the brakes) feel 'hot/soft'? Stock brake pads? What tires? Stock? I'm pretty sure they went 'off' (I'm sure I saw the front end washing out just a bit when you began 'following with intent' that other BMW!). Again, on camera, looked like a non-event, actually - but how much of a moment was/were it/them in real time? What 'feeling' did you have leading up to the front sliding - I assume you did? Did the tires come 'back' for the ride home/rest of lifespan, or were they toast?. And finally, how much lean angle in reserve? I assume 'good warning' from pegs, before something inflexible runs aground? Sorry for all the Q's - this bike (2014 or likely 2015) would be a significant purchase, and a change of style for me (to multi-day, 'exploration touring') - I'm 6'1", 240lbs Late 40's (will ride one-up). Again, thanks very much for making and posting this vid. You provided $many-hundreds of value to demonstrate handling one could never do on a 'test ride'.
Thanks for your compliments - I am going to reply later in the day, responding from mobile phone now. I have never ridden that bike before, it was dealers demo unit. Everything stock. I have really EPIC video in the making with also brand new, 2014 K1600GT with pillion with metal scraping every corner.
miragegp Yeah only because the wind is really strong and present. Everyone here (in the comments) seem to be fine with the video though so I wouldn't worry too much, just my opinion.
You rode that land Yacht like a boss. Loved it.
Cheers mate, thanks!
the 6 cyl on the high rev sounds amazing....
Like old M3.
This bike is simply incredible! Got mine in 2013 (GT). Could never get anything else. Thanks for posting this.
saladin allah You're welcome. Glad you still love and enjoy your bike.
Das die K1600 Gt so ein Geiles Sound hat , habe ich es mir nicht gedacht.Bravo.
Thanks Mr Lee. Bruce Lee ;-)
Great ,keeps me warm on a winters day when the bike is locked away. Great riding and film work
newsouthwhaler Cheers mate - I have to finish 5 more videos. Will edit and upload before New Year.

Hendrik van Zyl Cheers Hendrik !!!
Hope Australia is treating you well !
Very impressive, I'd never have thought such a big bike would carve around a track so well.
It's good to know the limits. Safely, best place to explore it is the track.
Firstly. You rode that bike, that big heavy bike, like a boss. Well done. Secondly I cant believe how many riders sucked in that group. Thirdly I cant believe they let guys on the track there without leathers. Wouldnt happen here in Oz. Impressive video. Well done
Tracks don't accept textile?
I'd be fucked.
I'm fat, leathers would cost more than my bike
@@bigboi9611 At Phillip Island its leathers regardless of conditions. Other tracks will let you wear textiles
this video proves it not all about the bike, but the skill of the rider.
at around 310kg you handled this beast like a boss.
well done
Thanks - I have one more video to upload, latest 2014 model, on the track again, scraping pegs every single corner ;-)
miragegp :D i subed, lol really wanna see it
I can't believe the least angle you can get with this bike. Now that I'm older but still wanna have fun. This looks like a great option.
Go for it - it's great motorcycle.
Absolutely. But I was really riding at the limit...if you focus on engine sound you will hear many times as I start to bring the bike up on acceleration, rear would slide. eric gibson It's great bike but it is VERY heavy.
miragegp And still 150 lbs lighter than my Harley-Davidson Road King :-( I want a GT.
Then you must get one ! ;-)
Impressive riding on such a big bike. Shows just how capable they are! 👍
They are but its hard work. Bike excels in long sweepers.
Best parts are where you loft the front in 3rd as you hammer it. Wonderful motorcycle.

Great video! We have one in our club, the owner calls it the Bismark!
Great riding, what tires were you using? How did they look afterwards?
You really got balls, this bike is so heavy, and a crash should easy total it.. Awesome sound
I keep on thinking what would it be if BMW made HP version of this engine and dropped in lighter frame...
I'm a newly licenced rider not new to bikes, THIS bike-is what I crave.
Was von Reifen hast Du auf die K1600gt drauf????👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Just got a 2011 GTL....inspiring!

Hello mate - I haven't been riding for a while now - had an accident - look for Anatomy of the accident video in the channel. RT is more capable, any time.
you've convinced me. im getting one. What tyres were you running?
Metzeler Roadtec Z8
I understand they have traction and suspension control. Did you have any of that tuned in or was this day just a 'learning the limits' day?
Remarkable for a such a big bike,thks
Bruce Kendall Cheers mate, thanks.
Have you tried S1000XR, how would you compare the 2?
They don't compare at all... I have ridden XR on the road only (there is a video in this channel) - K1600GT is much more supreme tourer than XR. Even GS tours better. XR is predominantly sporty ride.
I was on Road Dynamic (minimum traction and ABS intervention) and suspension was set up for 2 passengers/sport (firmest setting).
what gear are you using? 3 and 4?
Man that was some goood Shhhhh Right there nice ride , sounds like you needed a few more laps . You just started too make it sing lol
How would you compare this to the r1200rt in terms of handling? I saw you rode the same track with that bike.
RT feels like a scooter compared to GT, it's much lighter and more flickable.
hey what exhaust do you have oNn that thing I DONT THINK IT's STOCK?
Amazing ride.
Thank you.
One more video coming soon...faster ride on brand new 2014 model.
all this while listening to music, signaling at every turn, carrying his wife in the back, and groceries in the bags. :D
Track day and the guy on an ST with a top box!! Very impressed and great engine sound. You should have the stereo on playing "March of the Valkyries!"

Front is rather vague - you have to ride it a bit first to get confidence and feel. For what it is though, I can't complain, bike is over 300kg.
May I refer you to the Ducati 1200S on track day.
+Zeno Guy I'm not sure I understand you Zeno ?

Who else thinks they need to make a K1600S ?
I do ;-)
There is already one!

nice riding. Superbikes vs Sportstouring bike and you drive faster
Something like that, yes :-)
lol you owned them
It is stock exhaust - you just have to rev the bike :-)
