  • In Cyberpunk 2077 civilians can live the experiences of others through braindance technology, but did you know that this concept was already used in a mid 90s film? Strange Days isn't some crazy niche movie, but it being older coupled with it bombing at the box office makes it not as well known as some other movies that the game is inspired by. I first saw it years ago in school. An interesting watch if you have the stomach for it.
I believe this is available on streaming in the US via HBO Max and Amazon Prime but it may differ depending on regional distribution.

You should do more videos on references to other cyberpunk genre movies in cyberpunk 2077 cuz I had no idea this existed, and the game is chock-full of obscure references.

I’ll definitely think about it. Maybe the ones that are more referenced on the nose. There’s a ton of movies in the cyberpunk genre that could be worth talking about.

You haven't read Neuromancer? BD's ( in the novel called SimStim's), shard in a slot behind the ear, all these elements were present in the novel.

Never read the book, so TIL. Very cool. Do you know if they were also featured in the original tabletop game?

@@breadballer I guess so. Pretty much everything in the original tabletop game was inspired by Neuromancer - implants, megacities, cyberspace, nanowire, shards, power in the hands of corporations, mad AI's etc. Neuromancer has two sequels - Count Zero and Mona Lisa Overdrive. Count Zero is equally excellent (as is short stories collection Burning Chrome), Mona Lisa Overdrive is more, lets say, mediocre, as is pretty much everything W. Gibson wrote later. Sadly.

I actually did try playing it a month or two ago. I can only access it via emulator and it unfortunately wasn't running well for me. Maybe someday if I can work out the technical issues.
