At last! Someone who reviews the i4 40. Liked this review and agree with everything. In the UK the self driving feature is not available on the 40 😡. Waiting for mine to show up, couple of weeks to wait. Was very interested in your range finding. Thank you!
Thanks for a great review. I just took delivery of an edrive 40 yesterday and am loving the car! I find it more enjoyable to drive than a Tesla Model 3 or Tesla Model S! Just not quite as fast as those cars.
My i4 edrive 40 is my fourth BMW. As with my previous BMWs, it drives and performs well. I have the premium, driver, and parking assistance packages. LOVE IT! The iconic sound is $200 extra or included in m-sport package.
BMW is committed to making green EVs. To that end, they did not install a frunk, which would have encouraged conspicuous consumption. Our new e40 msport is averaging 4 mi/kWh. Far better than I expected.
It seems the general trend is that the BMW i4 definitely exceeds its estimated ratings. All reviews have been good for the distance. The e40 is something I hope to get when more stock is available and real world 350 mi per charge seems very possible which is top tier for current EV market. Tesla for example always underperforms than its estimate which is unfortunate
I'm gettin 3 miles/kWh in winter, driving carefully. Still good, for a 50 mile trip at 70mph!!! A company called Wokeby are making a frunk for the i4. I might get one, just to stash the cables in. More boot space then.
@@grahamf695 I did a 140 mile round trip too, from Stoke to Sheffield and back. Speed limit all the way. Usually 60 or 70. Same again, 3 m/kWh. 5 deg C . 😎
I have this car and your review is spot on. Its very pleasant to drive. I would have liked to hear a more in depth explanation about the charging options and speeds. Cheers!
Well analyzed,~* very much agree with you of the comments for those features , like “beaver tooth”, “old interior design not futuristic enough”, “lag on the screen”, terrible leg room at the rarer seats etc…
I enjoy your reviews very much but may I suggest that you make a mention of the general price level of each model you review? I appreciate they differ (sometimes widely) across Europe, but it might help viewers to compare them more easily? Thanks again for your hard work - it's much appreciated.
I own and still drive a 2014 i3 which I really like until I test drove the i4 for a few hours. Efficiency is important and rear wheel drive. I have test driven 2 model 3s and it just didn’t handle well for a rear wheel drive car- it felt like it floated instead of gripping the in the turns. German car it is!
I bought my 2023 (base car without options) in California 6 weeks ago. I am happy to report that nearly all of the safety systems he said you have to pay for, are free on the base car.
And I’m totally agree with the door handles, that’s actually one of the major considerations when purchasing a car. Because that’s one thing I hate in my old car. Instead of grab and pull, this type of door handle needs a lot more finger power to hold on and pull.
Currently driving a BMW 330e Touring. Electric ⚡️ only miles being much compromised by the cold 🥶 weather. Do the current i4’s coming off the production line have a full ‘chip’ complement? U.K. 🇬🇧
Great car , Love Iconic sound but MOdel S just WAY WAY BETTER.... Usable Rear seat, frunk, better sound quality, 100kw battery, better infotainment and better phone apps...
Here in California a Model S costs at least 40% more than a BMW I4, so the Tesla better have a few additional features! I just sold my Model S and bought an i4 edrive 40. I think the BMW handles better and has better suspension.
When it comes to physical appearance there's no objective better or worse. But damn in this case I bet 99% of all people would disagree with you. The Tesla Model S is such an ugly car. The new Plaid looks quite cool because of some details. But the older one is garbage. And in addition - and that really is a fact - the interior quality in the I4 is way better than in any Tesla available. Also from an environmental perspective the I4 is just the better car... Lower battery capacity and no rare earth metals
Tesla has nearly zero connetivity to your smartphone as they don't support CarPlay or Android Auto. Tesla is lacking a lot of features and apps that may be important - atleast from my perspective. The navigation of Tesla is kind of OK but much worse than Google maps with all it's options. The voice recognition is bad and is only available with internet connection - which often fails for hours after crossing borders in Europe. Tesla is lacking a lot of features. The automatic wiper function is horrible. It will wipe for minutes on a sunny and dry day on your clean windshield. It won't wipe for heavy rain on the motorway. The interior quality is even worse. There is rattling and squeaking from any part. I drove at least 6 different Teslas and it was the same every time. Tesla also doesn't offer a head up display or good seats with extension for long legs. If you need Steam and games on your car infotainment I have to admit that this may be a plus. I prefer working technology. I have at least one "phantom braking" per week with Tesla. I know that you mentioned Model S and my experience just comes from owning a Model 3 SR+ 2021 and a Model Y LR 2022. I'm just guessing that it's similar along the lineup of Tesla. I had 2 Model S as replacement vehicles and they were similar. Not everything is bad about the car but it's far from perfect and there are good reasons to choose other cars.
EVs are expensive as hell... many go for pointless renting, lease etc... for such cars.... others might try to buy it and be the slave of bad investment debts.... I just dont get it it 🎉 nice car tho like many other EVs
Expensive yes, but as long as you can afford it, go for it, it’s a luxury we give ourselves, me and my family. I will get mine soon. 2-3 weeks . Looking forward to it.

There has been lots of criticism of the big grill but the Nightshade trim seems to help the look of the whole front end.
Thank you. Have a 520d at the moment. Will seriously consider the i4 as my next BMW. 🇮🇪

Great on-point review. I like your attitude about efficiency in EVs
One of the best reviews I have seen. New subscriber 👊
Mine is being delivered next Monday
Mine should be here in a week or so. 😁
How long did you have to wait?

true one of the best cars on the market, although I go for the M50 because it looks just a bit better.

No mention of whether this is the 2022 or 2023, but I heard some options had been made standard for 2023.

Thx for the review. Still 10 month waiting for me :). FYI : you have a loop in your video. 10:19 and 10:29 are the same thing... :)
You are right... Oopsie. Thx for noticing.

Mine was built in October 22 and had all the stuff I ordered.
20 additional miles with the 18" wheels.
I got the 19s, and gave up the 20 miles. 18's look silly. The 19s were included in the M Sport pack anyway.
@@Nick_Smith1970 I also skipped the M-Package because it kills efficiency du to a 0,1 higher cw-value

I'm 6ft 1" and couldn't fit in the back of a Model S. Not enough headroom. Similar in the i4, but I don't climb into the back of mine. 🤣

There are plenty of affordable EV's. Obviously BMW isn't going to be one of them.
