I go into ever movie or show that says "based on a true story" knowing there will be some truths but it's mostly spectical because that's what people want when they go to the movies. It said loosely based, which told me they read an interesting story about a real person and had fun with it. While I appreciate learning the true story, it wouldn't have made as compelling of a film. I also appreciate they say he committed no murders. Overall it was a fun movie that suprised me, Glen Powell especially. Was nice to see his range
I love Linklater...he made very diffrent kind of movies. He films whatever he wants and not what hollywood want. He turns newton boys, Bernie and Hitman and turn into a good not pretentious films. He is a genious. My fav filmaker ever
I mean... In reality if they did use ONLY the truth, it would've been a boring ass movie. I think that's why they said it was somewhat true which it was so u can't really blame the guy

И мне фильм нравился, ровно до этой заключительной сцены. Концовка всё испортила. Можно предположить, что в этом был такой смысл - если ты долго притворяешься кем-то, то становишься им? Но последние минуты вроде бы показывают милую семью, и это никак не вяжется с тем, что такие милые муж с женой - убийцы, которым всё сошло с рук.
I mean I liked the movie but I don't get it, they should've just made this full fictional and not used Gary Johnson as a reference. Now, I am not his relative, but imagine the impact of this movie on their relatives. Even though the story was made up, random people will always tease the family with this kind of shit.
It's a shame that Hollywood changes so much of the truth, but it happens. I never met the real Gary, so I can't personally say whether or not he would like the movie. I liked it, except the ending came right in the middle of the movie. It went jumped the 2nd scene to the 4th and final scene.
Well.... that's Netflix for ya. They can never really give you the truth on a "true story" they make up so much crap and blatant lies. Which the real true story could of been good enough. They definitely did this with the Central Park 5 and people still believe the Netflix movie "when they see us" as fact. 😤😤
Actually, the script and story was written by Glen Powell and Richard Linklater. It’s a film, it’s deliberately turning up the fake yet true narrative. The real Gary Johnson had an accomplished life prior to becoming an investigator for the Houston DA.
You're talking about a TV show (Netflix is basically just TV that you pay for) You're expecting it to make sense? I think that most writer, directors, producers of TV think that, if you're still watching TV then you're stupid enough to accept anything they feed you.

This movie is not at all based on true events. They briefly took the real story and spiced it up out of proportion.
