I’m a book holder anlso and I totally agree. Southern needs to really get their act together. They would actually push aside their true supporters to uphold some bullshit and some non-supporting clowns.
Thank you for the breakdown and perspective. I would be interested to see how SU Athletic Director Roman Banks would actually plan to address this issue with a feasible, strategic plan. I think part of the issue is lack of transparency and accountability in parts of the Athletic Department, particularly at the top.
I agree attendance has been low for some games. The folk that pay for the tailgating only sites they may have stipulations as to purchasing game tickets ( I am not aware of it.) FYI for clarification purposes individuals in the RV sites ... Mini Dome , Reserve RV area near the Stadium & Ballantine site purchase their site, must purchase Season book (s) and if they tow a vehicle must purchase a Pass for the vehicle. These folk do this to support financially in my opinion, the University, Team, Band, and to experience tailgating before and returning to their site after the game. Now, scheduling Alcorn for Homecoming Game many folk talked about the scheduling which appeared not to be thought out as you stated!! Hopeful, SU will do better in 2025 !!
GREED is SU Athletic Department and director's GOAL! It is a disgrace because I am a season ticket holder and had to pay an additional $120.00 to find a parking spot on campus at one of the buildings not connected to University. IT IS A SHAME! Soon, they will have no one at the game because everyone is aware of what's going on! THE FOOTBALL TEAM (STUDENTS) NEED OUR SUPPORT!
FYI..Just to add alittle information.... Reserve Parking folk and RV'ers Parking at the Mini Dome and Ballentine Lot are required to purchase Season Books. Also, if the Rv'er tow a vehicle behind their RV, they have to pay an additional fee ,for a parking space for the vehicle. None of these things are cheap however, they elect to support the University, the Team, Band as well as participating in the tailgating experience!!
@ I agree totally. I wasn’t directing what I was saying specifically at RV parking, there’s a ridiculous amount of other people parking on campus and not going in the game. A friend from elementary school said he tailgates at every Southern home game and hasn’t been inside one since 2005 and he doesn’t have an RV. Just think about that for a moment.
I was really confused with the comments in this post. I too am a season book holder. Those of us that are season-bookers have and want different parking and/or tailgating desires. So, automatically giving tailgating to season-bookers wouldn't be wise one because most don't tailgate at all; some tailgate on a small scale by their vehicle; some tailgate as a larger group (family, organization, etc..) a specified location away from their particular parking space; some are RV owners are park and tailgate there; etc.. So, parking is sold separate from game tickets, as is tailgating spots. As for more people tailgating than going to the game, there were years as far back as Pete's later years when that was the case; people making a statement to administration to not be in their seats. But, especially last year, folks don't come on campus at all if they aren't going in the game. The parking lot be as empty as the stadium and most of the people show up close to game time. So, there aren't nearly as many people actually on campus tailgating at games after HC. For those games, you can tailgate darn near anywhere you want to because there just isn't anyone worth talking about tailgating at those games. Long-short, my eyes hasn't seen in recent years what you are expressing in this particular video. Some of that was still in place during Odums. But, folks stopped coming under Dooley.
@edwinmoore357 Maybe we have different perspectives but it’s definitely a thing. It may not have been as obvious and apparent for games when kickoff is moved up but it’s definitely a thing (especially earlier in the season). I have walked around campus prior to kickoff and people are just chilling. In the stadium for the last home game I could hear music from the people outside the stadium tailgating. I put this in another response. I have a friend from elementary school that told me he comes to every home game and tailgates with a group. He hasn’t been inside AW Mumford Stadium since 2005. I know it’s a thing because I know people like him.
@coach67sportstv The game we heard music outside the stadium, the stadium was sparse along with the parking lot. There weren't many folks outside the stadium. Look at it this way. The folks that aren't coming in the game don't add any value to the game. They are there for something other than the game atmosphere. But, we got some money out of them to invest in the program whether it is game ticket, parking ticket, tailgate space ticket, etc.. If they didn't come, that would be even less money for the program and even further away from returning to being the best program. You can hire all the really good coaches. But if you don't have the ballers and the money is thin, you ain't gone win. Not buying tickets and not getting into the game is contributing to succeeding in creating a losing program. Not supporting doesn't yield championships. It pushes us away from being a champion even more than if we supported regardless.
@edwinmoore....I agree with you being confused with the Season book holders getting some kind of passes. Some discounts on parking a vehicle if the RV person is towing the vehicle. After all they are required to purchase along with the RV site Season tickets that would be more than fair !
@user-hm5dw4ov9j Yeah, it's too much variety in what seaon-book holders want for parking and/or tailgating to automatically include parking and/or tailgating into our cost. And, there are various types of tailgaters from individuals to large groups.
The problem is you can't have people just show up on campus and just want to tailgate. Do surveys to find out why they're not going in. There should be a migration to the stadium before the game starts.
@@MrShelby12 I totally agree. That’s a lot of surveys to do, I don’t know if SU doing that many surveys. There’s usually a migration towards the stadium near kickoff but a lot of people are still just partying and having fun.
