Pink Salmon run in Puget Sound river during odd years. Often times more than a million of these salmon will be pushing up into regional rivers such as the Skagit, Snohomish, Duwamish and Green, and Puyallup Rivers. In the estuaries they can be easily targeted by casting "Humpie" or Pink Salmon twitching jigs that consist of a pink jig head with a pink hoochie glued onto it. The best times to target Pink Salmon in the estuaries and regions rivers is during late August and early September.

One of my favorite fisheries. Catch and release on light gear till your arm gets sore.
Pretty cool to see you that excited and having fun catching fish. Your usually so calm and matter of fact in your videos.
It is great seeing you have so much fun
This was fantastic! Great job, great show!!!
This is one of your best videos!!!!!!
Warm weather, light gear, plentiful numbers, what more could a guy ask for?
Another re- watch for me just cause it looks like fun!
What a fun time with catch and release. It is amazing to me that you enjoy fishing so much with all that you do it.
Looks so fun
Wow, that looks like a lot of fun.
Man, that looks like something that needs to be a part of my life.
Love fishing for Pinks on that river!! Fun for my son as well. No stop action!! Great way for them to learn.
We just hammered out two limits down there today! Very nice!
AND saw a guy with one of your shirts!
Dang I'm jealous bro look like a beautiful day out there, I like how you sight fish for that first salmon
How does this man find the fish all the time. nice work man.
Awesome!😀
Just got my first limit of this season on the river the other day..... This just makes me not want to wait to do it again
In the spring of the year here in the U.P. I usually troll for coho jacks until I see them surface, then I will sneak up on them and cast into the schools and have similar success to your's (as you just demonstrated). Usually we cheat in that we will tip our 1/4 ounce jigs with 1/2 a crawler or a piece of coho belly cutbait. There's no catch and release here in this fishery because the coho salmon are the best eating fish in the lake and they are highly coveted. I'll have to try gluing a Hoochie to my jigs to see how that works here.
Hey Man, Curious what landing net you recommend for fishing Coho/Kings out of kayak?
I use Ranger nets rubber coated nylon 25"x25" nets
Thanks for sharing! Looks like a ton of fun!
How far do you cast your jigs and how deep do they sink? I bought some from fred myers and they just don't cast very far or sink very fast; it just feels really bad to use them. (I did buy some from your link so I guess I will experiment with the different weights)
I cast to where I see fish. Sometimes close, sometime 30 yards away. I don't let them sink more than a couple feet.
@@spiltmilt thanks! I guess my jog head was probably too light then. I think I was only casting maybe 30 ft Max.
its that time of the year again almost!! will we see out here again on the great river!? ill be in my Clackacraft lookin for ya! also, how do you have your go pro or whatever set up? looking for a sweet set up for my drifter
I too love the catch and release. Thank you. Is that required in your area or just your decision?
My decision. I have plenty of fish in the freezer
pinks jumping all around you... surprised did not jump into your yak
Do you tie your own jigs? Maybe an episode on how to tie a them, if you do. Looked like a day to remember for sure
I'll work on that shortly
I use my ultra light ugly stick for pinks, super fun. chrome fish are still good eating, but fully turned fish not at all.
Which spot you launched kayak from?
What jig weight do you use? Looks so much fun. Thanks
1/4 oz
This is amazing!! Great job! What bait/lures are you using?

What a hoot!! Take a snoopy rod out next time 😉
Nice catch & release. Those Pinkies are fresh from the ocean. did you catch any Pinky with sealice?..
they all had sea lice
At the same time that you were doing this vid, I was on the banks of the mid- Skagit, doing the same but with a float, over a jig, steelhead style
Scenery much more rural.
Don't need heavy duty gear. I've caught them on everything from trout rods, to a 4/5 fly rod.
Marked over 100 fish, not counting the C and R fish.
I do the same as well Bobber Fishing for Pink Salmon & Steelhead

Great action... Where did you launch your kayak from?
Sweet video. It’s so cool to see and hear the pure joy even for a seasoned fisherman like you. I’ve bank fished the Duwamish but just started paddleboard fishing and thinking about trying the estuary. Is there a lot of boat traffic? Also where do you drop in with your kayak? Is parking safe there? Thanks. Keep up the great videos.
Duwamish River Boat Launch. I was about 1 mile downstream. Parking is never safe in this part of Seattle so don't leave valuables in the car.
Is pink salmon good to eat? Haven’t caught one to try it yet
Very good when they are silver. Not so much when they are green/brown/yellow
Smoking / baked with Teriyaki are fantastic!
@@mikaelrantaoutdoors that’s with all salmon😂
@@landonf4066 haha you’re not wrong. I have caught brown king salmon with orange fillets but usually pretty rare
Do you keep Pinks?
I don't but i have a freezer full of kings and sockeye
Guarantee they are on meth with all the trailers living on that river
How dare they steal Boeing's thunder!
Which river is this , near seattle?
Duwamish
@@spiltmilt I'd really like to get more info on this when where etc. Thanks again
@@spiltmilt Looks like you're near the West Seattle/Spokane Street bridge area... where did you launch from?
We’re you fishing the incoming tide?
Yes
Excellent video! Excellent fishery! In downtown Seattle? Who'da thunk-it! I'm very surprised that its not wall to wall combat fishing! I really enjoyed this video! Thank you for sharing what most of us can only dream about! 😂👍
Why not keep a couple?
I'm on the road and have a freezer full of salmon
Pinks are among the least appetizing of Salmon especially in the rivers
@@micahgelfand8282 Fresh ocean pink is as good as any salmon, but they don't keep well.
pinks are some of my favorite fish to catch! love going down to a little medium or light and having a blast with them. like you said, they are squirelly as hell and imo fight the hardest pound for pound of all salmon. great video! over here on vancouver island they run every year too! EDIT - also, they eat really well if you catch em while they're chrome like that! they get a bad rap but they are honestly delicious!
Silver pink salmon are probably my favorite salmon to eat! Sadly the meat turns to crap pretty quickly once they start to get that green color
Green?? I've had silver pink salmon in the back of my kayak for a few hours after bleeding to when they hit the cooler in my car and the meat turns out just fine later.
@@slacktide_angler yup they get a greenish tint above their lateral line the closer they get to the spawn. That then fades to brownish/yellow in my experience. Any silver salmon probably will have good meat though
@@mikaelrantaoutdoors oh gotcha, I thought you were referring to a silver pink turning green after being killed. But yeah, spawners changing colors probably better off let go to spawn.
This is ridiculous! Lol
I clicked away from a lady in a bikini for this, it better be good.
