Aaron you're a godsend for art students, I can't thank you enough for the invaluable info and tools you provide, you rock man 🤘
I am a 3d animator
RIZWANMATION
You know what they meant
The one man really qualified to do this tutorial.
Something I learned after trying to draw Disney characters a few times: You can't just copy one drawing and think you've learned how to draw a character. They look different from every angle and there's a tremendous range of facial expressions, which you can really see in this video.
There some disney characters I've tried drawing and nailed. Some made me wanna tear my hair out. There is a tutorial on how to draw ariel. The only thing that threw me off was the eyes and hair
That's what I hate about basic "how to draw videos". Aaron does it _right_ because he explains why things are and how to do.
Also if you draw them so often, you begin to do it from memory
@ 13:00 - I can definitely agree with you there. She doesn’t even look like a lion until you add the ears. I kept telling myself she looks like a bear until then.
Also, if you don’t mind me saying so, the kind of skill it takes to make two very similar characters distinct is intimidating. You and every other animator who’s worked on projects like the lion king are scary good.
Damn, every pen stroke is perfect 😱 this is so impressive!!!
PS: you have a really nice, soothing voice! You could be a voice actor yourself 👍
@MageBurger amazing! And actually no surprise 😄 he's really good!
Blimey 25 years old! You don’t always realise how much time has passed until a random bit of information brings it home hard for you.
Would you mind linking the pencil you used for these? The sketch quality looked so smooth and professional! Granted, the fact it was in the hands of a professional probably helped, haha.
Thanks! I used a Black Prismacolor
"Blimey 25 years old!"
Ha, my reaction exactly!
The Lion King shaped my life way more than any other influence my whole upbringing. At 32 now I still have hakuna matata help me not taking everything too seriously in life, I kind of discovered my love for singing with both the lion king and pocahontas, and my first ever wish to learn to draw came from how intense my love and fascination for the lion king was and still is. I was just spellbound by how art could bridge reality and cartoon with real anatomy and I remember just awestruck staring at how everything was moving like shoulder blades, toes, ears, how gravity was going on, size differences, all of it. The magic is still there for me even! Before the lion king all animated main character animals walked on 2 legs pretty much, like Baloo (with Bagheera as the exception if he can count as a main character) so it will probably forever be my all time favorite movie because of how huge that change and feel was for me. I feel so lucky that I was old enough to remember when the world was gifted this masterpiece but young enough to get so much positive from it. 💜 Thank you for this tutorial! And thank you for all the hard work you and everyone else put into all those hours back then. It means the world to so many of my generation. 💙
Thank you for these words!
it`s great, thank you
Can you do Sarabi?
Rim Chan He did not animate Sarabi.
@@grinningcheshire7695 yes but maybe he can draw her or something (sry for bad english)
She's so beautiful! You're such a great teacher, your RUclips channel is a blessing! :)
What kind of pencil do you use?? It's so smooth!
This was a black Prismacolor
@@AaronBlaiseArt oh! I have one 😅😅 thank you for answering!❤️ I know you get that question alot!
I had thought it was charcoal, just by the smoothness^^
I'll have to work on my technique :)
Hiya Aaron. Today is my 61st birthday; was feeling the age a bit; so I went to my UTube videos emails and saw that you'd posted another video. To my happy surprise it was a sketching video. I watched it & it and it put a smile on my face. Thank you so much for doing that, Aaron. I love all your videos & have learned a lot from them ! Hope you'll post more pure sketching videos, too.
Your loyal fan;
~Sketchcat
Thank you so much!! You made my day! Happy, Happy Birthday!!
@@AaronBlaiseArt Thank you, Aaron for your warm reply, I really appreciated it..! Please have a great day, too. I look forward to your next sketch-up video...maybe of the lion - "Scar".
I was trying to draw her in my childhood after watching the movie so many times and it never went close to original. Now I see how it really should be from the first hands. Thank you!
You have such confidence with your pencil strokes! I feel like I learned a bit just from watching this video, so thank you for that. :D
Me: *draws*
Friend: What are you drawing?
Me: You’ll see..
Friend: Why are you drawing a circle?
Me: *yoU’lL.. sEE..*
*WHAT IS THIS LEFT HANDED SORCERY*
I don't know if it's possible, but this Nala looks even prettier 😍
AliraSK furry
Eredon no I think it’s just the water that’s turning the frogs gay
Blüê Ønÿx its turning the “freaking” frogs gay, do you understand!?
Yeah! What a beautiful character
This should've been the style of the remake
Please do Simba next!
YUSSSS
Having Aaron draw a character he didn't work on? Interesting. Though I could be wrong.
He did not work on Simba.
@@grinningcheshire7695- he did help work on adult simba
Hoshu Films yes. He did not directly work on him.
You should do Koda, plz
Koda?
Nala is an original, classic, Disney character.
Koda is an oc created by TC-96 on Deviantart
They probably mean Koda from brother bear.
@@NightTheKittenn ohhhh
@@NightTheKittenn Dude, I have not heard that name in a long time. Thank you.
Allyson Midgley yes I did. I directed the movie
I knew that official Disney "how to draw the characters" book was a lie.
I think I've fallen in love with this channel already 😍
I want to be a character designer too! It's so cool I'm study for that 😄❤️ You drew her so cute I really like it 💙
I was 10 when I seen LK in theaters in 94. It was my absolute world for years and years afterward. It's my favorite Disney movie period, my favorite cartoon period. So needless to say, I am *super* excited for the remake coming out next month. :D Thank you for this tutorial! I will definitely practice it in future. :D I need to get back into drawing lions again. I would love to see more LK tutorials. :)
As an aspiring animator this is SO helpful! Nala looks so cute ^^
Right before this I had a lionking collectable sticker honeynut cherios fornthe live acrion version XD

The Lion King was the first movie my mum took me to see at the cinema back in 1994 then when I was 7 years old! You couldn't wish for a better first movie as a child I think. It's just awesome and so are you! ;)
Cheers!
who knew that i would one day idolize the designer of one of my all time favorite disney characters?
Your channel deserves more recognition!
Godlike.
"Remember, first I make a circle, then I draw as I see best because my knowledge is beyond mortal comprehension". XD Really, with that much experience I don't think you ever need any construction. It's all in your head now.
To me you'll always be The superhero, Master Blaise.
I was 3 when my Dad brought me home the Lion King VHS! It’s a vague childhood memory I love, receiving my first Disney movie. It’s fun to know that Nala was loosely based on a little girl who was about my age and I really appreciate your RUclips channel as a now-adult artist, Aaron!
If Nala was a human, I would ask to shave before our date
If Nala was a Naruto character, her ninjutsu would be infinite hair grow
If Nala was a Re:zero Mabeast, then the white whale and Puck have nothing on her
But in here she is just Nala, the cutest lion in the world
I love the lion king and the lion guard!!! Thanks for the tutorial. Can you do Kovu or Kiara from lion king 2?
Aaron drawing Nala so consistant he accidentally drew her animated, meanwhile im here animating a bouncing ball :P You are teaching me more then you could ever realise! I'm really greatfull for the videos!
You know, I've been drawing Lion King fanart, on and off, for... maybe a bit over ten years now? And I've legitimately never realised, until you mentioned it, just how essential the cheeks are to the look. I think that must be why I've always struggled with Nala in particular; my favourite character from the movie, yet I could never quite get her right... and now I finally understand why that was.
This was really interesting and helpful; thanks so much for sharing! And if I may say it, I absolutely love Nala, and the design you gave her; she looks quite perfect :D
Thanks so much :)
I bought DVD maybe a year ago. Amazing and creative art and cartoons! Thanks for the great memories!
Why tho?
I got a lion king cereal box ad
Idk Anymore duuudddeee same!
What kind of pencil did you use for drawing? Please and Thanks!

He replied in another comment^^
Just so you know, there's may levels of graphite, and it's easy to find the one type your most comfortable using because they all re pretty cheap if you shop online. [ A little advice, Never go to a craft store for brushes or pencils unless u _really_ wat to see / purchase em' in person, they are EX-PEN-SIVE ]

it took him 15 min to draw three drawling, its takes me an hour just to draw the circle
You make it look so easy! I'm gonna keep practicing!
This is amazing! Thank you for sharing you wonderful work. I love drawing, especially animals; you're a source of inspiration to me, so thank you a lot again 😊
I was born about 3 months after The Lion King came out. Awesome tutorial though.
When I watch the lion king I will remember this.
Video is on 0:01 and i already gave the video a like cause how can you not like this video?
This was so wholesome, I'm R resisting the urge to find out a pencil and paper and having a go!! Xx
As adorable as this lion cub is.. It doesn't look like Nala lol
Damn!!! Sir you make it look so easy to draw her or to draw anything
Can you draw scar from lion king?
I see a lot of people wanting him to draw other characters from the movie. I'd rather see him draw Yao, Rajah, or even Jasmine. He did work in Mark Henn's unit. Am I right on that one, Mr. Blaise?
You are right! I've got more up my sleeve.

Thanks for the drawing lesson
Hey nala I did a lot of drawings from the lion king.
I love Aaron’s art it’s so customizable or custom it’s so free and loose yet sharp it makes me think plus I love Nala she so cute and expressive
Fun and helpful tutorial! Thanks Aaron :)
I literaly got an ad about the lion king before I watched this video.
Btw Thank You this really helped!
Mufasa would be nice to see too. I have been sketching simba, he looks easier than other characters.
thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with all us, Mr. Blaise
I have just been mesmerized
How do you feel about the remake, Aaron?
Whats that pencil? Ive never seen a colored pencil so pigmented
A
black Prismacolor.
Nice job on Nala, Aaron. Do you think you could draw Joanna from Rescuers Down Under since you said in a live stream that you worked on the film?
If always wondered, when Disney animators do drawings of the characters years later(the guy who did Simba on DA posted some of Simba) they look a whole lot different than in the movie. Is this a artistic choice or did Disney have y'all follow strict guidelines?
Fifty million... one hundred thousand... either way, it's plain from the way your pencil skims over the paper that you've had a lot of experience! Great video, and great insight to character design. Thanks!
this is what i really love. you don't just colour her an other colour, like in many many movies, but you work with softer lines and boom. everyone can tell that she's a girl. nowadays sadly in many movies, they just give the girl characters (like in HTTYD) lighter colours, and it doesn't matter how much i like the movie itself, i just hate the lightfury's look
*starts with circle* Oof I’ve failed *Easy Lines* ...Yeah no xDdd
The Lion King is my favourite movie of all time!! 🙌🙌😁😁thanks for working in one of my favorite movie of all time Mr. Blaise!!! Also can't wait for the live-action one!!
I really love the original animated Lion King movies, it’s one of my biggest inspirations as a young artist and animator, and has my favorite Disney songs; Be Prepared and My Lullaby
I like you nala.
I would be so proud to know that I was the inspiration for Nala if I was your daughter, she must be feeling so good about that ^^
Goly, this is very pleasant!! You capture the style of the movie so nicely, it's very pretty 💙
Nala is so beautiful. Most favourite Disney character design.
One day I wanna go to America and make my own Lion king Movie, 'Kopa's Story!".
Pięknie!Super!!!
I have a question about the lion king, when disney remastered the film why did they reanimate mufasa's smile in the beginning of the film and the singing crocs?
Amazing 🩵 Named my daughter nahlaa after this movie!!
“ver ver “
Thank you for the anatomy tips! its helped me alot while i'm trying to draw a lion cub :)
WHO'S THE MONSTER THAT GAVE THIS A DOWNVOTE??
Thank you, this was so pretty and inspiring! Time to draw some Lion King fanart :D
If alot of animator are working on a groject how do they keep everything looking the same like the head many be bigger than the other pictures when all of them are put together
So cute
And me☹
thank you Aaron, love this!
You productio The Lion king?

Can you tell which pencils do you use for drawing this?
Hey, Aaron. Did you consult on the new Lion King movie out this month?

Any body else get mad when his hands cover the drawing!! #to hard to learn
Let me ask you a better question, why’s Nala?
Wonder what pencil hes using?
It's not really easy but I think it's a good challenge
Can you draw characters from Pocahontas and Mulan
Did scar try to marry Nala?
Yes yes he did in one of the deleted scenes
Wonderful!
39 people tried it. They got stuck at the circle.
What type of pencil are you using?
