You prolly dont give a damn but does any of you know a method to get back into an instagram account? I was stupid lost the login password. I would appreciate any tips you can offer me!
Brother bear was my childhood. Wow. Thanks. That’s awesome. I learned how to draw the Disney bears by copying the cover of the dvd case over and over again. Awesome! That’s crazy.
@@user-yx9xn2ub5f Pretty naive to think that money hasn't always been the driving factor. Show me where it was that you think Disney specifically stopped caring about art, because all of their films are packed to the brim with talent regardless of the profit they turned.
Ossama You rly don’t understand animation, at all. Don’t you know that 2D animation is important if you want to produce 3D animation? Have you seen the concepts art behind cars, moana, zootopia and other disney 3D films? Do some research before you talk about animation in front of animation artists like us
Ossama have you no idea the amount of time and effort it takes to make animation, or the amount of skills you have to do to make is even the slightest bit realistic, because people regardless of the amount of money it takes to make animations actually care about what they made if they didn’t it wouldn’t look as good as it does
The fact you took the time to learn to sketch them in a non-stereotyped way is awesome. I love Mulan and really appreciate getting to see this stuff. Do you have any plans to digitize these? Even if only to save them should something unfortunate happen to them.
9:50 that's the beauty of having your art on paper... sure digital, you can save it, but once you're gone - who's going to maintain those files, keep up with them? Unless uploaded to some special cloud... I don't know what the future holds for art as a whole but I know it will NEVER have the special and literal FEEL of physical artwork! Thank you SO much for sharing your work! I loved it so much as a child, and I now love and respect it so much more so as an adult!
Wow! This channel is pure GOLD! Thank you so much for share with us your talent! Is amazing to see how Mulan movie looked like before we even watched it. God bless you, artist!
This warmed my heart to see - I've always loved behind the scenes, and Mulan is such an incredible movie, along with that Raja sketch and Beauty and the beast. I'm in awe of when you flip through the animation. Thank you for sharing the process too - I didn't realise there was a 'clean-up' artist.
Thank you so much for showing this! I've been struggling recently with whether I want to focus on storyboarding or animating and every time I see your videos I feel that spark that I felt the first time I knew I wanted to be an animator. This video couldn't have come at a better time for me. I already have a stack of papers beside me ready to draw some characters!! Thank you for inspiring me to become an animator!
Awesome! I love hearing you talk through your thinking and the processes when designing the characters. Gives great insight into the industry back then, as well as great ideas for when I'm creating my own characters for work and personal projects! Thanks guys. Inspiring as always.
As a 90s kid who grew up on all the Disney movies, this was an absolute real treat seeing these. A treasure trove. I feel like I know the film even more now. Thank you Aaron for your amazing art. I thought I was inspired by Disney but actually you inspired me so much as a child! And now it's full circle, I'm commenting on this video as a grown adult...
This is probably the greatest video I've ever watched! I love Milan and learning the multiple processes an plans that were put out before the movie was even in production is fascinating! I always wanted to do Disney character designs and this video inspires me to practice more on my anatomy and facial expressions. I'll never live the dream of designing the characters but it won't stop me from trying.
I love these, your work and design philsophy reminds me of what Chien Yi was talking about in that character design lecture he had what I believe was over 15 years ago, where he mentioned to know and respect your subject. Just the amount of studies to capture Chinese faces shows that philosophy in what it seems to be the Disney philosophy of really getting to know your subject and/or a given culture.
I was in elementary school when I remember watching Mulan in theaters. After all these years it's amazing how I could see these sketches from the movie.👍Thank you for this!
Thanks Aaron. You are one of the best talented Artist known. This is what we call "The Golden Age of Animation" it comes back again time is circular. Being an artist and animator i can understand your feeling .Hand drawn Artworks will always has its golden value.Computer drawings and technology has an indirect approach of the original Art Works missing the direct human touch. Freehand drawings will always be eternal masterpieces which comes directly form the soul of the Artist. Again thanks for sharing these precious artworks.
So interesting to see all the thought, time, and hard work that went into Mulan (obviously into the other films, but this video was mostly Mulan). I love seeing and reading about how characters develop into the final version. The details about Yao were great! I would love to know the story behind his eye.
That is insane, seeing your character now has trigger memories that I forgotten when I was like 6, I remember watching Malun for the first time. When I saw the guy that warn China ( guy with the torch at the beginning of the movie) and seeing Yao. I always had this feeling that from those two there was suppose to be a character that was like them. As crazy as it sounds, I also had a bad feeling they could of been a bad guy more then a hero. But seeing your character omg... it just clicked. O-O I had no idea you did Yao tho, that's amazing! It a shame tho that your character didn't get into the movie, I really like his character design and the concept of him being a villain, he looked like he would of been fun to see in action. :c Also I can imagine that gift, and I am glad the movies been lasted this long. I hope someday that Disney would bring back handdrawn again, but in digital since it is easier. Btw you look so different in 2017 compare to 2021/2022... when I found your channel. I really like your ponytail, it looks good on ya. :3 Anyway I know this is old, but thanks for sharing.

This is all so cool! I am incredibly fascinated by the drawings and ideas about the Mulan villain (is it Bal Gong or Bai Gong? The audio made it a bit difficult to make out). The story would certainly have been different. I also love the story behind Yao's design and your bulldog puppy, it's awesome how real life can inspire things like character designs.
Dude! These are all amazing! Definitely was my dream job my whole life but I never thought I could become an animator. I'm trying to teach myself with your videos and going to college for it now too!
Rough Beast would be pretty much everyone on this channels finals. When you say rough, did she actually change/warp proportions or is she like an inker? Aladdin was my favourite!
Your work is EPIC! Absolutely love your style(s) and always wanted to be a Disney animator like yourself. But alas, life took me in different direction. ;)
Just amazing! My dream was to animate with you guys once I finished school... until Eisner shut down classical animation... I hope you do more of these videos. Very cool
Anyone else feel as though Mulan would have been a far more interesting adult animated film than a kid's film? The traitorous General plus the storyboards that develope Shan Yu's character showed a lot of potential for this.
It’s such a shame that your character was never used. The designs and sketches of him are brilliant!
This is as *rare* as it gets...
ambiguous while other disney artists who work on the same team will do the same thing! It rly depends on what the director

Yeah, the designs were fantastic, but I can see why they cut him. The approved villain was better, I think, for Mulan’s journey.
6:27 "these are a little boring im gonna jump throught these kinda quickly"
*litteraly every animation student* : NO PLEASE SHOW US
dude, that was too realistic drawing, that style was more for an pure action movie more than of a humor and adventure like the final sketches.

probably wouldnt want that image distilled in young kids. makes me wonder what the movie would have ended up like it it was for audiences a bit older.
