Pull the battery connection and wait 45 minutes to let all capacitors in the system discharge before removing the air bag module.

OK Daniel, Could you please list the part number where you purchase your switch and what you paid for it.. That would be helpful to anyone (like me) trying to find the same switch for replacement. Bill Hamilton

Daniel, prior to replacing switch. Did you check other possible reasons for the cruise not to work or did you just take chance it was the switch? Mine has quit working, but mine quit while I was driving and cruise was engaged. Now it will not work at all.

I'll be honest with you... I did not troubleshoot it. The problem started by difficulty turning the system on with the button. I would press harder on the button and it would activate. Eventually, I had to press harder and harder... until it stopped altogether. Now... the kicker is that even though I made it sound like the problem is fixed in the video; it did not actually solve it. So go figure. I haven't pursued it any further.

didn't you disconnect the battery terminals before removing the airbag cover? i always do that cause i dont want an airbag to the face lol

I have a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT 3.8L V6 and it looks identical to your cruise control part; however, the steering wheel looks quite different. I know that you have no way knowing 100%, but do you think the swap will be as easy as yours? (What was the part number? That looked almost as simple as swapping my turn signal [I had to manually switch off the right turn every and the left turn about half the time... it has been a year on and I still usually turn off the turn signal manually before the automatic shutoff clicks.] I had the new0to-me car for six years before I got around to fixing it. A $20 part and four screws was all it took to fix that problem.)
The cruise control worked fine until I had to swap vehicles with the missus for two weeks and, somewhere in there, she or one of the boys had an issue with an exploding root beer. The cruise hasn't worked for more than 30 seconds since then... some days, I think it is working and so I set it as I hop on the interstate. As I roll along, I suddenly notice that everyone (even the grannies) are passing me. Then, and only then, do I remember that I need to use my foot.
Today is the first time I have looked to see what it would take to replace (just the on/of & set) switch because my wife asked me what I want for Christmas. I am going to ask for a new cruise control switch... maybe even the pair since it looks like everything will be exposed and I have no idea if there's root beer in the (resume & accel) switch... but I will admit that I am intimidated by the airbag much the same as you seem to be. I've been working on and in computers for 23 years and I am not afraid of anything. Of course, there's nothing in a computer that could possibly shoot out at me at 200+ mph!
I am rambling... my apologies... but I do have one request if you find yourself tinkering around under a Dodge electric driver's seat: could you show us the gears and other odds & ends under there? I haven't taken my seat out, but I have watched quite a few videoes on youtube (that were very little help) and tried looking up the parts I might need to get her moving again. It worked before I loaned the van to my wife; it didn't when I got it back. Maybe there's root beer under there?
Thanks so much for this video!

Thanks for the video. I was looking for something to help me repair the cruise control on my 2005 caravan. It looks like it is the same setup. I love repair videos on You Tube.

You should add that you need to pull the airbag fuse so it does not accidentally go off. They make me nervous too.

Good point. .. I'll have to go in there again soon and definitely point that out!

+Carl Cunningham I've read that not only should the fuse be pulled, (or battery disconnected), but that you should wait a minimum of 8 minutes to allow the capacitors to drain. This is marked "IMPORTANT". Only after 8 minutes should the steering wheel be worked on.
