I once did a listening where it stated names of 9 artists as examples for different subtopics. And then a question came up where i had to connect subtopics to those names. So I believe, sometimes names and years can be important, so at least note the initials like if it says Van Gogh, Michelangelo and Leonardo Da Vinci, you can note that as "VG, M, LDV" so that you don't get those mixed up when the question comes up.

I used to scribble everywhere so my notes didn't help me lol For Speaking, use the speaking templates because your score won't get deducted. Also try to speak continuously, but avoid repetition. For Writing, you should refrain from using templates. Use transition words, and pay attention to the structure.

I would suggest another way for taking notes for everyone for discussion: make a T chart and on one side write i.e. student and on other side advisor ( discussion between student and advisor). for lecture: make a T chart and on one side write i.e. major and on other side minor (this is taking major and minor detail of the lecture).
I do get extremely confused and lost if I take notes while listening, but your video was so amazingly helpful! Even though I can't take notes, now I know how to properly target what I listen to while I take "mental notes"! Thank you so much for this amazing class! For your question on my practice, To get higher score, what you ought to do is just to practice practice and practice. I used materials from ETS and this channel(TST prep)
11:55 I've felt that they do sometimes ask about details and if you've missed that word in the lecture or what it was there for, it might cost you a question. I try to note every new detail mentioned and connect it to the ongoing discussion. Simultaneously taking notes leads to this mistake, so I've been trying to make notes more concise.

I really can't get into note taking for some reason~ I've been practicing and I'll take my test soon, but in every mock test I do perfectly well without any notes. it's just too confusing and distracting for me. maybe it doesn't work for everyone, but I really appreciate all the resources on this channel!

Could you please explain time management for the listening? I believe its 41-57 minutes for a total 28-39 questions. Is the total amount of minutes divided into several parts? Thank you!
It's kind of weird. When I do take down the notes, I do not look at them at all, but I definitely do a lot better this way than when I don't take down the notes.
It depends on whether or not you think it will be important. However, I usually do it out of habit. In general, on the TOEFL, they ask more about ideas than actual specific dates, so they probably will not ask you to recall an exact number.

Hi koreanwannab ow and yes, you are allowed to erase your notes through the test. That’s why it’s important to have an erasable marker. You cannot have multiple whiteboards or multiple transparency sheets, but you can reuse them as many times as you need during the test.
You would have to work with a teacher to get a more specific answer, but everyone has strengths and weaknesses. It looks like you need to work on improving your general comprehension first. Notetaking is helpful, but it is also optional. If it takes you too long or distracts you, then you might want to avoid taking notes.

I want all of you to know that I got my TOEFL score today 104/120 (R28,L26,S23,W27).One thing I want to say is, use as much help as Mr. Josh mentions in his videos.

Can you take notes on the computer or you should use pen and paper?
If you take the TOEFL iBT test at a test center, you will get scratch paper for taking notes. For TOEFL Home Edition, you will take notes on a small whiteboard. You will never type notes on a computer.

Are you allowed to erase notes in between listening sections in home exams?

koreanwannab ow and yes, you are allowed to erase your notes through the test. That’s why it’s important to have an erasable marker. You cannot have multiple whiteboards or multiple transparency sheets, but you can reuse them as many times as you need during the test.
How do I take notes during the exam? Do I get a pen and paper.
The test center administrator will provide you with pencils and scratch paper.

I've experienced both ways: taking notes/ not taking notes But in both ways my score was stick to 24. why is the problem?
You would have to work with a teacher to get a more specific answer, but everyone has strengths and weaknesses. It looks like you need to work on improving your general comprehension first. can I take the Toefl test when I'm under age?
I am pretty sure anyone over the age of 12 can take the TOEFL test. I would just double-check at ETS' official website - www.ets.org/toefl

Hi there and thank you for commenting. Students at lower levels of proficiency should work on the basics of English first. If you don't understand academic passages, you probably should not take the test now. Instead, you should invest your time and money in improving your English level first before moving ahead with the TOEFL.
