Hey Nick it's Stuart Small (I'm currently still with PnG) how can I have a quick chat about the roundabout at the bottom of Barbers avenue Rotherham turning 3rd exit, had a dispute with an examiner today?

Just a question please if I may mate. I'm a driver of thirty years and I have my motorcycle test tomorrow but this roundabout is concerning me. At 6m50 when you're on the roundabout making your way around to exit off onto the A6123 Mangham Road, normal roundabout rules would dictate that you indicate right whilst going around the roundabout as the Mangham Road exit is past the '12 o clock' Position. But the middle lane road marking shows only a straight ahead arrow with no right hand arrow on it. And you only appear to indicate as you exit onto Mangham Road. I'm confused 😕 Many thanks. Gaz

My interpretation of the manoeuvre at 6m50s is that Mangham Road back to the test centre is the 12 o'clock exit and the A633 to Parkgate is a second left hand option. However on this type of spiral roundabout your lane positioning is more important than your signalling. If I had indicated right into the roundabout, heading for the test centre, it could have been misunderstood as to mean I was trying to go to Rawmarsh via the 4th exit. A633 north. You will notice that once I picked my lane on the way past Starbucks and the sofa place, I didn't leave my lane all the way through the roundabout. Lane 2 on the approach became lane 2 on the roundabout and then as we passed A633 south, it spiralled out to become lane 1 without me having to cross any lines. So no signal was necessary, I wasn't changing direction I was following my road ahead. In fact the signal off the roundabout wasn't strictly necessary because my lane could only go in one direction but it cost me nothing to do and wasn't misleading so there is no reason not to.
Does this answer your question? If not feel free to contact me again. If so, good luck on the mod2!

@@RPSDrivenElectric Many thanks for your reply. I really appreciate it.
I actually agree with you and I wouldn't indicate either for the same reasons you wouldn't. The reason I ask the question as on the pictorial sign approaching the roundabout, the Mangham Road exit is third exit and way past the 12 o clock position. And obvs the rules state at 'Most' Roundabouts anything past the 12 o clock position is generally right hand lane and right hand indication. Unless road markings state differently, which I guess, in this case, they do, having just the straight ahead arrow.
I think I'm just massively overthinking it as I'd hate to fail on something like not indicating when I should be.
That clears it up thanks mate and I appreciate your well wishes cheers!

@@Gazza653 No problem. Good luck on your test, remember that its your trainer who says you are safe, the Examiner is just checking that you are! Its a safety check.

Rotherham B.C. have not got a clue on road lay outs, centenary way opposite the bus station is a joke, you have to move over to the right lane to go straight on, but in this lane you can also turn left onto a 633? does not make sense. And as for the new lay out on welgate is a total cock up, no lines in the middle of the road, it feels like you are driving the wrong way on a one way road. Clueless people who just sit on their arses and know nothing. Rant over.
