Great presentation. You got the facts straight. Parker's story is still relevant today as ate her writings. Being an essayist, she is not as well-known as novelists but is deserving of a place in American literary history all the same. Bravo!
A captivating and informative presentation that does justice to the enduring relevance of Dorothy Parker's life and work. Her keen intellect and sharp wit shine through her essays, ensuring her place in the pantheon of American literary greats. Brava indeed!
Indeed, and her bff Robert C. Benchley was right along side with his New Yorker and Liberty columns he was very much in advance of the times. Another notable action much ahead of the times, was Benchley's one man strike in support of Parker. Upon his learning that she had been denied a much needed (and of course deserved) raise, AND that she was being paid less than him, he refused to write another word for the magazine until her salary was increased to a level equal to his.
A great read summarizing the long route DPs ashes took to their final resting place was a poem penned by Joseph McClennan for the Washington post, a hilarious,Parkeresque poem...
Wrong Rothschild (or did you even know that was her maiden name)? For she was not of the banking family, she was of the garment district family. And her father, though earning a comfortable salary, was not "wealthy" and certainly not rich; he had no "estate" in the sense of the word as you employ it, and neither did Dorothy, ever. Money, to one extent or another, was a problem all her life. It is an unfortunate facet of a crumbling intellectual structure that ignoramuses are employed to present completely unvetted crap as fact. For shame.
I adore her so much. So witty, smart, vicious, caring, a real gal.....❤ Extremely underrated.
Somehow entwined with her feelings and writings. Am so entwined with her very soul.

❤I feel the same.
"I can give you a sentence using the word 'horticulture': You can lead a horticulture, but you can't make her think." ---Dorothy Parker

She is legendary! I remember reading her work like three years ago. She can really write.
Too bad she died at 73. It's especially sad since she was fiercely dedicated for civil rights.
My great grandma is 95 and she's STILL living. Probably because the grim reaper is too scared to claim her. XD

Given that she died at 73, one can only imagine how sad her friends were about her death.
Given that Mrs. Parker died at 73, one can only imagine how sad her friends were about her death. Why did she have to die at 73?
Dorthy Parker s' ashes are at the Woodlawn Cemetary in the Bronx

But she was half-jewish because she had a Jewish dad.
@@stephj505 You don't understand about Jewish lineage. Look up "matrilineal descent."
