My 360 was having occasional Open Tray errors, fixable by just making it open and close a dozen times until it worked, then suddenly a few weeks ago it went to unending error no matter what I tried. I opened the box to see what drive I had in case I needed a replacement, and thought I would try the 10 cent fix with a q-tip before the $40 new drive version. I watched your video, and it showed me perfectly what I needed to fix, and it works now, first try. Thank you.

I cleaned the rest of the inside of the console with the condensed air, the contact cleaner, and a bunch of q-tips while I was at it. My 9 year old son helped out a lot too, so it was very educational for him as well. Plus you saved me lots of money. Thanks again.
My sons Xbox Elite started acting up about a month ago. Been debating about a month about spending 300.00 on a new one. Found this video today. Did it in about 20 minutes. Works perfect, was able to clean it a little too. The cleaner was $14.00 at radio shack. Which was too high to buy. So I used mass air flow sensor cleaner that I had brought for about a year ago. Thanks for posting this video.

this really works! been having this problem for a while now, id have to put my disc in the tray, open and close it 1,000,000 times before it would read. this vid looks a bit complicated so all what i did was clean the lens using what he used and moved the laser up and down a bit. my games work first time now and don't freeze :) thanks man! saved me spending £180 on a new xbox ;)
i powered my disk drive up and come to conclusion the top steel casing is the problem but was unaware of sensors under the tray so think ill give them a clean off :) thanks for the great tut here
Thank fuck for RUclipsrs like you. After 3 videos I learnt how to take apart an xbox without the xtool, how to remove the disk drive and how to clean and maintainance from you. I had the Open Tray error which at first became the Unrecognised Disk error but it's now working. Thanks very much man!!

I fixed it how you showed us, but I used just a tiny drop of hydrogen peroxide instead to clean the spinner and the lens slider where you wiped next to it. My xbox worked great now. Thanks a lot. (:
the guy is right about the switch, i found mine had dropped down slighty. all that holds the switch in a plastic wedge. i pushed the switch up from underneath and glued it in place and has worked great since.
Thanks it worked for me. the first time i put the disk in, it showed open tray, but the second time i put the same disk in, i was able to play the game, and it still works for me. my laser just needed some cleaning :)

Awesome Tutorial man. at 1:43 helped me a lot. i would of never found the damn thing. i am trying to fix a friend Xbox tray and he mangled it up pretty good trying to pry it open.
nice job. Lead me to fixing a clip sticking up getting in the way of the tray opening and closing. it was good to see the motion of the tray and how it should work and then to compare it to mine and trouble shoot from there.

This actually works, though be careful when taking those two pieces apart, I just cut my finger while trying to do it. Some of them are really sharp, use a screw tip on the holes and turn it instead.
Dave i could use some expert advice ... Last night i took my jasper 360 apart and dumped my drive key for the Liteon drive then i flashed the drive now my problem is that the console greenlight flashes when i close the dvd drive the console reboots
Thank you for this video, it did help me figure out what the issue is with my drive but I can't figure out how to remove the deck (the plastic part that is hinged). At 1:45 in your video, you push a plastic bar that moves the deck up/down. Mine works manually if I slam the drive door shut or by using gravity (turning drive upside down). In the normal working position with normal pressure to close the drive, the deck sticks and won't go up completely to load the disc. Suggestions?

Saliva over rubbing alcohol? Alcohol evaporates and won't leave residue. Also, it might help if you more clearly explained what your error was. I'm looking for people who have my same error (after disassembling my Xbox) and I'm not sure if you had my same problem.
Lubrication is good but the main reason your 360 tray issues are those two little sensors. You can take the whole tray out and adjust them to where they make contact when you open and close. This is the way to fix the open tray error. Lubrication is not the problem.
It makes me laugh that you used saliva to clean the lens. My dad, a computer tech for ages, cleaned one of my scratched discs that way, and it worked! hahahaha! Anyway, I followed your lead, and along with another video ("Part 3/4 How to Fix" by Frankieseshy) and disassembly instructions found on the web, cleaned, lubricated, and fixed my Xbox! Woohoo! Thank you, very much! There was no way I was paying close to $100 to have them maybe-fix it and charge me a load for shipping. And I'm not in the mood for a new Xbox, just yet.
@BlackShot0wnageHD That's weird. Are you 100% sure the disc has no significant scratches (like the perfect circle)? If the disc is physically fine, try clearing the system cache: System/ memory/ clear the cache then restart your xbox and put GTA4 in.
Very nice will try this thanks, my last xbox did the same open tray error as the one I have now, the last xbox when I opened it the spindle had actually splattered the grease in the bearing, I am presuming, so I lube it up and it did well til the laser finally died out on it...
@X2YeZCAMCNC What about silicone spray? I use this with my Rubik's cubes for lubrication..So I thought I might ask...If I'm not wrong, I think silicone spray is only for non medal parts correct?
I have followed all three of these tips, the cleaning the lense and bar and i have also unsscrewed the little left screw on the lens a little bit and nothing has worked, do you have any other tips for me??
thanks for making this, 2 of my xboxes were getting this error. i went through the steps but accidently pulled on the copper contacts under the tray. finally got those connecting correctly and it seems to at least worked for now. going to try on the second xbox later. house of smokers so i'm thinking the dust might add to this issue.
I know this is like 10 years ago but I'll give it a shot. After seen about all movies on the entire RUclips still no one has mentioned how these rails that the lazer is sliding at are supposed to be adjusted. They're adjustable in 3 out of 4 corners. Mine was way of and I've tried to make all 4 even, doesn't work, tried make the 2 att the back higher no luck, lowered them just a little and now it read buyed games but having real trouble with burnd ones which it played before. I've adjusted the lazer resistant down to 3,25 oms. I'd be happy to hear any suggestions.

@BlackShot0wnageHD The perfect circle is a scratch caused by changing the X360 position while reading/playing a cd (i.e. moving it horizontal from vertical) which has the shape of a "perfect" circle. And no, clearing the cache won't affect your gamerscore, saves or anything like that. It will delete the title updates and the xbox will prompt you to download them again when you start your games. This way any corrupted file shall be replaced with a new one.
i thought that the laser was my problem as well but after cleaning the lens,and positioning the laser correctly it didn't work...i've come to find out that the wheel the spins the discs isn't spinning...is there anything i can do about that?..i was thinking lubricate the wheel with some oil but i wanted another opinion..please respond as soon as possible..thanks.
@hbkjose1 See 1:50 to get it open. Check the belt under the tray is tight. Square belt 3.0" in size. Also something maybe in the way of tray opening all the way. Could be many things.

are you canadian? and what exactly was the problem with your disk drive? my diskdrive doesn't open and if by a miracle it does open it closes almost immediately. will that process work for mine?

@TheSilentxKiller that is where the lens is when it is at home position...check the spindle motor rotates easily

ok but what if that fail then? have that problem. lowering the desk.does noting since the one i have, is really stuck lol. bad gears or something

@lordcosmic1 Do not spray contact cleaner on the mech it will ruin it...probably melt the plastic...you want to lubricate the rail

@Th3Aviator13 No WD-40 will not work. Engine Oil should be fine 10W30 and vaseline is best but light grease would work.
