    I've been trying to fix my stupid disk tray for a while now but no such luck. I've cleaned the laser multiple time, no luck still. So I was a little bit iffy at first about the laser screws but at the same time it was already not recognizing my disks so I couldn't really make it any worse. So I did the quarter turn and bam! It fixed it! I can't explain how grateful I am to you for posting this. I followed everything you did and my problem was fixed and you and your video were the solution to my problem :) Thank you so much! I'm going to subscribe to this kind fellow and support him for his helpfulness to the community :) Thanks again

    Guys, keep in mind, when you mess around with a laser's voltage, do it only with a multimeter to understand exactly how it does change, and you should know what disc drive's brand you're fixing because they are not the same, having different voltage range.

    I'm amazed!! This truely worked. Took apart my jasper 360 and lite-on dvd drive and cleaned laser lens with alcohol and took out the spinning mechanism and lubricated it as described in this video. When i cleaned laser lens, I pulled up a whole lot of yellowish stuff off of it and it soaked into the q-tip. Put back together and tested all 6 games that the Open tray error was occuring on and they all loaded with NO problems three times in a row. Thank you durhamazhogan for this video. U just saved me $50 and a whole lot of soldering headaches. This truely worked for me. A++++++++++++++ homie!!

    A very big thank you for your tutorial. Once I opened the DVD drive I noticed the laser mechanism pushed all the way back. I re-positioned it closer, cleaned it and no longer am experiencing the 'Open Tray' issue. Kudos sir!

  • @durhamazhogan
    @durhamazhogan  11 лет назад +2

    The left screw is usually the resistance that is sent to the laser so without it the laser stands not much chance of working i am afraid. Either remove a screw from another laser or probably even better, buy one from a place like amazon. They usually cost around £6 / $8 and replace the laser completely. (make sure it is compatible with your DVD drive type).

    Which screws, the ones that keep the laser level or the ones which control the power e.c.t..(small ones attached to laser)? This is known as pot tweak. If he really messed it up all i can suggest is trial and error unless you have a Multimeter that Reads Ohm's then you can use this to check it and fix. If he burnt out your laser then I suggest buying a new one they are cheap and you can get them from amazon / ebay for under £7 / $10, just make sure it is compatable with your DVD drive.

    so I did most of your fixes. I ended on the loosening the laser screws and it still doesn't work, should I just replace my laser because everything seems to be working but I'm guessing this damn laser isn't reading disc and I even cleaned the stupid later too.

  • @durhamazhogan
    @durhamazhogan  12 лет назад +2

    Sounds to me like your laser is dying. Your best bet is try cleaning it and try the laser tweak (but be careful).
    You can buy replacement lasers on the internet, some independent computer shops replace them for a fairly cheap price. If you do choose to buy one yourself make sure you are buying one that is compatible with your drive. How old is your xbox, some lasers die over time.

  • @durhamazhogan

    Does the laser move at all? If not then it could be the drive for the laser that is busted (it is the spiral bit that the laser connects to on the side).
    This happened to an old PC DVD drive of mine and i replaced it with one from an old drive. Basically only has 2 screws holding it in place and is easily replaced.
    Move the laser as far away from the the part which spins the disc as you can and insert a disc, then see if the laser moves down to try and read it before it would normally spin.

    Nope you can pick a compatible laser on places like Amazon for really cheap. It is not expensive you just have to be careful when installing.

  • @durhamazhogan
    @durhamazhogan  11 лет назад

    7 years old! You have done quite well. I am afraid that the laser may have just died if it is that old. If the laser moves up and down then it is not the motor and you will most likely need a new laser i am afraid. They are very cheap on places such as amazon, they are around £5 / $4, so long as the laser is compatible then it is a quick change.

    @durhamazhogan  11 лет назад +2

    Hey, does the laser move when you put the disc in to try and read it or does it stay where it is? If you have replaced the laser and it only works for a while it may be the drive or even the motor that moves the laser. You just want to hope its not the motherboard.

    Hey man, i know this video is old, but looking for maybe a fix for another common annoyance with the x360. My drive works fine when the console is horizontal, but if i stand it vertically it's plagued with the open tray notification and the drivetray will not open either.
    What do you think the issue could be here?
