    GREAT pick...if not the best sounding and most unique Dreadbox synth they've made, it's a CLOSE second. It just takes some work to get your head around it, but it's work with real payoff. And I say all this as an OG owner...

      @ProckGnosis Месяц назад +1

      @@johndonovan2743 Well, maybe it's not a fair comparison (only 50 were made), but the Murmux V2 would top my list. That's mostly just for the BIG ballsy sound and LOTS of patching options. I still think the Nyx is a more creatively designed synth though.

    NYX is one of the best, it's got a magical quality to it. Nick Batt called it a "Blade Runner machine" and it's true, the NYX can get into CS-80 territory, in its own unique way. Good demo, the unconventional architecture is a little confusing and it's always good to see an overview.

    Great vid. Did not need this temptation around Black Friday. Dreadbox has such a distinctive sound...always very 'dystopian sci-fi soundtrack'. I guess it's the beefy OSC combined with the built-in FX.
    I'm surprised you don't really see folks collect a desktop full of Dreadbox like people seem to do with other brands. Perhaps each device is a different take of 'growly Dreadbox thing' not really bread-and-butter synth, so multiple Dreadbox models are overkill. Starsky should do a definitive guide comparing the NYX, Erebus, Hades, Typhon, and Nymphes as they're all around the same price point.

      I have Hades, Erebus and Nyx and do hook them all up with step sequencer. Hades bass, Erebus leads, Nyx pads/fx, add in some drums, patch wire many of the modulation options, wiggle some knobs, sonic bliss!

      @@o3rMeNs sounds awesome! I currently only have a Nymphes and I’m super happy wit its range but I’d be lying if I didn’t say I was looking at other Dreadbox synths. The Telepathy in particular is very tempting. If the upcoming Artemis was multitimbral I’d already have ordered it. :)

    I'm totally convinced. I have a Typhon and it too has a wonderful potential. I am up to my nuts in kit and too little time for play, which is where this little box really scores point, the joy in this video is obvious. I could spend all day finding delicious noises, taking me back to my original Wasp in the early 80s but with so much more scope. It's hard to put down but I am so spoilt by patch memory, which became my staple from the DX7 onwards, I would be frustrated jot being able to come back to my luscious discoveries at the press of a button. Of course, at this price point that's not possible. I will probably buy one, if only to support Dreadbox but may never put it to use😢. Maybe in my dotage.

      Iirc The Nyx is a limited edition. I'd say go for that and if you don't like it you can always sell it and go for the mod15. I own the Nyx 2 and Grandmother - both awesome synths with different sounds & functionality. Overall I get more out of the GM but the Nyx sounds so beautiful and this recent version has faster LFOs. My main complaint with DB synths is their LFOs are too slow.

    Wow ❤ how close filters are to matriarch? Or the overall sound? I was going to buy model 15 but this seems to give more. Would be interesting to hear how much it differs from grandma/model 15 /matriarch. Thanks 🙏

    • @mynmyself
      @mynmyself 2 месяца назад +5

      I have the original and have used a Matriarch quite a lot... The routing on the NYX is a bit criptic, so I tend to use it as a regular mono synth. It does have the beefy moog sound, and it definitly has much more to offer than the grandmother. Although the Grandmother and Matriarch feel more like a big instrument, like playing a piano or a guitar, instead of messing around a little desktop device. Still, the Nyx is one of my favorite sounding synths, I just wish it had two proper cutoff controls instead of the offset from VCF 1s cutoff. Oh, and the envelopes can feel a bit too quick if you want super long sounds (although you can use then as ASR and just send a long gate), but you get three of those over the only one you get on the Grandma...

    I've been wanting to add a Dreadbox synth (I do have their Kinematic fx pedal), and Nyx may just be the thing I'm looking for.
    Previously, Hades was topping my list and even had a price drop recently, but then the Moog Minitaur finally came back in-stock and I jumped on it for a bass synth. I am somewhat cautious of DIY, but may risk it for Nyx.

    #Dreadbox do honest prices while #Moog #sequential sell the same tech inside like the nyx and ask 8 times more speculating on brand reputation of the past, never buy an expensive synth with-ought knowing what they put inside… UDO was a total disappointment discovering that inside it was just tiny pcb SMT like the nyx but far more expensive
