Grapefruit, great idea with the pocket hole screws. I've done the domino thing a few times, and believe me that can be a challenge in itself when you're on your own glueing up.
Nice job Lewis, I really like the sped up bits during construction but I can't watch them without the music of Benny Hill running through my head !!! lol. And you know what you can do with ya grapefruit, haha !!
Random comment - but I’m doing a city and guild carpentry level 1 and the instructor likes to show a RUclips video of the current thing - and last week he showed your video of fitting a door lining and I was like “I know him!!!” 😂
Yes mate I have a short in my channel of me making the wedges, I used normal pva glue on this mate, I sometimes use pu glues, especially if the product is external but as this is internal and I wanted and extending open time pva was the best option
Grapefruit. Two points. Firstly, great to see a professional using pocket hole joinery when appropriate. Why not? Secondly, I don’t suppose you know the brand / name of the rollers on the fence? I have the same fence and could use a set. Great door.
Cheers for the comment buddy, I’m not against using pocket holes when you can, I feel like you should what ever gets the job done but to the best of your ability, if a pocket hole will do then why not use one. As for the router rollers they are made by jessem they look different not but that’s the ones to use
@@LTWCarpentry Thanks Man. Pocket hole joinery is great. I love it. Most people in B&Q in the drill section don’t really want a drill. They want a hole. The Internet gets confused about production work that pays bills versus hobby / craft / fine woodworking / ‘content’. I think you are lined up on the right track. No credible correspondent would denigrate pocket hole joinery for the sake of it.
Grapefruit. Hi Lewis the door looks good and some useful tips in the video. The last board you placed in was that the one that had the 2 tongues, if so did you have to locate the last 2-3 boards in their T&G and push the boards down flat ?
Hi buddy, yes it was the one with the 2 tongues, you could do it that way yes but I just slid the last board in from the bottom of the door as I had enough movement to do this. Hope this helps
Just watching the video, but haven’t got to the part where you ask us to comment Grapefuit. Noticed while you were on the router table you had some (what I assume to be Banggood ) stock guides. Have you had a used them much and if so how are they?
Doors looking great Lewis. Do you think joiners skills are easier to cross over to carpentry or vies versa? Or maybe not at all. Hope I don't get you into trouble Grapefruit 😮
Great video! I was always taught not to glue the t & g boards but i like your way of just doing a thin bead of glue on the middle of each board. Will have to give this a try. Thank you👍🏼
Cheer buddy, yes I was taught the same but I found that with movement the boards can sometimes come out of alignment so that’s when I started with the thin bead, really helps keep everything lined up.
Grapefruit. Nice work mate, just a quick question and definitely not a criticism, but why do you not glue the mortise as well as the tenon? I was always taught to glue both as it would make the joint stronger. As I said not a criticism as I know everyone has different ways of doing things but more for a learning point for me
Cheers buddy, I don’t like to glue the full tenon, I only glue the first two thirds, my thinking is the style can still expand and contract, not sure if it actually works but I like to think it does, I’ve never had a problem with the joints failing, I did used to glue both, but changed about 6 years ago. I might go back as I’m not sure there’s much benefit 🍻
@@LTWCarpentry thanks mate, that makes sense. I suppose with mechanical fixings as well the joint shouldn’t move anyway. Like I said this wasn’t in anyway a criticism but more of a learning point for me. Have a great week and looking forward to the next post 👍
@@LTWCarpentry I’m building a garden gate in a similar style ledge and braced just wasn’t sure if to glue the tongue and groove or not as to allow for movement in the wood. It’s a recessed panel so I guess the four side would hold them in place and still allow for any movement.
Grapefruit. All the best Lewis.

What do you think about blades for cutting oak, do you prefer more teeth on a blade or less for splitting reasons.
I prefer more teeth as it gives a cleaner cut I find, however they do dull quicker 😬 cheers for the comment 👍🍻
