Nice trip! I think you did well with the weather, obviously. Cycling in the horizontal rain and hills can get discouraging further north, which is very remote and unemcumbered by "civilisation" for the most part. You have to plan your food situation, but of course, can't plan for the weather, which around there, changes every ten minutes anyways.

Thank you for this beautiful tour of Orkneys and Shetland. They are both on my bucket list, and in the meantime I get the joy of watching this. Great filming, drone flying, editing and storytelling as usual. Many extremely beautiful places. And I appreciated the many references to Norway 🤩About the British weather - I myself have been to the UK quite a lot of times, and several times up to 2-3 weeks at a time, and during most months of the year, and I have very rarely had any rain. Just returned home from some 80 km of coastal walking in Cornwall, and had lovely and warm weather except from a handful of light drops one afternoon. I hope your trip home went smoothly☺ Thank you for sharing!

@@WestGoesEast I will surely go some time. I am also sure I will love them. And all I know about UK weather is that is is mostly lovely 😉 At least it rains more than the double amount yearly here in Bergen as in Cornwall, and that is a fact 🌧🌧 🙄🙂

A great challenge like LeJog, followed by a few days "cycling holiday" in the Scottish Isles ...and your timing with the weather was perfect!
BTW, there's no need for you to go all the way to Shetland if you want to see a puffin. Not far from Brighton, whenever I cycle up onto the South Downs, there's always a huffin' AND a puffin'. Maybe a few rude words too, if there's a headwind!

ah, how cool. Just watched this off the back of your video on LEJoG. I and my ex worked in Shetland in summer 95, and visited that "Tombola" beach on one of our days off. We stayed on the campsite just outside Lerwick and had amazing weather the whole time we were there. Fantastic place, and very friendly locals. On the overnight ferry up from Aberdeen we had flat calm seas like a millpond, but I got seasick after drinking in the bar then going to the toilet in the early hours (I do NOT recommend the recliner chairs for sleeping btw- book a cabin) and finding someone else had puked on the floor, which set me off; my abiding memory of that leg of the journey was being sick over the side and watching dolphins porpoising off the bow of the ship, as the sunrise came up over the gas rigs in the distance- still beautiful despite my condition. Then on the return leg we hit a force 7 storm, with the ship pitching and rolling over 20 foot waves, but I had no problem with it, and was on deck watching the Coast Guard rescue helicopter conduct an exercise. Brilliant stuff!
I absolutely loved Shetland and met a lot of people from the neighbouring islands, and would love to get back there sometime. Life there is so much more laid back than the mainland.
Life should be an adventure and you´re certainly living it :) thanks again for this :)

Seems like we both got lucky with the weather in the Shetland Islands then. I thought that only happens like 1 day a year..haha!
You were lucky to see dolphins. I kept my eye for whales and dolphins but only saw a porpoise when I was crossing the causeway in Orkney. Saw plenty of seals though! :)

I wanted to check out Orkney and Shetland for cycling and found your video , obviously sponsored by the tourist board! What a great end to your trip , thanks for doing all the videos. I live in Scotland and always wonder how windy its going to be up there. But what a place to wild camp , I was in southern Italy in October where it was warm and flat, empty beaches and warm sea but so dirty with trash everywhere, so great to see how pristine it looks back home. Enjoy .

That's like saying the Englands or Scotlands.
    It's just Shetland.
We also don't regard ourselves as Scottish so there's no "Mainland Scotland" :) .
