  • I wanted a fun and simpler build to get me back into the swing of things. So I decided on this 108, plus I've never built and Eduard kit before. Since I wanted a more simple build, this is a "Straight Out Of Box" build. OK lets give this one more try...

    I hope that you build many more Eduard kits. Fabulous Taifun. Your Dad's tip on propeller painting is so simple but so elegant. Totally stealing that idea. Great bid.

    this is most possibly one of the neatest jobs with aircraft models i have ever seen! i like the way you glewed the decal on because alot of times the decals in the cockpit would fall off! very nice job! keep up the good work!👍

      @rebelsatcloudnine  7 лет назад +1

      thank you very much Johnovan, I know the problem, it probably would have been just as easy to use the full solid panel, but I really had fun seeing the effect of this. I've seen on a few older kits my dad was once restoring where the decals deteriorated and flaked all over the canopy.

    I can recommend Eduard aircraft for their superb quality and reasonable retail price. The BF 108 has been on my Bucket list for some time. Your build of same was excellent. Thank you for taking the time and trouble to show this great build.

    Lovely work on a lovely kit.
    There are some details that caught my attention, like using Tamiya brush glue AFTER placing the pieces together, rather than before as usual.
    Also, that´s a nice idea to prime parts in white before applying the final yellow color- the problem is that both colors are rather troublesome to me :P (as I´m experiencing with my current kit; a helicopter in 1/72nd scale painted white, red and black)
    Also, a few times I used Micro Set and M. Sol for the decals, but I aw no difference between using them and not, so for the moment I am keeping those containers aside...
    Finally, nice idea too using that kind of "gun" to paint the propeller hub; way more effective than just spinning a wooden stick!
    Great work, once more.

    • @rebelsatcloudnine
      @rebelsatcloudnine  7 лет назад

      I've been able to use that 3 times now and every time it's more and more fun painting the spinners like that. ANd very rewarding knowing that the divider line it more level than using my own hand.
      It seems like extra work but I've learned a base coat of white makes everything apply easier with brighter colors like red and yellow. Plus you don't spend so long trying to get a base of the color, by creating 5-10 layer making it all really thick. :)

      There's going to be a model show in Nanton in a few weeks, with lots of vendors there. I was jut looking through my kits yesterday, and I'm going to take some time in July possibly to look through and maybe put a bunch for sale. Too many that I just can't finish in this life time.

    Good to see you get your groove back! Beautiful job. (James Garner and Donald Pleasance stole one of these in, "The Great Escape") If you liked this, Eduard does a brilliant series of Bf-109's. They also do a good P-39

    • @rebelsatcloudnine
      @rebelsatcloudnine  7 лет назад +1

      I'm keeping an eye out for the P-39, but they are going pretty high on ebay, hopefully I'll find one at the show in a bit. I'd really like to get a few kits out with olive drab, I've been reading up on it and I'd like to try some new techniques out.

      Ok, go to the Andy's Hobby Center RUclips page. He does a really good black and white prime on his 1/35 armor, similar to what I do on Soviet armor. It might help doing faded OD on a 1/48 or 1/72 OD American bird.

    If you thin it a lot and apply it in very thin layers, you can hand brush XF-86. It's too labour intensive for me so I switched to Vallejo Matte Varnish which is waaaay better for hand brushing.

    • @rebelsatcloudnine
      @rebelsatcloudnine  7 лет назад

      I've tried Vallejo Matt Varnish as well, and I did really like the flat coverage, I just couldn't get the brush strokes properly out of it, not matter how much I thinned it. I think I'll give their Model Air Flat a try.

    The cockpit looks a bit like the interior of a car. Really unusual cockpit but it is really nice. If your painting dark colors, is it worth pre shading? Yea! not seen the Tamiya handy drill for a while. Have you actually used it to rill yet? Nice build very enjoyable video.

    • @rebelsatcloudnine
      @rebelsatcloudnine  7 лет назад

      Hi Ron, I agree it looks like a very cozy aircraft :) The darker green and the olive drab do show and quite subtly when compared to the lighter green, but my camera didn't quite pick it up in the fullest detail, but it is there. I've used it quite a bit for things that aren't modeling related as well as 4 propeller paintings like this. I bought it to drill out holes for star ships but I haven't quite got to those projects yet.

    Sir,
    If you use water based paint on a fuselage, can you paint a section of the fuselage with a lacquer finish?
    Allan

  • @allanmartinez1190
    @allanmartinez1190 5 лет назад

    Hello Sir I'm sorry to bother you I enjoyed watching your full build video of the Bf 108 Taifun. My question is about the instrument panel On all your aircraft builds do you do the same procedure to the panel?
    Meaning you drill the holes in the panel and apply the decal on the back side using Microscale Kristle Klear so it can dry clear.
    Thank you for your time
    Sincerely
    Allan

      I've got a NEO CN, and I really enjoy it. It's quite a hard airbrush that you can get a lot of good details out of, especially for the price. I've been surprised on many occasions what that brush can do.

    • @rebelsatcloudnine

      Sorry to be less than helpful. I bought them from a model store and they aren't really name brand. However they are called "non magnetic tweezers" just search that on ebay, and you'll find a few hundred from China, and a few that will sell 5 different types for around $5, and free shipping :D
