Just bought a used 395 2 days ago for $30. It came with a flex shaft model 225 T2 (barely used), a new collet nut kit, EZ Lock adapter and various bits all inside a hard cover storage case.

Thanks for this review. I have a 30+ yr old 595 variable speed that's still singing along. I just fitted it to the plunge router attachment even though it wasn't listed as a compatible device. ( probably because it's discontinued) I see there are no parts avail from Dremel anymore so if it dies before me I'll be on to a foreign made Gen4. Sure got my money's worth outta this little gem. Thanks again !!!

I don't see the version that I have. It's a "Moto-Tool" 3950 Type 3. It is variable speed and has ball bearings (as noted on the box). The shaft lock looks like a slide switch and not a button. I really like the version I have and was surprised to see it missing from your video.

This was a great comparison. Thank you much. I have a Model 395, no T6, straight 395. Any idea what the difference is between these two? I did notice on my tag that it’s rated at 5000-35000 RPM’s.

Thank you for the explanation of brushes! I have always suspected that brushes can be "machined" but haven't yet had to do it! Thanks again for the great videos!!!

I no trouble finding factory Dremel brushes on Amazon. I have heard some people say Dremel made some models that you could not replace the brushes in.

I have a 395 Type 5 with a bad switch. Wrote and called Dremel “customer service”. Only to hear.. “that is discontinued and we don’t have a replacement part for it!”. Looked on line. Too many Chinese made replacements with too man6 negative comments like didn’t fit, isn’t the one shown, quitbafter an hour, broke…etc.

Hello sir, do you collect these old Dremels? I have managed to pick up 4 Dremels over the years, an original bakelite model 2 with the original spring cable protector, a model 245-5 which is a continuation of the model 2 but a solid plastic housing and no easily replaceable graphite brushes (still doable. just needs to open the case instead), a teeny tiny cordless one with 2 speeds and a modern one, but I actually use that one. If you do collect them, would you be interested in these? Many thanks.

Great video. I'm still a little confused about whether you can use dremel bits in the Solaris or DeWalt. If you cannot, what 1/8" bits (for cutting and grinding) would you recommend in the Solaris or DeWalt? Thanks in advance.

There's obviously great interest in this tool. That intrigues me when it's just a low-tech electric motor spinning a shaft. I was considering one for drilling small holes where the weight of a small power drill might affect the 'feel' for the job. But amazingly, drilling isn't considered a primary use.

But it's on their mind they make tiny little three jaw Chuck's for dremels

What I discovered on eBay, there are a bunch of Model 395 for relatively cheap, ballparking $10 to $20 with $10 to $15 shipping. Of particular note, I did not find any Type 6 (gray) models, but plenty of Type 5 and Type 4 and the occasional Type 2. Of the 395 Type 4 they always seemed to come with the snake attachment, so maybe just luck of the draw or a particular accessory package of the time. Anyway, I picked up a 395 Type 5 for $15 with $10 shipping, $27 after tax. (Used. Average Joe U.S. seller.)

I have the Newest 395 which was a big improvement over my Dad's older 380-6. The 395 has more power and a better grip, but man did I hate how hot that 395 got after a few minutes. The placement of the exhaust vents wasn't ideal. When I upgraded to the current 3000 I was basically in love with the better design. The dremel itself runs considerably cooler and the speed control switch is easier to adjust in my opinion.

Another thing I learned is some Knock-off Chinese fake label "Dremel MultiPro" tools like to advertise 37,000 RPM. So if you see 37,000 that should be a red flag. Of course they love to invent new numbers that have to be bigger than what the authentic competition offers, so at least they out themselves for our benefit.

The Parkside one and it’s accessories from LIDL fits and is relatively cheap. I couldn’t stop myself from buying it because of the price and was surprised how good it is. The bits set is cheap but better than most sets. I recommend it over the non brands any day.
