      @@gordonamerson28 I did not get the assistant principal position. My interview went great! I felt confident and overly prepared. I listened to several of your videos (which tremendously helped), and I did three mock interviews: with my assistant superintendent, my principal, and a teacher. On the day of my interview, I walked into the room confidently, dressed for the position, and shook and smiled at everyone in the eye.
      It was a panel interview of five people including the newly elected principal. The panel asked between 15-18 questions, and I was pretty confident in my responses using the STAR method (when it was appropriate). I’m writing for a different reason: I was informed the job was mine, but the superintendent needed a way to pay the high school football coach more money. The superintendent also didn’t want the coach to leave the system and hiring him for the AP fixed all his problems.
      I will keep applying and hopefully my break is right around the corner at a school where I’m needed. 😊🙏🏽

    Great video as always! I am hopefully getting close to the finish line in my teaching job search, and your videos have really helped me out.
    In a recent interview, I got a question about creating a classroom/school culture, and I was able to tie in things I knew about that school to help me answer it. The school does a "Constitution Day" every September where everyone signs an agreement on classroom and school expectations, and I pointed out to the principal that I thought it was a great idea. I definitely think I scored some points for mentioning that. Thanks again for all the useful tips and strategies!

      Chris…I am looking forward to hearing that you got the teaching job you want. You are right there my friend. I am glad to hear that you are incorporating the principles shared here on the channel. These are practices and principles I have personally used all the way up to the role of superintendent so I know they can and will work for you too.
      Keep doing your research and due diligence so you can connect with the hiring panel or principal. You’re right there…keep going! 👍🏾

    How do we showcase our soft skills in the interview please

    • @gordonamerson28
      @gordonamerson28  Месяц назад +2

      There are two ways I immediately think could help showcase soft skills best way in an interview: 1. Use concrete examples of how you’ve been compassionate, empathetic, or self reflective in your work. Highlight how that skills helped you solve a problem or achieve an excellent outcome for the school, a colleague, or a student. 2. Be aware of your non verbals and body language in an interview. Self-awareness is a high level soft skill. The ability to connect, listen, and affirm people in the interview setting is a powerful strategy that can leave the panel with very positive perspectives about you.
