    ****I actually broke 3 all new suspension bolts once I upgraded to this mod. The bolts are aluminum. Is there an upgrade for the bolts?*** Also FYI, they can still seize up, you’ll need anti-seize…a lot.

    • @AlanAtSPL
      @AlanAtSPL 3 месяца назад

      The blue screws are titanium. You shouldn't put anti-seize on them as that also reduces the friction in the threads and will result in 20 - 30% excessive preload ( "overtorquing" ) when you tighten them to the torque spec as well as increasing the chances that they will loosen. The screws are 1/4"-20 socket head cap screws which are widely available at Home Depot and other hardware stores if someone is in a pinch. You can swap them for stainless steel versions if you feel the need to change them.
      Lastly, the screws are spec'd at 150 inch-lbs of torque (12.5 ft-lbs) which can sometimes be on the very edge of a torque wrench's adjustment range. If it is in the bottom 20% of the torque wrench's range then the error range is considerably higher and shouldn't be used if you have a better suited wrench.

    VAC Monoball upper control arms are THE best upgrade right with Coilovers for these cars. I have not done tie rods yet or end links, but I would tell everyone lowering at all to get camber plates (I made the mistake of not)

      I got VAC upper AND lower control arms and it was wayyyyy too agressive. Like, every bump in the road feels like a landmine agressive. • @kern417
      @kern417  10 месяцев назад +1

      i used all the spacers and immediately noticed the difference. i actually reduced front camber to keep handling more neutral, because it made the car more tail happy and front end grip improved so much. it shouldn't have an effect on wheel bearing life.

So much so that I've been delaying getting a coilover kit for over a year on my xDrive car just because I wana make sure I do it right and get the geometry correct. I just want a flush fitment and xDrive cars always have this terrible reverse rake look. What do you think would be the best course of action if I were to get my front end lowered without putting too much stress on the axles? Do I need to get other components like adjustable control arms to keep the geometry happy and not have too much stress on the axles?

    Hey Kern with the SPL Control arm spacing, since you’re adding a spacer to the mounting bolt to raise your roll center, wouldn’t you also have to slightly lengthen the control arm? I feel like geometry wise, if you add a spacer to the stud to lower the control arm you’d also have to slightly lengthen it in order to compensate for the new positioning. Correct me if im wrong. (I know the spl’s are adjustable length)

    • @kern417
      @kern417  10 месяцев назад +1

      no you don't. When you lower the car, the roll center goes down without changing the control arm length. This simply brings it back up without changing any other geometry. if you do make it longer then it changes the camber curve and other handling characteristics, so i kept it the same to avoid unintended changes.
