Do I Actually Have Anxiety?

  • Hyperventilation syndrome is RARELY tested for or treated, so many people continue to struggle against anxiety and other symptoms without addressing the main cause - their breathing.
Breathing impacts the brain in many ways, but breathing 'incorrectly' for an extended period of time can really throw things off balance.
I hope this shines a light on something I see very frequently in my clinical practice, but is rarely addressed.
As promised, here also is a link to learn how to assess your breath.

Very true, thanks a lot❤ Many times, im doing fine but suddenly there is a surge of rapid thoughts even if they dont necessarily cause anxiety and i find myself breathing faster which eventually turns into shivering, dizziness and other manifestations...i thought maybe i just had a low threshold of panic but now i understand this better. Currently healing from cptsd and bpd. Controlling your breath really is the key. ❤

I find myself holding my breath a lot of the times and breathing through my mouth most of the time. I have a lot of unexplained dizziness. I think this maybe the issue. My breathing is all over the shop!

It sounds as though your breathing could contributing to some of the symptoms you're experiencing. Happy to chat further with you about possible solutions

Psychedelic experience made me realize this. How important breathing is, and how little thought I'd ever put into my own and how it affects me.

It's a truly powerful insight. I find that once you become aware of breathing, you become aware of so much more!

Just found this video this morning. I have been suffering from what I call “anxiety” for over 10 years now (I’m 32 currently). I’ve always said, “I don’t know why I’m anxious but I always feel it. I am really starting to believe that what it’s always has been is chronic hyperventilation. Either that or an adrenal tumor 🤷🏻‍♂️

Can hyperventilated be cured on one day though I know it takes time but will it be cured?

I want to leave this comment for other people and also I want to thank you for making this video, because it is difficult to find information on this topic.
I have been going to physical therapy for years, due to upper back and neck pain. It started during the pandemic; I assumed it was because of stress in my work environment and just general worry about the state of the world. For 2 full years I underwent several sessions with my physical therapist; massaging my painful upper back. I had scans taken, nothing to see on them.
I got so sick of feeling like there was nothing to do about my problem, it started to affect me mentally. I experienced signs of burn out and had several break downs at my GP docter.
Finally, this year, I went to a different physical therapist, who specialises in stress symptoms. Hearing my symptoms, she was pretty sure I had a chronic hyperventilation problem. My symptoms: constant anxiety, swallowing problems (tight throat), burping (weird one), upper back pain, foot on my chest feeling, rushed feeling all the time, very emotional (constant fight & flight mode on), shortness of breath during cardio training,...
Just getting this diagnosis after years, calmed me down so much, knowing there was nothing severly wrong with me.
She gave me the exercise you described in the video (4 sec. breath in, 6 out and progress to 4 in and 8 out with small pauses). I am not fully relaxed just yet :) BUT my god, this helped me so much. Hopefully my body will adapt more and more to this correct way of breathing and I will at last be free of this chronic pain.
Thank you for spreading this information, I wish it was available 4 years ago !!

Thank you so much for sharing your story! I'm so glad you eventually found someone that knew what to look for and you're now on the right path. Continue with your practices and you will continue to see improvements.
It's so unfortunate how often this occurs though .. Your story is not uncommon. Managing symptoms instead of addressing root cause.
It's why I teach what I teach, because I've seen the impact that it has on my patients.

I'm having this for 11 years now. It happend after smoking some weed (wich i wasn't new to) so i got a massive panic attack out of the blue so bad that i could not stand on my legs anymore.. never had such a panic attack again. wich resulted in all the symptoms i still have today.. so my symptoms are most of the day my breathing goes not automatic, anxiety, derealization (almost 24/7 wich no doctor i've seen believes) high hearhrate most of the day, palpitations, depression. I've tried all breathing methods including the fast wim hof one, got my heart and lungs checked out taken benzo's to see if it helped. Tried beta blockers.. and yet my breathing is still not normal and automatic. I've given up on going to the doctor not sure what else i can do its been over 11 years now. Wasted my entire education. Time is passing by fast i'm only 30 years old.

Practice buteyko. It's amazing and the polar opposite of hyperventilation. Over time your body will get used to slowing down your breathing
