Nice I just ported my inlet manifold similarly but have a Neuspeed TB luckily. I am removing the spacer to make it a straight shot. I used a crappy Dremel tool set of tips and really should have used proper cutting tips as you have used; took me hours! Keep the great mk1 CIS content coming!

Just One tip, the latest mk1 cabriolet with the 1.8 digifant, already have the larger throttle body from factory, and a specific intake manifold.
You can port a little bit the shaft and the plates, good gains to be made there.

Good point ref digi having the larger type, its only the k-jetronic that relates to the upgrade

How did you clean all of the metal shavings out of the inside of the intake manifold & the runners too?

I only do it with the manifold removed, easy to get off

Right I took my manifold off too. Then I used a vacuum cleaner, tube brush, & towels. Did you have a better way of removing the metal shavings?

    Great vid!
How do you decide how much the timing needs to be changed? Is there some kind rule of thumb?
Mine's a 1.8 8v with Audi 100 TB, full 4-2-1 supersprint exhaust, other camshaft and higher compression+flowed head. But I'm not sure my timing is spot on and not really sure when it is right.
    Any tips welcome!
And always enjoy your videos, keep'm coming!

It varies from car to car, for example my 16v is currently running 4 degrees more advance than stock.
8v gti for another example both with 16v WUR mod one happily ran 1.5 degrees more than stock the other didn't like stock so was retarded by 1 degree.
Get it set to stock correctly then add a bit, reset CO% then road test, repeat multiple times until no more performance is gained/felt or pre detonation occurs
Obviously easier with a dyno but live road testing provides better results as you can feel what the engines doing
