Hey this is just about the best 10 minute quick rundown of Race I've seen. Also one of the best games ever made and still great almost 15 years later. Everyone buy it.
At 25:00 one of the Alien cards you ended up discarding was a 4 cost Military card with 2 points and +1 military. You had 4 military, you could have built it for free in the very next colonize phase for a gain of 3 points if you'd kept it.
Also that last misplay killed me. That 1 cost development had an explore power and +1 military. Which meant it was worth 3 more than that 2 cost one. Ah well, there's a lot to keep track of lol
11:20 There are 2 different ways to pick phase 4 (just like there are 2 ways to pick explore). One of them triggers the $, the other does not. And you have to pick it to get the bonus.
I mean the one with the planet locations, and they had like light or dark alignment, and various characters and they had levels of Force sensitivity and other stats and costs, and then there were also some quest-y things like activating the Death Star. It looked so convoluted but pretty cool, shame it never became a thing that could've then become digital today.
This is one of the games I think is better as two players since in the advanced two player game you actually pick two phases. It would have been nice to know if this app had that.
Actually, that's what the mobile version is officially based on. They wanted everyone who played using the PC version to continue enjoying that, so in some sense it isn't really unofficial, just that it isn't the mobile version.
Nope. Different people are making the Android/iOS version from the original Keldon AI version. boardgamegeek.com/thread/1761001/race-galaxy-ios-android-effects-other-race-license
I...don't think I claimed the same people were made both versions, just that the original Keldon version is what the mobile version was based on? But yeah, I am glad they kept that AI, good fun to play against and a great teacher if you're paying attention.
Damnit, last time you did one of these I instantly bought it (Star Realms) and I now have 160+ hours in it according to steam. This not being on pc might save me though, although I do have a tablet... hrm..
Base game race is great, once it clicks and you play more you'll like it more, I'm sure. But the expansions are where it's at though (i.e. the first three, but definitely at least The Gathering Storm expansion). Once you get to the third and final one, the variability, nuanced strategies and combos, and more player interactions due to a fleshed out military system, its amazing.
as an owner of this glorious card game, you still have much to learn.... 1-2 turn wait to get some decent baseline developments down when going G.F. victory works so much better, drawing every development phase is so strong you should have played that round one and just spammed development phase..... also that care meant you can discard UP TO two cards for 1 VP each.
Im glad you won Quill, but something you didn't notice there on that last turn when you were discarding cards. Yes, the mining robots cost 2 and not 1, and you could still play it free, but both of the worlds default gave 1 VP. 1 more VP cause of your building that gave you VP for each Development. What you didnt pay attention to was the building that gave you VP equal to your military, which Expeditionary Force gave +1 military (aka - 1 more VP). I know this is technically a moot point since you drew a 2 point Development during that phase, but the point is still there that if you didn't draw that, you would've cost yourself a VP that may or may not of cost you the game. Anywho, good game and Im curious to see more.
How do you play those games on the internet please? I have this game in a real box as many others but I can't find any proper game like RISK UNO or this one on the internet^^
I also have it on the shelf, but get to play it so rarely. Since I joined Boardgame Arena (boardgamearena.com) I've played it tons though. There you can play it both turn-based and real-time. Works great, keeps track of rules and scores!
I have the board game, as well as the just as awesome spinoff, roll for the galaxy, and I also have the unofficial PC version, though the AI is notoriously brutal in it.
Yeah, the normal AI is pretty decent in this version. The Easy AI is pretty much braindead. Haven't tried hard, but I expect that trademark murderizing.

One of the most influential modern boardgames, even big hits like Wingspan and Everdell were inspired by it
This was actually a really good explanation of the game. I love the card game (own it and expansions) and it's really tough to teach new players.

It was worth 4 actually. 1 base + 1 being development + 1 military + 1 explorer.
Which makes it worth 3 more than then 2-cost card, like blalo'u said.
Reading comprehension is not my strong suit >.
The 2-cost card was also a development though, so it was effectively worth 2 points.
Been playing this across tabletops for years. It's a solid game with a lot of replay value. Interesting to observe this adaptation!

The reminds me that there was a weird Star Wars CCG so many ages upon ages ago when I was a wee lad that I now wish had a digitized version.
I remember that. It was cool looking but I never got to play.

Yeah I totally remember that.

The two player rules are there yes.
Source: bought the game.
i love this game hope you play more with expansions
Unofficial, but pretty good PC-version overe here: boardgamegeek.com/thread/719999/review-keldons-race-galaxy-i-windows-pc

Cool I see they've kept the AI that Keldon developed.

Yeah sorry. Had to do a little more research.
Quill, what program do you use to mirror your phone to the pc?
Damnit, last time you did one of these I instantly bought it (Star Realms) and I now have 160+ hours in it according to steam. This not being on pc might save me though, although I do have a tablet... hrm..
Race is really good, but I would buy Star Realms twenty times first. Star Realms is just that amazing.
Any plans to play more of that with Briarstone on air?
I just bought the physical edition today!
San Juan -- another good similar card game that was design approx. in parallel

Was the last card quill discarded a +1 military strength that would have synergied with his other card ?
And an explore power to boot lol

Wait you don't have to expend it like consume actions?
I've played this game! It's great!
Holy...OMG the blue synergies just tossed into the discard...
What kind of program are you using?
24 (4 players with 6 cards each) + 85 = 105. Never math live folks.
Math. Not even once.
Quill don't worry I have some lovely trig, exponentals whatever you want
This game was the shit at my old job's downtime.
Ah, so this game is a version of "San Juan" (Also a fun board game that has a mobile version) but in space.
Sort of, came from the same prototype
Hi. Does it have pass and play on the same tewice? Greetings from Germany. ☺

Good job on the vid
PC version coming to Steam in a month or so!
Quill, you could try Bluestacks application for your PC that emulates Android system.
What program you use to mirror your phone?
Hnnnngh, I love this game so much.
How do you play those games on the internet please? I have this game in a real box as many others but I can't find any proper game like RISK UNO or this one on the internet^^
Tabletop Simulator may be able to help, though the workshop is definitely a legal nightmare.
I also have it on the shelf, but get to play it so rarely. Since I joined Boardgame Arena (boardgamearena.com) I've played it tons though. There you can play it both turn-based and real-time. Works great, keeps track of rules and scores!
17:10 new vine land?
this game is good with some good complexity altho it sucks that you can't really interact with the other players
Quill, might we get a DorfStream sometime?
Really in need of some Mugs, preferrably those of the highest craftdwarfship.
Lol, phone still finds a way to disturb you.
Do another game on harder difficulty please 🙏🏻
I mean, Thea basically has a mobile game interface, and it's not crap so this can't be that bad.
Hoping Quill goes back to 60FPS some time..
Race for the Galaxy released an actual Digital version? FOR ANDROID? SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY
I have the board game, as well as the just as awesome spinoff, roll for the galaxy, and I also have the unofficial PC version, though the AI is notoriously brutal in it.
The mobile version integrates Keldon's AI, but offers some difficulty settings so you don't have to get stomped unless you want to.
Yeah, the normal AI is pretty decent in this version. The Easy AI is pretty much braindead. Haven't tried hard, but I expect that trademark murderizing.
fucking Keldon´s AI one of the hardest player in the world. I use to play it against the Gathering the storm Robot, Keldon is very hard for me
Man this seems like tons of fun, but it looks so confusing...
Symbols look hard early on, but once you know what they mean, knowing what new cards do becomes a breeze
Why not use an emulator?
Hope steam gets this
i so dont get it. this is like watching someone ramble through an algebra formular that fills a whole blackboard
you can play this at boardgamearena.com/
Install Nox on your PC and run the mobile game and record from there?
Then you have a big screen.... old man.
Please play Terra Mystica!
Shut up and take my money
You sound like Tucker Carlson.
second place
Race for the galaxy was a physical card game first. You can buy it online or at your local game store.
One of the quickest deep & deepest quick games around
