He had brushed her of as just some chess-influencer and by move three he realises that "her chess" is based in hard knowledge and lots of playtime. Almost as if she grew up with someone who was alright at chess.🤔
      Maybe Magnus follows Anna on TikTok or maybe when they met last, he brushed her of ass just some groupie, and she got to show him that's she's not just a pretty face? I don't know... I'm just guessing, but where's your sense of drama? 😉Or do you actually know? ☺
      This is on my top 5 Magnus moments of all time; he's funny, has so much respect for Anna that he coaches her to give himself more of a challenge and is enjoying himself when he thought he wasn't gonna...

      If you know some opening theory in these kind of positions, you're most likely a good player. I don't see many unexperienced players who know theory in the Catalan. It's not the london system XD.

      First, Carlsen should not have been tapping the metal table which is distracting to the opponent. Second, this just proves Fischer was right about how classic chess is too much about memorization. I call it "memorization through familiarization"!

    I have absolutely ZERO idea how to play chess, but I’m as fascinated with watching the pros play this game as much as I am in awe of watching Alex Honnold’s free solo of El Capitan!!

    I'm only 1100 in blitz and instantly saw the d5 pawn as a capture and as defending the attack on the rook at the same time so I'm kind of surprised she missed it even after being told to look for tactics. Makes me feel kind of proud too however sad that might be..lol

      OTB has a psychological element that’s missing in online games. Even though she was smiling, she seemed quite intimidated sitting across from Carlsen. He even took the time to encourage her not to be. Point being, when you’re stressed, your mind wastes processing cycles on unproductive things that distract you from the task at hand… and you miss things that you normally wouldn’t.

    I love how Magnus literally gives her the best move my saying play bishop b5 because from that position she can bishop A3 to defend the outpost for the knight which he would respond with blocking with his pawn which gives her a pawn on the bishop b5 square.       @@jimbowardoable Most good chess openings have names. Some openings are more attacking than others. The Catalan is a sharp and dynamic opening and fun to play. Some continuations require deeper study - “theoretical” in this sense means deeply studied. She’s worried that he is playing a continuation she is unfamiliar with. 👍

    What am I missing? When she paused and he was saying tactics, she could have forked the king and his rook, he would have taken her knight with his non forked rook, then she could have won a rook by taking with her rook revealed by the knight.
