Because of the pre-release nature of this content (kindly sponsored by Civ 7!), the next episode will be released next week. The full "review" embargo lifts on February 3rd, which lifts many content restrictions so you can expect a LOT more Civ 7 content starting then! What Leader / Civ are you most excited to see?
Please Google pronunciation of Maius [Mai-yoos] which means Great (and the few other words we all don’t know) I would rather have that than the years of words like Limez 🤦♂️😂
Legatus settlement power is more related to the fact that veteran legionnaire were given a land when they ended their service and were usually used to colonize newly conquered area this way.
Also becoming a legate, a military leader, was a step on the cursus honorum, the Roman semi-meritocratic system of promotion. And those people would then get given governorship over frontier provinces (which civ represents by allowing them to construct a settlement and thus grow the borders) after proving reliable war leaders. (like how Ceasar started out fighting pirates in Dalmatia, then insurgents in Iberia and eventually getting Gaul, and the rest is, as they say, history)
No one else explains strategy games like Quill. One of the best to do it, and really makes understanding mechanics of a new game easy to understand. Thank you sir.
Hey Quill18! So happy to comment for the first time. I watch your channel since a few years now because of RimWorld especially but now you've become my most watch channel. Never commented tough since I watch your videos way after they are uploaded but since Civ is my oldest game passion (I play since the 2000's) through Civ IV, V and VI (and btw absolutely right that Civ IV is by far my favorite! 😄) and because I wanted to know if I was going to buy Civ VII, I just watch this man I'm sold. I will preorder right away. Great video as always and keep up the great work you do! Take care!
Great job Quill! I've seen several Civ 7, preview play throughs, but since you all only had an hour you could show, many seemed rushed....good...but rushed. This pacing was excellent!. Even though I've heard most of what you discuss here, the pacing of this video increased my understanding of some concepts exponentially. Cannot wait for the full release and the videos that will follow. 🙂 Cheers!
placing cities in desert with this new way to work tiles may end up better than in previous versions. I saw the other videos you made, if you can outsource food and gold from towns you can probably find some odd ways to make super science/culture/other focused cities more easily.
Not working the city tile doesn't really change the dynamic of wanting to place the city on a hill, it just flips it. You now want to put your city on a bad tile if possible.
I was thinking of experimenting as Isabella and Han China. In Civ V, Spain could be very spread apart due to seek out and settling at natural wonders which could lead to military threats, so I figure if Isabella gets the natural wonder bonus, I'll settle like before, but then build the Great Wall and try and turtle around the natural wonders.
This is not a sci-fi game… except when we used to find a tribe before the end of the game and they would share Rocketry with you allowing you to start on the Apollo Project.
Excellent video Quill! I have played Civilizations from 4-6 and I never really stick to it. I end up with decision paralysis and have trouble keeping up with everything (side affect of ADHD unfortunately). I really like what I'm seeing with Civ 7 and this video was posted at the absolute best time. I hope you plan on continuing this beginner series. Love how Indepth you go with the 'why' when you make decisions. I do have one question, what keeps these games from just being a min/max paradise? Never really liked when a game devolved into that being the only good choice.
Just spent my day watching your original Civ VI tutorial series because I’m so rusty, played it for 4 hours, then on a whim went back to Civ V… man… all I need to know is if playing Tall is viable in Civ VII because DAMN I miss it. Civ V feels so nice :(
I feel like they finally nailed natural border growth, which was kinda janky in civ 5 and 6, with how it took your control away from you. The amount of times I've seen the tile-picker pick some useless tile, I stg! Here you expand in a direction to get to your resources and by your own priorities, which feels very immersive to me.
With the percentage bonuses to production for example does it round or does it takes decimals into account? With production for example does it help from the start and adds decimals or only when you get to multiples of 8 production so 15% gets you 1 extra production ?
26:38 Have they said that populated tiles are self-sustaining and the yields are a bonus? Does this mean that the amount of food to grow each unit is flat? This is the first time I've heard someone say this, and I'm puzzling through the mechanics of it.
I do hope some of the UI elements got one or two more passes between this build and the final but otherwise I'm really on board with everything I've seen about this game
I wish I could play a game like this anymore, but sadly I can't these days, not without someone to assist me. One thing I haven't seen yet is any eye candy (Yes I know that comes into contradiction with what I just said, don't at me). I don't know if that's part of the content restrictions or if it's just missing from the game. Because if the latter, then that would be a big negative for me. I'm talking about things like in game dialogue with other leaders, wonder movies and even the audio snippets from when you complete a tech advance. (Again, don't at me, I know that's more ear candy than eye candy, my point still stands)
Donkey Kong Country Returns HD ad showed up before the video started. Which made me think about how your title has #sponsored in it. It made me think they are the sponsors
really looking forward to the game... but what kills me in all the new games are those lifeless menu's, its a history game, it should have more character to it. oh well... I guess we can live with that...
I can't help but feel like including Mementos is a mistake when making a tutorial for complete beginners, who likely won't have to worry about them in their first game.
This is giving me Age of Empires 2 vibes. I used to 1v5 people. How's the competitive aspect of this game? If the PvP is legit this may become my main game.
You helped me understand Civ. And now I do understand it very well - but whenever I see CIV video from you, I click, I watch and I applause. Thank you!
Is it just me, or does the whole combination of researching two special civics/techs to build 2 unique buildings to equal one unique district seem like unnecessary busy-work?
Second! Also, can’t wait to play the game, I remember the first time I ever played a civ game was a free trial of Civ 6 on my iPad years ago and I instantly fell in love with the franchise.

I haven't looked that closely at the civs or leaders, so any of them!
Do you know if UI will be improved before the release? Because I'm genuinely considering refunding my founders edition...
Please Google pronunciation of Maius [Mai-yoos] which means Great (and the few other words we all don’t know)
I would rather have that than the years of words like Limez 🤦♂️😂
Exerkitus, you young whippersnappers pronouncing the c as s upsetting the elders in Rome.
@@XouXin Quill recommending UI mods in a couple of sentences and three months later…
So that's why it's called Civ 7 - we get to see 7 turns per video
😂
The 3rd can't come soon enough!
Never knew you played civ 1
i can be happy with 0 turns per video... if the game worth it
But that’s what I love. These are so much better than the speed videos you see so often and coming from Quill is the perfect cherry on top😊

As a civ 6 player, I wasn't really 'getting' Civ 7 until your video, you explain everything perfectly as always ♡
The dude is talented!
placing cities in desert with this new way to work tiles may end up better than in previous versions. I saw the other videos you made, if you can outsource food and gold from towns you can probably find some odd ways to make super science/culture/other focused cities more easily.
That's a good point!
It feels like civ 7 has been 3 weeks away from release for a month already 😂. Cannot wait to play it myself.
Years ago, your videos helped me learn how to be a better Civ 5 player. Glad you're still here making great content!
I'm here until Civ 18!
@@quill18 But but...19? =(
Always look forward to the tutorial type content from quill to get me going, excellent explanations. Looking forward to Civilization VII now!!
Congrats on the sponsored tutorial! Way to represent Canuckistan! 🇨🇦

First play as always, Egypt or Rome. The quintessential classics. Quillessential one might say?
Quillessentia may be going a bit far...

This is perfect! Exactly what I was looking for.
This is awesome! Been here since you switched from Civ IV to Civ V in that final play through as Rome.
This is not a sci-fi game… except when we used to find a tribe before the end of the game and they would share Rocketry with you allowing you to start on the Apollo Project.
You've come a long way, since your first Civilization 4 play through, and today Sponsored by the GOATs

Quill! Stop making me want to buy this game! (seriously though, thank you for the run through!)
You're tutorial on civ6 was the reason I got interested in these types of games all together. Really excited for the civ7 videos, cheers!
That's cool!
Hi Martin!
I'm looking forward to the next video. This might end up being your best series ever!
His name is Quill 😡
Holy Toledo, the Imago Mundi ability is nuts!
Just spent my day watching your original Civ VI tutorial series because I’m so rusty, played it for 4 hours, then on a whim went back to Civ V… man… all I need to know is if playing Tall is viable in Civ VII because DAMN I miss it. Civ V feels so nice :(

I can't wait for it's release!
Thank you so much for the video! You really have a gift for explaining things in the game. Can't wait to see more!
Thank you for doing this. Your series on Civ 6 helped prep me before I bought the game
GREAT video! Looking forward to the next one
Very informative and entertaining video Quill, very much looking forward to the rest of the series! :)
Nicely done … I do like your approach to these vids!
Amazing, well done!
I keep going back and forth on that civ and leader for my first game
Quill, 7 turns in 33 minutes? Calm down! This is a marathon, not a sprint 😄
Thanks Quill. Looking forward to our next lesson.
Dang, congrats on the sponsor.
nice, looking forward to see you play
Super helpful video. Thanks man 😊
Im glad to see Civ 7 has an Andrew Scout
thank you quill for giving us an tutorial
This will be my first Civ game so im looking forward to following along with your videos :)
Looking forward to this game

We love Quill!
pt: 2 should be a hour long 😂, awesome vid quill.
Do the gold hexes in the fog of war mean anything?
Quill18 play Legend of Revolution Civ 4 mod.
Watching this as if I do not have thousands of hours in CIV games.
You know, there might be kids that play this who were born when you first released a lets play Civ on this channel...
I didn’t expect it to have events like paradox games
Are you planning on updgrading to 4k? Really adds value to the content, especially on beautifull games like civ7.
Alright! More Civ content to help pass some time :D
Engagement 😊 can’t wait for the play through
26:38 Have they said that populated tiles are self-sustaining and the yields are a bonus? Does this mean that the amount of food to grow each unit is flat?
This is the first time I've heard someone say this, and I'm puzzling through the mechanics of it.
I don't think the food-to-grow is flat (it's never been flat previously). I do think normal pops no longer consume food or happiness.
Is it next week yet?
Whoever designed the UI deserves to be put in jail forever
Yes thank you! I hate it too it looks "cheap" or no character or bland I don't know how to describe it english is not my best language.
Idk for me it looks simple and cool not too eye catchy i want to enjoy the game not the ui
When I clicked on the video I thought it was a potato mcwhiskey cameo, never realised how similar you both sound til now
It would be a chaos to have both in same video!
😂
Do we not get pop count on settlement screen or am I being blind again?
I do hope some of the UI elements got one or two more passes between this build and the final but otherwise I'm really on board with everything I've seen about this game
What happens in civ 7 if you wipe out everyone in the first age? Do you progress to the next alone?
I wish I could play a game like this anymore, but sadly I can't these days, not without someone to assist me.

I just hope this AI will be more unpredictable, and more fun to play against.
What is the point of a game time embargo? To drum up hype?
12:36 - Quill, wrong? Inconceivable!
Hello, there is no more fresh water mechanics in game ?
wow, immediate reveal of iron and horsies, without waiting for those pesky technologies which made Indo-Europeans masters of this world.
Do you think the console version will be good? I don’t have a gaming pc but I have a ps5. Thanks for the video!
They forgot to change the marketing material from "empire" to "empires". You don't guide one empire anymore. :P
Do the resources move to the next era or do they disappear and new ones appear?
I've read a blog on this, they said some are unique to the age you're playing in, while other more important resources stay throughout each age
@MadHatter4321 I must have missed that. Otherwise the map will become too littered so glad they took that approach
They don't call him Shill18 for nothing.
woo! Sevenlization!
Is the AI a lot smarter? Is difficulty still just “give the npc’s more free gold, units and settlers?”
Donkey Kong Country Returns HD ad showed up before the video started. Which made me think about how your title has #sponsored in it. It made me think they are the sponsors
Why does it feel like Humankind? I keep getting those vibes.
No lie Quill, I thought I accidentally thought it was a PotatoMcWhiskey video lol
Londinium or London? What are you talking about? Are these some kind of mythical places? Maybe the capital of Belgium? Never heard of the place!
really looking forward to the game... but what kills me in all the new games are those lifeless menu's, its a history game, it should have more character to it. oh well... I guess we can live with that...
Can you rename your cities?
hold on i distinctly remember you played babylon when 5 first came out
My initial feels are that the art style is wayyyy better than Civ 6
Idk why we are still getting videos in 1080p
hey, how exciting!
What?! Is this the real Quill18?! Only 6 minutes before unpausing the game! Impostor!
Looks great but why in the hell you get food for building a mine?
I think I am going to really, really miss map tacks.
I can't help but feel like including Mementos is a mistake when making a tutorial for complete beginners, who likely won't have to worry about them in their first game.
I'd say this is not for complete beginners, it clearly assumes that you know some of the game concepts.
Ufff... I watch those videos a lot. Really want to like this game, but the only thing i like is how the world looks. That's it. 😢
Where's part 2?
Wait, did he say Rome is Spinaltap? Because they can turn it up to 11?
Ja, Artillerie ist die Mutter aller Waffengattungen! Range ftw!
This is giving me Age of Empires 2 vibes. I used to 1v5 people. How's the competitive aspect of this game? If the PvP is legit this may become my main game.
quill, I need more
I'm so torn. I am usually not one to be bothered about price tags but 70€ is just way too high.
You helped me understand Civ. And now I do understand it very well - but whenever I see CIV video from you, I click, I watch and I applause.
Thank you!
It dont look nothing better than CIV 6
Looks great. Unlucky that they have denuvo, Civ 7 will be the first civ I won't buy.
I will Play Rome!🎉
Is it just me, or does the whole combination of researching two special civics/techs to build 2 unique buildings to equal one unique district seem like unnecessary busy-work?
