    Punk's hype was not a fluke. Punk left WWE in 2014, the interviewer was still asking Cody about Punk in 2018. That itself indicates how relevant and hyped-up Punk was all this time.

      @@tgarriivmea Punk was offered job opportunities by many Wrestling promotions. He declined AEW too in its initial days. Probably because the money was not right enough. At the end of the day, just like Vince once said "Everyone has a price". Tony probably put an extra zero to what the Bucks initially offered him and got Punk. Irrespective of being positive or negative, Punk was always a matter of discussion. Punk probably was not the only guy whom the Bucks approached and declined the offer. But Punk made the news. That’s the problem, you should believe your own hype, Austin, Rock and Hunter all did and it got them far. Everyone makes such a big deal about Punk when it’s completely normal for him (at that point in time) to feel that way…10 years he’s still the main attraction

    • @yankeemania2345
      @yankeemania2345 11 месяцев назад +10

      True and it shows too because you have to bet on yourself and let the fans do the talking. LA Knight is a great example of that for modern day WWE. Bet on yourself, let fans believe the hype and mystique of your character, it has worked very well for Punk since his return in AEW a while back and now WWE and I am not talking about backstage, more about sales and overall impact.

      Everyone knows he should have main evented. Punk was so hot at the time, nobody was close. When Punk is on and not causing issues like he did in AEW, dude is one of the top entertainers in the world. Hopefully the Punk we see in WWE now will do the things that make him great and not get caught up in politics. As the politics in the back have to be much less than when Vince was there. I think wrestling is better when Punk is in it, but that with the idea he's bought in.

    • @uria2001
      @uria2001 11 месяцев назад +4

      @@btdaniels9028 I'm like you I look at it logical. Nothing is ever just one person fault. He had his part in the things that happened in AEW. Just like the EVPs, Hangman, Jungle Boy, and even Tony Kahn. The thing about WWE they always had a boss to not let things escalate to the level it did in AEW. So, that's where Tony Kahn fails. The EVPS being a big part of decision-making in the company should have realized to not go into a room with someone whose is that worked up. Lets things calm down and most likely get a mediator. Punk is a grown adult who doesn't have a filter when sometimes you need one. Don't do things like that in front of the media, especially next to the "boss." You put everyone in a compromising position. So, no, not everything was Punks fault, but he has his share of the pie of blame just like the rest do.

    The story I remember about Punk declining AEW the first time was that he just got a random text from Tony, whom he'd never given his number. And his thought was "if your way of trying to get me to take this risk (on a brand new IP/company) is to offer me a job through a text, you can't be serious about business". Thats why he waited to see how it went.
    How prophetic if true. Tony isn't just too nervous to be a boss, he's too nervous to CALL this guy like a man, so he sent him a text.

    As I recall from Punk's interview with Renee, he was waiting for a solid TV deal to believe AEW wasn't just going to be another TNA, GCW, ECW, etc, and then the pandemic lockdowns came along and he didn't want to just appear in front of televisions in the stands or the boys (they really wasted Matt Hardy's move that way) or some drones circling around. In 2018, AEW didn't exist yet, nor was he interested in going back to ROH. 2018's All In was a proof of concept, but the money really wasn't there to interest folks who still likely had millions banked away. Other than Rey Mysterio, Bully Ray and Cody, there wasn't anyone with solid WWE experience (or money earnings) on the show.

    I didn't see WM30, so maybe I don't have the proper context, but Punk's "I don't need you, you need me" comment doesn't come off as him thinking he's a dangerous man, but a big asset in showbiz; kinda like how Marlon Brando knew people benefitted from his name so much that he didn't bother trying on the job towards the end (only Punk never phoned it in)...The fact that Punk tried his hand at MMA might mean he really did think he was dangerous but it doesn't necessarily mean his WM30 comment was anything more than knowing his value as a performer in WWE.
