    • @TheRealAhoy
      @TheRealAhoy Месяц назад +3

      I'm sure Vince thought that the 40 something year old DDP who was retired within a year anyway wasn't the future and he'd be best on giving opportunities to his younger stars who already earned their pushes, y'know, like Edge, Christian, Jeff Hardy? They all had big concentrated pushes in 2001, along with Test, who had a brilliant 2001 and was believable as a potential main eventer one day. We should just stall all of their progress because of some fantasy booking nonsense?

    • @camschuster5947
      @camschuster5947 Месяц назад +5

      @@TheRealAhoy completely understandable. But Rock did a two month program with Booker T, I feel like there could’ve been some time there for one match. Of course Rock would go over but just to see that interaction while Dallas had gas left in the tank would’ve been amazing.

    • @TheRealAhoy
      @TheRealAhoy Месяц назад +2

      @@camschuster5947 Would it really though? DDP with the peoples champ moniker was never anywhere close to as over as Rock with that moniker. Rock had been building that in to every promo since early 98, DDP never referred to himself as that, DDP put over the diamond cutter more than the peoples champ moniker.
      It's just fantasy booking. It's like putting Chad Gable against Kurt Angle just because they have similarities, and it seems like a match with both in their primes would go over very well, but it would bury DDP/Gable as being a flimsy imposter of the real version. Why go out of the way to highlight a massive inferiority instead of trying to do that that could work?
      The most successful gimmicks don't get over fast, they tread water for a while and then eventually catch on. DDP wasn't working out, but he began getting over as the smiling motivator, even the "that's not a bad thing, that's a good thing" catchphrase began getting over. I think Vince was more interested in finding a place DDP could fit in within his show than exploiting a massive inferiority of his instead.

      @JShadow6661 this is almost true. Nash and Hall actually helped put over DDP. The segment where DDP pretended to join the NWO, but then got one over on the Outsiders was Hall and Nashs' idea. Also, DDP in 97 main evented multiple ppvs as a non champion, went over Savage in their feud. That said WCW didn't know what to do with his momentum because they killed it with a bunch of high profile losses after his red hot feud with Savage. That was one of the many dumb things WCW did.

    One thing he's dead ass wrong is saying he was above rock at the time. Rock eclipsed him by the last few months of Corporate Rock. It's crazy as hell for him to say that he was above Rock by the time he was moving over to WWF.

    I can understand why Vince was like "who TF is this guy" because think About it DDP was out of a job, he was a WCW mainstay, had pretty much no leverage because WCW was now gone, the Rock was becoming a huge Hollywood star at the time, Vince brings DDP in to work an angle with the Undertaker already a big name to work with right away, but then he says no he wants to wait for the Rock and work with him. Vince probably thought who TF does this guy think he is? I understand both points. Plus DDP was getting up there in age.
