Dudley - just want you to know that you have brought so much enjoyment to so many people with your talents. Your music has gotten me through really terrible times and I'm thankful for you for being there with me and seeing me through.
What a funny, talented and beautiful man he was. So tragic he died so young. Loved him in Bedazzled, 10, Arthur 1 & 2 and Like Father, Like Son. RIP you amazing and charming man! My favorite is LFLS when he calls sick to work, ::"Hi Norman this is Chris is father Dr. Hammond, I won't be coming gin today because I have 120 hour flu and a slight case of larynges, please advise all my calls to Dr. Roger Howmeir."
so sad I heard an interview with him just before he died where he said that he had wasted his life and that he should have concentrated on his music such a tortured person. His lecturer at oxford university said in his entire career Dudley Moore was the only true genius he ever taught.Musician actor comidian and all round decent human being sadly missed
Whybwould he think he wasted his knee when he still contributed to music and accomplished a lot artistically in general? Didn't he write this song too? Even if not, he still composed other pieeces..wonder why he thought that..
So very, very grateful that these clips exist. What an extraordinary human being and artist. I get very emotional whenever I hear him play. Almost too beautiful to bear.
I may be from a different era , But my God Dudley Moore was a brilliant and bright talent that does not come along very often and we will all miss him..
I had no idea of his musical genius. What a fantastic gift to wake up to on a rainy Sunday morning listening to this magnificent piece of music. If only todays artists were half as talented.
@Charlie Pepper - apologies this response is a year later but if you liked this I can recommend an album called Jazz, Blues & Moore by the Dudley Moore Trio. Basically, any recording of Dudley playing is blissful. I have just rediscovered him myself and am mesmerised by his talent. I can’t stop playing one RUclips video in particular, it is called Waltz for Suzy (probably written for his ex-wife Suzy Kendall, who he still adored until his death. Here’s the link to it. Enjoy!! ruclips.net/video/1wrMI7NlDvc/видео.html
We all know Dudley for being the genius funny man that he is, but his musical talent is way beyond that!!! Words fail me when I hear him on the piano!! Up there with the greats!!
It makes me sick that we now scrape the barrel for entertainment these days. This man came from Dagenham, Essex. All people talk about is the only ways Essex! It's just a sad indictment to what people these days will except as "talent" and entertainment. It's so sad, really. This man was one of the greatest entertainers England has ever produced. He had style, character, talent, charm, brains, education, wit. Dudley Moore was the complete package. Gone, but never forgotten.
I remember watching a TV special that had Moore on and he played jazz, pop and classical piano pieces. I was amazed at how he could go from one genre of music to another and do it seamlessly. A very gifted man, on many levels, who was taken from us too soon.
with everything he did after beyond the fringe it is often forgotten he was an organ scholar at cambridge, classically trained and a brilliant jazz pianist. he also composed.
Roy Thomas He was organ scholar at Magdalen college, Oxford. If you enter the chapel you will see his name on the board at the top of the stairs, near the organ. He also played the violin to a fairly high standard. But his jazz piano playing is worthy of comparison with all the greats...😊😁
I'm 58. Grew up knowing this man, grew up ignoring this genius. I'm only now learning and discovering how much of a genius he was. I'm sorry Sir I'm doing this so late. From Italy.
He's tormented no longer. If his dying words were truly, "I can hear the music all around me"; then he made it to heaven and he can play the piano and act 'til his heart is content. 🙏
This song I dedicate to my beloved boyfriend, Bud McCrory, who passed away just last September 15, 2022. I can live forever on those twelve years we had together. I will love only him till my last breath.
He was a deeply emotional man who could hide that sad depth in comedy. A lovely soul for all time, place or individual. The loss of talents like these always seems to come too early, their lives get crushed in such cruel ways.
What you see here is Dudley's musicality. Before he took Hollywood by storm, and while he was a huge comedy name in the UK - THIS was the kind of genius we in Gt. Britain saw and heard every week with Peter Cook and Dudley Moore. ruclips.net/video/GazlqD4mLvw/видео.html
Loved to watch him in movies and at the piano. Loved him in laughter and tears. Thank you Dudley for being a part of all of our lives. Till we meet again🌷
I sense a non- arrogant Pianist that greets all adversity with a smile. and performs with beauty and a smile. Perhaps adding to his gorgeous style of play is the Romantic nature of the piece he performs. This speaks to how deep emotionally this man was. I saw an R.I.P. When did he pass & what were the circumstances? Bravo Dudley & thanks, Luckysmusic
nemo227 1st , Thank you for response in kind. After I posted that part< I saw the info in which you refer to. Sounds like it's a progressive condition that manifests in & of itself as one ages. I have my Father's Merck manual. Could check it out there as well. THX
This is such a beautiful piece of piano played by genius in his field of entertainment. A talent lost ,sadly not terribly appreciated or remembered. Can we really forget so quickly those that have entertained and shown us so much in the field of escapism and showmanship.
How we miss the enormous talent of Dudley, great actor of comedy and drama, exquisite composer and pianist, a very complete artist. All the works he did were of great quality. Sad was the way his illness ended his last days. It would be widely deserved that from time to time tribute be paid to him for everything he offered in his multiple artistic betas. My most recognized memory towards his person.
I wonder who or what he was thinking of when he played that piece. He has such a beautifully pained expression on his face. His eyes say so much. It's so wonderful. We miss you Dudley and God bless. :0)
He won a music scholarship to Magdalen College, Oxford, to study the organ. At university, he also studied composition and became a classically trained pianist, though his forte on the piano for public performance was jazz.
Did you hear U.K.'s Radio 2's replaying of the Albert Hall concert? It was on, Friday evening, 2nd of March, 2012 .... so funny, after the first short pieces, he said, "Right, I'll be off now, then..." The 'Bedazzled' medley was unexpectedly lovely... But I was delighted to hear it all end with "Die Flabbergast" : what a genius! Dreadfully sad, but you could do a lot worse than win so many people's hearts from giving so much music and humour.Hope he was comforted to know he was so loved.
Dudley Moore, like Steve Martin, was always better than the movies he starred in. He was enormously talented in so many areas. He could play drama, comedy & satire, and of course music. Arthur would have been a dull movie without him. I wonder how many people cried while watching this video clip. Very touching in so many ways. Dudley Moore brought me years of happiness which is much more than my x-wife ever did. A true credit to the human race.
Such a gorgeous song from “10”. He captivated so many with his playing of this masterpiece. He will ALWAYS be cherished for his genius as an outstanding pianist.
How i wish i could play piano, having given up when entering teenage, perhaps my biggest regret. Watching masters like DM just reminds me of what a bad decision that was. Brilliant stuff
I remember in my teens my music choices were jazz and big band. I had learned of multiple musical geniuses and writers. But when my brother told me about his musical talent I doubted, and then I listened and was a fan. I can appreciate any type of music. Except todays bs. Bc it's legit not real music
Gracious me you could hear a pin drop such is the rapt attention of the audience. When his health was failing Dudley was quoted as saying it was the loss of his piano playing ability that hurt more than the loss of speech & mobility. His jazz writing & playing skills were so eclipsed by his acting & comedy roles that only those who knew him well knew of his deep love of music. In his UK TV interviews & after all the jolly banter & celebrity luvvy talk he would nearly always end up playing something moving & reflective on the piano, more often than not something he composed himself. RIP a lovely man.
i saw the movie "10" which starred playboy playmate bo derek.. uhm, but i can't remember this theme and how it was incorporated in the movie. well, maybe b'coz it was so long ago... ha ha ha ha.. honestly, i love the piece. it is so serene.. almost heavenly... : )
A lovely thing to say! Though I did not know him, (I am a generation younger), I was born not a mile away from where he grew up. Coming from such a humble background, he achieved so much. Undouble he was a genius.
This piece of music is so hauntingly beautiful and yet calms you. Dudley Moore was an accomplished actor but was even more of an accomplished musician. His skill on the piano in this piece is amazing.

He gave the world loads of moments of joy, that's definitely not a life wasted. His personality is already inspiring to many.
He was brilliant. The problem was he could do many things extremely well. He would have been great company. I am sorry he's gone. I miss him.
Towards the end he said he did not want his 2 sons visiting him as he did not want them remembering him like that.
Rena Fruchter was holding Moore's hand when he died; she reported his final words were "I can hear the music all around me."

Not on the piano, but for innate musical talent, humor, and whose personality sweeps others away, I'd put Josh Groban in his league as well.
