This is a wonderful version of the Great Melissa Manchester classic. Diana should of won that season. Fantasia was always in the bottom. Thanks for the post.
I read somewhere that this was the first time they had the contestants wear the ear pieces and when she went off key she said there was a loud noise that went through her ear piece and it messed her up.
one of the rare moments where simon is absolutely right, in american idol, NEVER repeat a song, you did it good the first time, leave it and be better.
I shouldn't be too hard on Diana...she can sing as well or better than many of the artists out there nowadays...she will become more consistent as she matures
This reminds me of AI2 top 3 when producers told Clay on really short notice that he had to rearrange his first song. Understandably, Clay had a moment during the performance where he wasn't sure what part of the song he was at and stopped singing. He recovered well and the studio audience was told what happened but not the viewers. We just saw him getting criticized for forgetting the words. These "fiascos" can't be coincidences, as they happen to the frontrunners.
I didn't think that her version of this was that bad, yeah she had a little trouble at some parts, but it still was good! This is a tough song to sing, and I think she did a great job! I wish more singers would do this type of music nowadays, we need more music that is relaxing and romantic! that is why I love the 70's music, it was so relaxing.
There were problems with her earpiece. She said in some interview that she couldn't hear herself for most of the song and then had a loud sound burst in her ear at the pointw here she went off key. I remember being so sad when that happened because you could tell something was wrong with the audio, her face said it all.
I'll admit she got fuzzy there in the middle, but for someone who's equipment stopped working she managed to salvage it. The ending was very powerful and on pitch. Of course it wasn't as good as her previous rendition, but it wasn't a total trainwreck.
sboudreaux27 well that 'upset' was pure garbage....because everybody knew Adam should've won....but his sexuality came out the week before the finale....that was one of the biggest travesties in history of that show
cred ca acesta solista cant mai bine ca orcine acest cantec sincer caoricare alta cantareata care la cantat bravo diana degarmo most cool voice ay listen onest wery got singer end is voice is treue from haven
To nail this competition? Whatever! Everyone knew Fantasia was gonna win at that point. Such a stupid argument that she could have swung all the votes and won American Idol when she was up against a BRILLIANT and AMAZING singer.
Back when Idol was still awesome, fun to watch and everyone anticipated the finale. Now someone asks if you saw Idol it is almost always, "Hell no!". Or who won Idol? "No Clue", and that is despite having celebrity judges. They should have killed Idol on a high, rather than a low.
I feel bad for her in this performance...the way that they ragged on her, I mean. She really IS an amazing performer with a stellar voice. I was PISSED when she didn't win that season.
What has been said happened was that they were wearing those earpieces on their ears and when she went to do the middle of the song a very loud high pitched screeching sound happened in her earpiece and after that the audio in her ear went out and it threw her off. I totally understand. I mean she was only 16 when she did this and she was probably nervous as it was and then when that happened it threw her off. And if you watch her facial expression in the middle of the song and when she goes to sing feelings, you can see in her face when it happened.
@@tbewin1z143 no I’m not saying the producers did it on purpose. From what I’ve heard and read is that basically there was a tech issue with her inner ear piece. Which makes sense to me because I feel like you can tell the moment it happens. She immediately like goes off key and can’t seem to find the right key. So it makes sense if there was a loud screeching noise in her inner ear that most likely made her go off key and then her inner ears stopped working so she couldn’t hear herself and probably couldn’t hear the music so she couldn’t seem to get back on key.
@@zach3431 100%, that was me insinuating that it was on purpose. The show did a lot of shady things in the early seasons, and i'd bet money it was on purpose!!!
I wish that I could supplement the vocals from the first version with this performance because she looks prettier in this peformance but sang better in the first performance of this song.
Baby cried the day the circus came to town, 'Cause she didn't want parades just passing by her. So she painted on a smile and then took up with some clown, While she danced without a net upon the wire. I know a lot about her, 'cause you see, Baby, is an awful lot like me. Don't cry out loud, Just keep it inside, And learn how to hide your feelings. Fly high and proud. And if you should fall, Remember you almost had it all. Baby saw that when they pulled that big top down, They left behind her dreams among the litter. And the different kind of love she thought she'd found, There was nothing left but sawdust and some glitter. But Baby can't be broken, 'cause you see, She had the finest teacher, that was me. I told her: Don't cry out loud, Just keep it inside, And learn how to hide your feelings. Fly high and proud. And if you should fall, Remember you almost had it all. Don't cry out loud, Just keep it inside, And learn how to hide your feelings. Fly high and proud. And if you should fall, Remember you almost made it. Don't cry out loud, Just keep it inside, And learn how to hide your feelings. Fly high and proud. And if you should fall, Remember you almost had it all.
How dare they criticize that small moment, when every other was just like her top 3 rendition! I mean, I'd like to know what they say if that didn't happen. I hear that happened on purpose so she wouldn't win. i wouldn't be surprised. |:O
Simon says that after Fantasia sang Summertime that it was a hard act to follow and Diana kinda of lost it. When I heard her off key, I thought it was me not hearing well. With diana's voice, I dont see how she did this. Maybe her voice was still developing she was only 16...
@holdon8 want to hear it longer, I swear you'll love this cover, and she's only 12. She won this regional talent show with this rendition.. tell me I'm wrong.. look up brittany tara
that doesn't mean you're picky. it's true. they should have commented on the rest, the rest was phenomenal, I mean, that ending was incredible again. and everything else was damn good! but you know that's how it works
Ehh not exactly. In Katharine's case, IIRC, the earpiece didn't work when she was supposed to start her song so she didn't know what note to start on for the beginning a capella part of SOTR. Here with Diana, the earpiece supposedly messes up in the middle of the song.
Want to hear it better, I swear you'll love this cover, and she's only 12. She won this regional talent show with this rendition.. tell me I'm wrong.. look up brittany tara
@DWSMusic93 i completely agree. they acted like such jackasses toward her even when she did great. they just wanted Fantasia to win because she had a 'life story'.
i'm sad. if she had won, we might actually hear about diana nowadays besides broadway stuff. on a brighter note, she looks really pretty in this video.
you guys need to realize that one little bit in the song doesn't make it a horrible performance. that was the only part wrong with it. other than that it was absolutely fantastic
i also just wanted to add... what if it didn't happen? how would the judges' opinions have changed? simon obviously wanted fantasia to win, so i'd just be curious to see what he would have had to say.
I actually think that the one incident of her going off-key (as a result of the whole earpiece controversy) DID cost her the competition; apparently, only a few thousand votes - out of TENS OF MILLIONS - separated Fantasia from Diana in the final tally.
She Lost Because Of This Song..... She Learned A Lesson Here.... U Cannot Duplicate MAGIC... The First Time Was Brilliant... Simon Was Right.... She Was Nervous
@imbluz Well, there are many factors that affect the chances of winning of each contestant that all lead to just one important trait - APPEAL. Beauty and vocal prowess are part of it, but performance impact, the person's background or something else affect his/her APPEAL. Fantasia was probably more people APPEALING to people (especially die-hard voters) probably because of her "choir-like" energy on stage which made her earn more votes than Diana. 'Love 'em both...
Actually she hit some notes sharp, not flat. Singers often fear being flat (under the note's pitch) So they strive to go a bit sharp just in case. Diana overshot a couple of times.
I read in an interview that her earpiece wasn't working properly, so she couldn't hear the orchestra properly, and something like that is enough to unnerve someone to perform a lot worse than that.
How dare they judger her on that one mishap, the rest of the song was again, flawless! Damn...obviously something with the earpiece went wrong and that should not have kept her from winning.
@frisc0pn0ib0i You are right. I love Fantasia because she sings with conviction. Can't stand the yelling. I own all her CD's and I dont think the record label let's her do that bcuz she only yell's in live performances. Otherwise her tunes rock...
If she hadn't sung that one part really out of tune (earpiece malfunction, i know) I would say this was better than her original performance of it. I just think it was more dynamic and had much more emotion.
yeah...she's doing broadway and stuff..but thats what i hate is when they stop adn they do broadway- cus how are we ever suposed to hear from them-never
Is there something wrong with the audio? It sounds very tinny.... That being said with her nerves being what they probably were, still pretty awesome. A few mistakes, I remember watching with my mom and she was cringed when she sang this time, she was like "oh no she blew it."
oh she is. . that is like hardly any money unless you are celebrity!! UGH! i agree i hate when they do that like tamyra gray one of the best vocals on AI! now she does broadway!
no she had no trouble in her voice. . . i found out it was techincal problems such as the ear piece and the studio! i feel bad . . i like fantasia but she could have had if it were not because of those issues
to be able to handle such criticism with such strength & grace at 16 yrs old and not fall apart? truly commendable!
I have been listening to the album version for hours
Best song I cried the first time I heard her sing it.
I like diana degarmo. she's one of the few who have a very strong voice, solid talent. very sweet and courteous girl as well.
she is so, so , so amazing!
This is perhaps the best idol finale ever. Both Fantasia and Diana was doing very2 well. Except for some glitch here and there.
i think it's great to watch back from past seasons. you realize so quickly that what was amazing then would have gotten eliminated immediately now.
She still hit that ladt note perfectly!!
This is a wonderful version of the Great Melissa Manchester classic. Diana should of won that season. Fantasia was always in the bottom. Thanks for the post.
Tremendous singer, great voice ....
i agree totally sad. .
but now u barely hear of her . .
but i think she did some reality tv country show!
You can't repeat the song in the same way you did before, there's always a difference.
She's awesome.
I read somewhere that this was the first time they had the contestants wear the ear pieces and when she went off key she said there was a loud noise that went through her ear piece and it messed her up.
And if you are not used to working with in ears they take time getting used to them.
one of the rare moments where simon is absolutely right, in american idol, NEVER repeat a song, you did it good the first time, leave it and be better.
They had to repeat for the finale…
Exactly why singing the same songs? Producers wanted fantasia to win obviously
At least she got one. I don't see Diana on the shelves anywhere.
So much air coming through her chords and no interepretation...a 16 year old child simply does not have the life experience to sing this.
2:18 Simon and Paula look up at the exact ame time from the same position...LOL
I felt sooooo bad! if she did as well as she did the first time she would have won. She is sooo gifted
she was my fave from season 3 -hope she releases another cd
The "MOMENTS" did the best cover of this song that I ever heard!
I shouldn't be too hard on Diana...she can sing as well or better than many of the artists out there nowadays...she will become more consistent as she matures
she's the cutest person in the world

Was that during Vincent?
Yep spot on!!!
She is over it. She is on Broadway!!
Diana Degarmo has a cd. She has a small music career right now. She sang for disney channel original movie Ice Princess she sang Reaching for Heaven.
@holdon8 That's always been her talent, her breathing. Absolutely amazing.
for those of you that like her, watch her on the young and the restless soap opera, she is filling out her resume with an acting part now.
It’s 2022 & I remember this performance
There were problems with her earpiece. She said in some interview that she couldn't hear herself for most of the song and then had a loud sound burst in her ear at the pointw here she went off key. I remember being so sad when that happened because you could tell something was wrong with the audio, her face said it all.

It was still a great performance however she tried too hard and it ultimately cost her the title
Yep...She should have sung her disco number that killed the competition.
This song matches her situation here cuz she nearly won the competition. And she ended up being 2nd place.
sboudreaux27 well that 'upset' was pure garbage....because everybody knew Adam should've won....but his sexuality came out the week before the finale....that was one of the biggest travesties in history of that show
love u diana.....
how old is here when she sing this..
she look and sound much older then the enough is enough song form american idol
cflipow86,
every siger has off days. I remember all the singers were off that night they had moniter problems...look at the one from the week before.
Don't look down on Diana. She has improved TREMENDOUSLY since American Idol. NOT KIDDING. Go look up some of her newer performances.
