Diana had already known she lost. She had seen the results, and was asked to perform this song. Performing this song, with the strength of the lyrics, must have been unbelievably difficult. She was 16. Amazing kudos to her for this performance.
I saw an interview with her that she knew had lost when they asked her to sing this song again because she knew they wouldn’t have had her sing it in the middle of the finale and then again at the end if she had won.
@TheOfficalTrumpMan 2024 yea I knew about that as well. But there is also an interview where she said she knew she had lost by the song they asked her to sing.
This individual performance is why Diana DeGarmo was so awesome in Season 3. By this point, she knew that she had already lost, and yet was able to go out there and give one of her best performances in the entire season, fantastic. For someone that was only 16, knowing that she had already lost, brilliant composure, and despite what Simon always said, age was never an issue for her.
She ALREADY KNEW that she had lost in this performance. With THAT circumstance, and with THIS performance, i think it's an amazing and very emotional performance. Hands down for her.
Haven't heard this in years but have to say, she actually does a good job here. She sang this with a lot of passion and a lot of emotion, so it sounded really good. And, she looked cute, too! Have to take my hat off to her, this was really good:)
Amy Johansen This is the type of pop ballad that would be at the end of a Disney movie, which is Diana Dagarmo’s genre. Fantasia’s genre is more soul, jazz and blue which this song is not. Fantasia just has a edge on Diana in being able to switch genres and be more versatile. She sold the song better.
+Afiq Aziz Fantasia got better as well. I'm sorry but there is not competition, Diana can sing well but Fantasia is a stellar performer that always sings with passion. She's almost out generation's Patti tbh
Miss Diana Got the Talent needs a little fine tuning, but I believe she could be an Amzing super-Star ! Trust me on this one!! That Girl 100% has something I feel it!!! Movies/TV/ Award Shows/.. Etc.., Keep Flying Diana! Love Kelly n Canada
This is my favourite performance in all of American Idol. She is 16 in front of the world and at this moment she admitted later she already figured out she lost, but she still gives a pretty incredible performance even though at the start you can almost see her fighting back tears. Not her best, but damn she showed heart
@saushababetta you know it's not even about conditione or control...because even with it a true artist with a big soul, an amazing feeling, fantastic emotions and deep deep voice can bring people heaven when he sings. like Barbra Streisand said "it's the imperfection that makes things interesting." But Diana doesn't have anything of those things. She's only not so bad, nothing more.
I'm not going to say this was Diana's best performance but it was way better than the first time around and I still love it. If you ask me, her best performance was "One Voice".
They both did great. No matter what Diana is a great singer. I love Fantasia's version of this one, but Diana didn't make it there just because of her pretty face. She has some pipes on her!
That was nice she has a wonderful voice Her version was different than Fantasia's own but then maybe that song wasn't for her. Her voice is more of pop voice while tasia's own is rock soul r&b mixed.
while i do prefer fantasia's version, i saw this video and was blown away by Diana's soulful rendition. she's got her own interpretation, and it's not that i don't like it -- in fact, i love it -- but it's all a matter of taste. and i just prefer fantasia's rugged tone that many people don't like (which is totally understandable). loved diana's, nonetheless.
First of all, let's ALL get this straight: SOUL music is called that because the feeling of the song comes from the "down deep into" ones soul. If you're a singer and you can't move people with your song, or it doesn't make people feel something within, you DO NOT have soul, that DOES NOT mean you don't have A soul. Soul isn't a color!! And SECONDLY! Fantasia can sing ANYTHING within, AS WELL AS outside her "genre" WHATEVER THE FLUCK that sh!t means!! She's sang from George Gershwin to Barbra Streisand, so PLEASE! MISS ME and all others, talkin' 'bout that song wasn't Diana DeGarmo's "genre"! White folk LOVE IT when a fellow white singer emulates the "sounds of Blackness"! My people KNOW I ain't lyin'!! Y'all take them and parade them around as if they were the best thing since sliced bread! Case(s) in point: Elvis Pressley; Britney Spears.
So wow...here we are still playing and talking about the 2 performances. What I find that is most interesting is the comments that Fantasia's blessing and skills were inferior to Diana's. What planet were/are you people on??? Fantasia was absolutely FANTASTIC throughout her ENTIRE time. With each performance, they BOTH got better. But, clearly Diana's coach did not arrange her performances correctly, which is what added to the lack of experience, thereby her losing. But, she is making music now.
I think Diana should've chosen to sing "Dreams" and left Fantasia with this song. Diana did really great, but Fantasia nailed it way more. 'Love them both!
@midniterider78 i think they both did very well. fantasia has an unusual voice that ppl were intrigued about.. i think that's why she had an advantage. but they both are incredible singers. and diana degarmo is signed as well.
She had no chance!!! Just wasn't fair for her. She did ok, the best she could. But Fantasia tore this song up!!! Fantasia sang the h*** out of this song!! Diana didn't stand a chance!!!
Wow, I thought her performance wasn’t the best the night before. She went out of key a few times, especially the last note. This performance was perfect. She was on key the entire song and dialed back at the right moments and hit the high notes. I do think Fantasia’s voice fit the song better. But this performance changed my opinion on Diana’s performance the night before.
If u ask me, she was young then, and her vocal chords weren't stretched properly yet. So when she reaches high notes she ends up 'shouting' instead of singing. Experienced it when I was young.. Unlike Fantasia she had a mature voice and vocal chord already so she had more emotion in it and didn't sound like shouting. So that time Fantasia deserved it coz she was the better woman, but now with Diana older her vocal chord mature it might have been a tougher competition for fantasia.
Personally I liked Diana's version better than Fantasia's because Fantasia's voice is kind of raspy and Diana's is smoother. But I agree that Jennifer Hudson deserved to win this season.
And FYI people: Fantasia's video of this song has over 3 million views...not 300,000 but 3 MILLION!!!!!. Diana? just over 40,000. WOW. Hmmm I wonder why?? Do I REALLY need to state the obvious....lol.
YES!I ABSOLUTELY AGREE WITH YOU! JENNIFER SHOULD BE THE WINNER IN THIS SEASON! But,fortunately maybe, with out in Top 7,Jennifer mustn't sign a contract with Idol that maybe could make her career flat. Look at her now, with Oscar and many awards and release her debut album. You go,girl!
lol, look at the choir while Diana is singing, now go look at them in Fantasia video....they could not contain themselves while Fantasia was singing! They look bored here!
I bow. She definitely did not go down without a fight. She put everything into this performance. Respect
She sang it better this second time! She even poured more emotion here; and the ending was awesome!!!! Loved her! :P
She thought she won!
this night was sooooo much better than the first time she sang it. AWESOME!!!!
Diana had already known she lost. She had seen the results, and was asked to perform this song. Performing this song, with the strength of the lyrics, must have been unbelievably difficult. She was 16. Amazing kudos to her for this performance.
How do you know she already knew she lost?
I saw an interview with her that she knew had lost when they asked her to sing this song again because she knew they wouldn’t have had her sing it in the middle of the finale and then again at the end if she had won.
Not true
@@zach3431 Carrie did the same thing though
@TheOfficalTrumpMan 2024 yea I knew about that as well. But there is also an interview where she said she knew she had lost by the song they asked her to sing.
This individual performance is why Diana DeGarmo was so awesome in Season 3. By this point, she knew that she had already lost, and yet was able to go out there and give one of her best performances in the entire season, fantastic.
For someone that was only 16, knowing that she had already lost, brilliant composure, and despite what Simon always said, age was never an issue for her.
Dianna had a beautiful voice...Fantasia just nailed this song..The days when Idol was worth watching
I loved them both" but fantasia brung tears to my eyes" she is a true testimony that anything is possible if you believe❤
That and get lucky enough to be on a once-in-a-lifetime reality talent show!!!
I was a teen and so I voted with all I had for Diana. Looking back she was so young. The original teen powerhouse I still stan her today
SAME.
She ALREADY KNEW that she had lost in this performance. With THAT circumstance, and with THIS performance, i think it's an amazing and very emotional performance. Hands down for her.
The fact that both ladies released this song shows it’s a matter of preference for each fan.
That last note was amazing!! Don't think anybody could have "scooped" that note any better!
They both did fantastic ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Haven't heard this in years but have to say, she actually does a good job here. She sang this with a lot of passion and a lot of emotion, so it sounded really good. And, she looked cute, too! Have to take my hat off to her, this was really good:)
Okay, after listening to this again, this just reaffirms my belief that Fantasia blew the performance away. Like this song was WRITTEN FOR FANTASIA !
It was!!! The show wanted her to win from day one!!!
Wow!!! What A Very, Very Powerful Voice For Such A Young Lady. I would like to see Diana Degarmo and Fanastia performance together again.
I'm actually impressed, watching this back.
She did amazing !
A performance like this when she already knew that she didn't won ? PHENOMENAL .
Diana's version was a Pop in genre while Fantasia's was an R&B Soul in genre.
Leone Mendoza thank you. That’s the most accurate comparison I’ve seen
Am I the only one who thinks the song sounds great with either of them singing it?
She totally slayed the last part. Damn
Totally 100% Completely!!!!!
I love how they had Diana sing this early on Results night so it was obvious to anyone that Fantasia won. Lol.
Diana's version is sweet. Fantasia's is fierce!
Fantasia rock that song!🔥🔥
Diana is phenomenal. There's a very good reason why she got Eden Espinosa's spot as Brooklyn on tour.
this was all over the place!
Fantasia's rendition of " I believe" is what sealed the deal that night -...
+timbalandj Diana was 16 at that time. Give her a few more years and she'll seal Fantasia's mouth for good.
+Afiq Aziz lol no way. she's great but this is fantaisha your talking about
+Afiq Aziz Fantasia got better as well. I'm sorry but there is not competition, Diana can sing well but Fantasia is a stellar performer that always sings with passion. She's almost out generation's Patti tbh
+Afiq Aziz Fantasia was only 19. Diana can sing the only thing missing that Fantasia has was the heart. Pain from life will give you heart.
Lol lol your too funny, and delusional at that!!!!!!!!!!!
I love her voice
1:29 & on her vocals was on point & she killed amazing performance #2013 im mad late lml
Fantasia brought more feeling to the song.
Diana's best performance imo, she's one of the best idols ever
She did remarkably well for a 16-year-old.
She's only 16?
@@colinvanblaricom6573 at that time she was only 16
back then idol had 2 songs written specifically for the finale n the finalists get to choose. they both chose the same song sooooooo
This was sensational
The end was good. I get why people liked her.She is very talented. Fantasia just killed it though lol
awesome performance
Love her!!
First time watching this again since it aired...she didn't do too bad! Fantasia just killed it though.
Degarmo isn't a bad singer. She's just way too "raw" and "unseasoned" at this point.
that riff at 3:40 is NUTS!!!!! love her.
idol is still worth watching i have not missed an episode of idol ever well except for season 1 cause i didn't watch that one
People acted like she was 12 and Fantasia was 40. They both were teenagers. Fantasia became the song.
And now she is superstar in musical
Remember this was her encore performance. She was first, didn't do so well, Fantasia killed it and then she sang it again as a redemption.
She would be a good country singer!!
This is my favourite performance in all of American Idol. She is 16 in front of the world and at this moment she admitted later she already figured out she lost, but she still gives a pretty incredible performance even though at the start you can almost see her fighting back tears. Not her best, but damn she showed heart
@NOVAseminole Completely agree. Got nothing against Fantasia, but I honestly can't see why she won.
I'm still not over this.
I named my little sister after her. She was and is my favorite American Idol ever.. even if she didn't win (:
OMG AGREE

I loved this as well but there was something magical about fantasias/
I’m from Hawaii and my family was a Jasmine supporter but honestly, can you imagine her singing this song?🤣
You gotta see her in "Toxic Avenger" on Broadway!! She's hilarious!!! And awesome
I liked diana! I wish she had won!!!!
i agree
They both did great. No matter what Diana is a great singer. I love Fantasia's version of this one, but Diana didn't make it there just because of her pretty face. She has some pipes on her!
This song sounds better when SCREAM-SUNG.
Incredible Lady Di
She did what she needed to do, but she knew Fantasia was gonna win so she wanted to perform this song one more time lol She DID that.
are u joking????...she is SOOOOOOOOOOOO GGGGGGOOOOOOOODDDDDDDD....ONE OF THE BEST FEMALE SINGERS I HEAR....OOOOOOOOAUUUU
I was suprised she even made it to the final. That wsa a tough field with Jennifer Hudson and Latoya London. Good for her.
Exactly!
That was nice she has a wonderful voice
Her version was different than Fantasia's own but then maybe that song wasn't for her. Her voice is more of pop voice while tasia's own is rock soul r&b mixed.
she did sooo much better than the first time she sang it!!!!!
NICE PERFORMANCE
when it comes to voice...diana was perfect in this song...but Fantasia did it with feelings...either way, they are both great
Paula looked so impressed with Diana at 3:53
Fantasia has more distinctive voice! when you hear her you know its her, diana has an ok voice, compared to fantasia, but i like them both,, Kelly
she performs *high notes miraclelouslý*
Thats why #Fantasia won this comp.
------>still watching here 2017
She is great. To bad she didn't win the contest. Props to her. :-)

People. She was 16. Going up against a soul singer singing a soul song also written by a soulful writer. Cut her some slack...
***** And Fantasia was 19. The song was more Gospel than Soul.
So wow...here we are still playing and talking about the 2 performances. What I find that is most interesting is the comments that Fantasia's blessing and skills were inferior to Diana's. This girl would be perfect for David Archuleta. She's beautiful and she has an amazing voice.
I think Diana should've chosen to sing "Dreams" and left Fantasia with this song. Diana did really great, but Fantasia nailed it way more. 'Love them both!
She should have won for sure.
This performance considering when it was, completely gave away the result.
@midniterider78 i think they both did very well. fantasia has an unusual voice that ppl were intrigued about.. i think that's why she had an advantage. but they both are incredible singers. and diana degarmo is signed as well.

It's a "whatever you make it as long as its meaningful" song. And the way Diana song it was even "pop" like.
Will RUclips not allow users to post Diana Degarmo's first performance of this song?
FANTASIA OWNED THIS SONG SHES OK BUT FANTASIA PUT EMOTION AND SOUL INTO IT
YES!I ABSOLUTELY AGREE WITH YOU!

I Loved Fantasia's version of the song is more soul into it Diana has a Pop/Country voice
I don't care what anyone says baby girl cans sing.
@popups46okay um, by the time she was singing this the voting was already over. This was the finale results night.
