I still remember this being the first performance of the season in 2004 and thinking "holy crap!!!" because it was such an awesome performance. Seeing it again now, I feel the exact same way! It wasn't just her voice, it was how she performed the song... the way she moved, the attitude, the looks. This was my fav AI performance ever.
I will always stan Diana. This was the first live performance of season 3 and I've never forgot it. She was 16. 16! She performed like a pro. I'm so glad she's found Broadway success because she's amazing
She was usually pitchy but it was her young age. She had that broadway/musical theatre style and technique so she actually held up and had tenacity to pull of high notes even when out of breath
I think her finishing 2nd was correct, Fantasia during this show needed it more. Diana, all she needed to was mature in her age cause her voice is crazy amazing
This entire SERIES went downhill from this performance, IMO. I quit watching completely after about season 7 admittedly, but one of the few times when someone did a real pop song in the right way, with the voice to carry it.
falldownhard The whole show started to suck in general around that time, I never watch past season 7 either. I like the much earlier seasons. I love the chemistry between the original judges. The good ole days.
Go back and watch the finale...Diana screwed up 'Don't Cry Out Loud' when she hit the wrong note....BUT..the girl can sing her butt off...HOWEVER...Latoya and Jennifer were ROYALLY screwed...especially Jennifer...JENNIFER should have actually won...don't think so?? Who has had the best career out of Jennifer, Diana, Latoya or Fantasia since Idol?? Not even CLOSE...
kelly clarkson and chris daughtry had the best voices in american idol history imo followed closely by carrie, although im only familiar through the first 6 or so seasons, i dont believe anyone after that (im not an adam lambert fan) was anywhere near carrie or kelly or chris
