  • Apple just announced Final Cut Pro for the iPad. I've been an avid Final Cut Pro user for years, it's the editing program I live by so when they made this announcement I was excited.... at first. While it has some definite pros the cons weigh heavy on me. Not being able to hook up an external drive or transfer from iMac to iPad has me thinking "who is this program really good for?" But, the AI features and Apple Pencil integration seem amazing. Time will tell if this release will succeed.

    100% agree on integrating the desktop & ipad versions!

  • @sqeegie
    @sqeegie Год назад +2

    They need to have them sync properly or utilize it as a desktop remote. Fcp can properly benefit from a remote app too. They seem to want to separate. The lack of integration bothers me.

  • @DarrenM
    @DarrenM Год назад +2

    Nice I agree on the subscroption option, there is so much they can do with the desktop and use the iPad to sync and edit on the go. But file size could be an issue.

    I disagree with a subscription version, because apple makes their money selling their computers to use Final Cut Pro and Apple computers are more expensive than pcs. I’ve bought a couple macs the last 2 years to be able to keep getting the updates on fcpx. In order to continue to get the updates after a certain number of years, you have to get a new Mac. If they go to subscription for the desktop/laptop version, I might switch to a pc in the future, because my reason for getting a Mac will be gone and I will switch to Resolve. When people have asked what program I recommend for editing, I say FCPX, because I can edit fast with the magnetic timeline and you keep getting free updates. However, if they change to a subscription, Apple loses the free updates as a pro.

      Definitely hoping they don’t switch to subscription for desktop, but unfortunately I can see it happening

    I think the early release of the FCP iPad app is less about the app and more about preparing us for a FCP desktop subscription that is coming down the pike. This will lessen the shock coming in June… Then they will give us a bundle price that will make us feel that we are getting a deal...

    I’m excited to give it a shot. I edit on my iPhone using iMovie and Premiere Rush, so this could be a nice upgrade for me…and save money on buying an entire desktop setup for editing.

    Awesome video Ben! You did a phenomenal job with some news that I actually found to be a bit overwhelmed to hear all at once... I was already starting to consider getting an ipad for illustrations and animations for another channel that I work for, but I'm more artsy than techy and don't really know where to start because I've never even used an ipad either!
    Also had no idea final cut pro was coming out for ipad, and I already have the desktop (laptop) paid version of it. To add on with a subscription base instead of being able to dump something I've already paid for onto another device is honestly not appealing to me, or the commitment to pay continuously, especially if I take some time off from editing at any point.
    And all the new features you were talking about like AI this and AI that, I don't know, I'm feeling behind with all of that stuff too.
    Even operating cameras and lights, I honestly prefer editing other people's stuff than my own... I haven't been feeling the greatest with the whole content creation thing for a while now, and it seems to be getting worse as time and technology moves forward while I'm not... sorry for the rant, I really am
    LOVE your HAT though... I honestly don't mean to be distracted from your whole video simply from a hat, but the message that Jesus Loves Me seemed to be the thing I needed to hear THE MOST today after viewing this entire upload
    Feel free to let us know where we can get that HAT! 🙂

    I cant think of a situation where I'm working with 10 bit 4k, or pro res shot on an iPhone whereas i'd prefer and iPad (which would have the keyboard and pencil) over a M2 macbook pro max with heaps more muscle and ram. Its basically the same form factor. I don't get it. Cost wise, the iPad pro you'd need would be comparable to an M1 air. Again, not seeing the value proposition or the form ease of use. It would have to be far cheaper to get into this for it to be as a low barrier to entry as folks are saying. Davinci on iPad and desktop is free.,

    First of all- A great video with some awesome editing :). I have subscribed to the channel.
    Talking of my thoughts on FCP on iPad, I am in FOMO. I have iPad Pro 12.9 inch 2020 model, that means I won't be able to use FCP on my iPad.
    I am a tech content creator myself and use FCP for my editing.
    FOMO:
    1. Apple pencil support
    2. Auto-crop feature
    3. Scene removal mask
    Will these come to Mac version? I am not sure?

    This is such a great overview! I don’t like the subscription because I’ve already paid for the desktop version. I definitely hope they bring new features to the desktop version. We definitely need AI generated captions at the very least. Lastly, where can I pick up that cap? It is 🔥🔥🔥

    They KILLED It before it was released. From Apple: "Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro for iPad will each be available on the App Store for $4.99 (US) per month or $49 (US) per year with a one-month free trial". $50 a year! No Way!!!! I just canceled my Adobe subscription because I was tired of paying over $60 a month for software I only used for one client who I have not worked for for a long time. All the others, I use FCP or Resolve Studio. Both of which I have paid $300, ONCE. I will stick for travel FCP to using my trusty MacBook Air M1 which I already own. Even though I have a iPad Pro M2, I can always use Resolve on it as it was a free download. Hope it stays that way.
    BTW, I just edited 46 video from NAB in FCP on my Mac. Nothing is faster.

    Hate this option as someone who doesn't make money from Final Cut Pro but loves it as a prosumer gateway in to the Apple ecosystem. I really think it's a bad move on their part and it's a betrayal of what we expect from their native software that we pay big bucks to get into with the hardware.

      @@benjohnsoncreative agreed. Not a huge number of actual pros even use the software that much and need a desktop. Maybe young people who edit for social that grew up with subscriptions, but how big is that market compared to hobbyists, enthusiasts, and prosumers who I don’t think want to rent something every month

    The whining about the subscription model is hilarious. If you don’t want to pay the $ don’t use it. Pretty simple. (After Ben replying, I should have been more descriptive and said that I was referring to some of the comments regarding the subscription model, not Ben. I thought he explained himself quite well. Some people went a little over the top imho, but to each their own.)
