David your correct, what i had meant to say was that before this match and based on what happened over the last couple of years that it was there time. All Blacks were magnificent on the day and no-one could question that it was them that deserved the win.
What Ireland has experienced in this WC campaign is what the ABs experienced for the best part of 24 years. From 1987 until 2011, they were the best team/Top 3 in between WCs and would always fall short. If I had a dollar for every time I heard the comment "NZ are the greatest team in between World Cups" lol. It's not a matter of "if" Ireland will ever win a WC, its a matter of "when". People forget McCaw and DC failed at x2 WCs before winning their first. 🇳🇿

Barnes wasn't at the 95 WC .He was 16 that year. Barnes was very inexperience in 2007 when he officiated the quarter final NZ vs France and he had a shocker. Look in up.
Regarding scrum interpretation, the ref will judge which team has momentum, and momentum is a massive factor in rugby or sport in general, so being a ref in the middle of the heat you need allow the him to use his discretion and interpret what he sees. The rules in rugby puts a big onus on the refs judging which team has the upperhand in certain areas of the game within the laws
NZ grew out of the pains of being number 1 at every world cup except this 1 and not winning and we always thought we would win, so being number 1 and winning everything in between world cups doesn't win you a cup no matter how deserving you think you are. The legacy of both these countries is why we share 6 world cups about to be 7 between us, the All Blacks will be hard to beat at our best the springbok only win world cups every 12 years lol will be a classic. Ireland will come back strong looking forward to seeing the lessons learnt at the next 6 nations.

Sport does not always go that way, is it always just about the result? I presume that teams can sometimes dominate some games in terms of territory, possession etc yet still lose. If England had of won would they have deserved it?

The game was always going to turn with the SA bench being so influential. The two points scorers, Pollard & Snyman came off the bench, the scrum penalty that gave SA the match winning penalty was down to Ox Nche & Vincent Koch, bench players. England simply did not make enough of their dominance over that first 60 minutes in terns of scoring points & when they went behind and were forced to play rugby, they were time & again caught behind the gain line and eventually conceded the penalty. It was a decent gameplan from England, apart from not having an answer to the Springboks bench.

That was NZ's Achilles heel. Some illegal play doesn't get picked up by the ref and then NZ benefits. In the final NZ sacrificed 10m in the bin to get Bongo off the field.

When you put your feet on the pitch no prior wins or history counts especially in a knockout game.

No side has ever won the WC whilst winning everything else in between. The 87 all blacks weren't the favorites pre world cup. The 2011 All Blacks lost the RC and lost 3 in a row to SA in 2010. The 2015 All Blacks lost the RC and had a record score loss against Aussie. 95 SA were pumped by everyone pre world cup etc etc. If you are winning constantly, you don't find out what your weaknesses are, and how to counter act them. But you give everyone else a chance to do so.

Couple of things to consider Bruce, a lot of players heading off, plenty to retire in the next few years, well positioned in the front row just worry about big second rows, back-rows (No 6) Also Under 20's have struggled the last couple of years which was not always the way. How many of this All Black team will still be around in 4 years I wonder?
@@brentpope100 players retire after every WC it's nothing new. I see very capable young players in the NPC with big futures. Scott Robertson is no slouch either in building a champion team with the resources he has and has proven that over and over.
