Hey NiGiff- You ain’t jokin’ about John Hawkes. Such a talented supporting actor and is a true chameleon. Honestly, he’s much more talented that Clooney or Wahldouche. The Same can be said for William Fichtner
Michael was so happy to have someone finally call his name and send him off. Irene was guarded and you could sense she was hurt before, but it was an absolutely subtle compliment about how much a catch Bugsy was. They made a great couple, shame it never got the chance to bud into a true romance. The short life of their crushes made them all the more special.
Michael and Irene were my favorite couple but I read that she never existed and was written for the movie. Oh well. So sad when she came to tell him goodbye knowing they would never see each other again. Rusty Schwimmer has been a supporting actress in so many movies.
To be fair though, The whole events in the movie after they set sail sort of never existed. Apart from being based on a true story about these men going missing, nobody really knows what happened while they were on board... it was all made up, as they all died in real life and the ship was never recovered.
@@MillersRetroArtNot true. There were ships that survived the perfect storm. The scene where Andrea Gail briefly capsizes and comes back is based on what happened to a ship that was in perfect storm but lived to tell the tale.
@capsortee Yes I do. A cold front, hurricane and noreaster collided and created one of, if not, the biggest storms in recorded history. Thus causing immense damage, flooding and some deaths on shore and the sinking of the F/V Andrea Gail and killing 5 crew and their skipper. I wish I could freeze that scene and erase the impending doom that was coming after that scene where they went out on another trip to the Grand Banks and to Sable Island and the Flemish Cap. I was 21 years old when this happened back in 1991. I was on my dad's trawler off the coast of San Diego CA at sea. I know quite a bit about.the.entire story, the crew of the F/V Andrea Gail and the storm. That bar scene always chokes me up a little, makes me laugh and how fun it would be to party with all those guy there.
I really loved these scenes with John Hawkes and the actress (apologies for not remembering her name). I looked up John Hawkes, never having heard of him before this movie, because he was brilliant in these small scene. I thought: "This guy is very good and natural". Well, to my amazement, Hawkes has a long body of notable works. I guess I have new content to watch. But back to these scenes: They were touching scenes between the two. The best scenes in the movie in my humble opinion.
What does Bugsy say to the woman at the bar before he takes a drink and she starts laughing hysterically? Here's to crime? Grime?? Could never figure it out!
Not always about looks... if you're in the relationship for looks over personality, then you're an idiot. Love is about how you two connect emotionally and mentally..... if that's not there, then what do you have? Relationships only work if the people in said relationship have a connection and can bring 100% to the relationship
So if you were just at sea for a month with this crew and are going back out again in two days for another month, and you have and will again be around them 24/7 the whole time, why in Gods name would you want to spend what little free time you do have hanging out at a bar with them?
Ah, the comic relief of the awful film… the two ugly people hooking up while the good looking people get it on. Because your average New England folk at a dive bar look like George Clooney, Diane Lane, and Marky Mark
This tiny arc made the movie so much more touching. It still hits me in the feels. Two great performances.
I love the depection of this kind of romance. Its not overbearing, just two people who really took an interest and could have made a life together.
But did this really happen? Great scene though
So true.
@@m.e.d.7997 No. Irene was made up but it was a good scene between the two of them anyway.
@@twilightblue8566 Their scenes were special and added a lot to the movie

I agree!
I love how Bugsy holds onto Irene's hand for just a moment after they shake. Great little touch.
It's heartwarming that Irene was there to say goodbye to Michael I just wished that he got to kiss her
Dude has no game even for the fat chicks
No one ever said goodbye to me before. Fail
The wink was the onky part he got

Great performances in this scene. Truly. John Hawkes is very underrated.

John Hawkes is such an underrated actor. The pairing of Bugsy and Irene was a lovely (and sad) touch to this film.
"Michael!" And he smiled ❤️

Well said buddy
Great Tom Waits song in the background: "Looking for the Heart of Saturday Night".
The hardest thing about this scene is knowing when they said "goodbye" it really was goodbye, literally.
