  • Prince Aegon's coronation in the Dragonpit did not go quite as planned.
Princess Rhaenys, the great aunt of Aegon II, had been imprisoned in the Red Keep pending her answer to Queen Alicent's question as to whether or not she would support the coronation of Aegon.
In this scene we receive her answer.

My one and only gripe with this absolutely jawdropping scene is that Meleys killed hundreds, maybe thousands of innocent people, along with wounding and trapping many others - but the cinematography chooses not to show this, using smoke, dust, and rubble to conceal the full scope of the tragedy.
Not that we needed to see even more death and gore than we have already, but because it heavily contributes to the poignancy of Meleys' flight as the start of the Dance of the Dragons.
Meleys foreshadows the calamity of death and destruction about to befall the Seven Kingdoms and King's Landing especially, and some reflection on the horror unleashed on the smallfolk by Meleys, unintentionally and (seemingly) irrelevant to the ruling elite, would have been appropriate.
