    If you need more than 20 tabs and 4 apps open at the same time definitely get the 16GB. If not, go with the 8GB and save a few bucks. Apple M1 processor is worth it either way compared to any Windows at the same price, for now.

    I used 8GB version for a couple of weeks and had the spinning beach ball fairly often. 16GB, only once when an app got out of control and used like 86GB of memory. I recommend people get the 16GB if they work on multiple apps (3-4+) at the same time.

    I went with 8GB. It's enough for personal computing, learning, and exploring stuff, and 16GB is too little for my professional needs. I guess that's a way for Apple to differentiate their consumer line from their professional line without compromising quality.

    • @JhanOjan

    *shrug* I just ordered the 8GB version... they had a sale here where it was like $170 cheaper than it's normal price... the 16GB one wasn't on sale, and is normally $200 more, so now it would have been $360 for 8GB... simply too expensive for that little extra memory... it will live as long as it lives... so far so good

The only reason is basically if you rendering actually and want to multitask that's where ram upgrade comes alive

  • @Ross6041

    8GB is okay , as long as you restart daily. There is an issue with the M1, where it uses around 2GB extra RAM, I hear that is down to the unified memory, getting used by the GPU? That said, the higher CPU speed means that you dont notice memory compression.

    • @ZaffsProductions
      @ZaffsProductions  3 года назад +1

      It would make sense for the GPU to use some RAM. I always shut mine down every time I use it.

    • @Tommy-yq6vr
      @Tommy-yq6vr 3 года назад +1

      This is the same issue with AMD 8 gb laptops with the vega GPUs. The GPU's use 2 gb off ram off the bat. So your 8 gb is really 6 gb.

    I have the 8gb version. The only time I notice a slight problem is when I leave Zoom on for days. It begins to lag whenever I join a session and also when my students activate or deactivate their cameras/microphones for some reason. So I restart every 2-3 days. Other than that, I haven't been able to tell if there is something I should be doing with the swap memory.

    • @ZaffsProductions

      Zoom seems to do that with any device it runs on unfortunately. Maybe they might optimise it in the future.

    Will the SSD ware out faster if memory swapping is frequently used?

    • @ZaffsProductions
      @ZaffsProductions  3 года назад

      It’s meant to wear out faster. To be honest, instead of lasting 12 years, maybe it’ll last 10 years instead? Honestly I don’t believe the difference is that much. I suspect most of us would have a new device by then.
