My parents just bought a beautiful 1915 Craftsman home near me that they plan to retire in! I have six(ish) months to get it fixed up for them before they move in, and there are lots of rooms and different projects to focus on. But the main theme of this renovation? STORAGE! It looks like I have lots of DIY built-ins in my future... and I'm not mad about it!

It's going to be stunning. So excited to see it. Ladders and elders don't mix. Dust can be cleaned, lay down paper and lift and change annually.
I'm old and I still climb ladders. I'm probably older than her parents are
@MsChris696969 so can my parents in their late 70s but it's nor safe. I wouldn't want to be doing it myself in my 40s.
“Plenty of time” Famous last words, lol!
Be aware the plaster could maybe have asbestos. It might not because asbestos is usually 1920-1970s. But I would DEFINITELY get it tested.
Medicine chests and nooks are what I have in my house. They don't project out into narrow bathrooms.
Native Texan here, living in California for the last 27 years. I concur, it gets really "hot and awful" by...well, usually right now. lol
It is a terrible time to purchase real estate in Texas (for about the last year, except for maybe San Antonio), so I hope your parents got a good deal on this home.
I'm from Dallas, originally, so I didn't even know there were gorgeous Craftsman homes in Texas. I never saw one until I moved to Northern California 19 years ago from LA.
Those floors look so much like my 1890 house!
🤘😊 ... and so It begins.
I know it's a very personal thing but I'd love to know the price paid before all the work needed. You are literally, amazing doing all the work yourself - how you even do plastering and other jobs that require a master usually is awe inspiring - I'd love to know if you have taken classes in any areas of home renovation. Cannot wait to see what comes next. Oh, meant to say, I adore the style of the homes.
If that first bedroom didnt need to be s bedroom I think it could be gorgeously repurposed as a library/office area.
Well done, thank you! I am excited for y'all, can't wait to see the nitty-gritty!
First off, I love your ideas and vision.
Second - for the bedroom the built-ins would be amazing, but I don't know about having the bed right next to the bathroom door. I watch a lot of Dear Modern's feng shui videos and the alarm bells are going off for me there. Is there another bed placement that might be better in that space? It might be worth thinking about before building all the structures. In the end, I'm sure what you build will be an improvement on the current space. I would love to see a collab between you and Dear Modern though!
Ooo interesting! I'll have to look into that. I just hate the idea of the bed plopped right in front of the big windows, especially with hot summer sunshine...
@@ReneeRenovatesFair point! Maybe switching the hinges so the door opens the other way would be enough, so you don't look straight into the bathroom from the bed.
The bathroom looks really nice at least haha 😂
It’s a lot to do with the position of the toilet and wether the bed crosses the door. Watching the recommended channel is a good idea. It makes sense and his designs feel clever and light.
How about a carpet in the tiled bedroom? :)
So excited for this! I find it incredible that they left all those TVs? That's a lot of money that they could have taken with them or sold? And clearly your parents didn't negotiate to leave them lol
Haha I know! My parents even contacted the realtors to make sure it wasn't a mistake... they left some other nice things for them, too, like a patio heater! 🤷♀
Just found your page! So excited to watch what you do with this gorgeous space!
WOW, how exciting, I've been locked out of Instagram (can't remember password🤣) so I'm missing out on some things, anyway guess I'll catch up here😀
Ah, so I'm not the only one that got locked out of Instagram, lol. I did not forget my password, but after being logged off for 6 months (needed a break!!!), it no longer acknowledged my password. The ONLY thing I regret not having Instagram for is watching Renee! So I hope to see her more on RUclips.❤
Is there a half bath for guests of the third bedroom? Are you considering a cabinet shed for storage?
You havent finished the house already 😡🤦🏾♀️🤣!!?!?? girl, I’m EXCITED!!!! Hurrup!!!!lol
Re the kitchen & pantry. How about knocking out the wall between the pantry & kitchen so the light from the windows comes through. The side of the room in the pantry can be a walk in pantry or closed off - depending on size. You can have an island with drawers for storage and easy access. Also in the bedroom with the wRsrove that has full depth for closet and slimmer area. You could create adjustable shelves either on their own or enclosed within a cupboard and those shelves could be for shoes, accessories, and other slimmer things. If the shelves are enclosed, less dust and less things to clean.
We considered it, but my mom really likes the idea of having a separate walk-in pantry. Also since the pantry is likely an added-on porch, the wall between the kitchen and pantry is probably structural. That can be addressed with beams, etc, but it's a hassle!
The floors just need a sanding and refinish, those are original. They look just like the ones in my craftsman
Sadly they aren't original, but whoever added them did a great job finding ones that look the part!
How do you find out if there's lead in paint on that ship lap?
Beautiful house. Where is this?
While watching “Restored”, I’ve seen some of those dining room built-ins have a pass-through door from the kitchen. Do you know if theirs has one?
I don't believe so! But if their house was set up like mine (very likely) they probably had a swinging door between the kitchen and dining room at one point.
Where is this located? State?
Are there only bathrooms with bedrooms?
Yes but one also has a door opening to a hallway for general use!
Have you found any roaches yet?😵💫
Thankfully no!
